On 1 March 1981, the Fourth Doctor regenerated. He had thwarted the plans of the Tremas Master to use CVEs to control the universe. (TV: Logopolis) Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan helped the newly-regenerated Fifth Doctor escape awkward questions by the police. (TV: Castrovalva)
Amongst the other notable things that occurred on this day were:
- 1562 - Twenty-five Huguenots were killed in Wassy, France. The resulting French religious wars culminated in the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre. (TV:' 'The Massacre, PROSE: The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve)
- 1941 - The Seventh Doctor noted that changes were happening to the timeline of Nazi Germany. He, Benny, Chris and Roz Forrester attempted to set history on its correct course. (PROSE: Just War)

- 1986 - BBC1 Controller Bill Cotton announced that Doctor Who would return from its temporary hiatus in autumn of that year. He also broke the news that the show would return to its 25-minute format. However, he misled fans by implying that the reason for the change of format was to increase the length of the broadcast season — something that did not at all prove to be true of season 23.
