John Fitzgerald Kennedy, also known as "JFK", was President of the United States from 1961 until 1963. Kennedy was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. (PROSE: Heart of TARDIS)
Assassination
- Main article: Kennedy assassination
Kennedy's presidency ended on 22 November 1963 when he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The Ninth Doctor was standing in the crowd minutes before the assassination, mere feet away from him. (TV: Silver Nemesis, TV: Rose; PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy)
One of Kennedy's last official acts before his assassination was to order Moonbase Eisenhower to shoot down the US Rocket Lincoln, which had been stolen by the Sixth Doctor and Larisa Petrov. Although Kennedy did not rescind the order before his death, the moonbase's commanding officer countermanded them when Petrov contacted him and proved that she was an American spy working in the Soviet Union.
The Sixth Doctor's companion Peri Brown once commented that everyone remembered where they were when Kennedy was assassinated. (AUDIO: 1963: The Space Race)
Wax replica
In 1970, the Third Doctor and Liz Shaw visited Madame Tussauds' hall of world leaders in the course of their investigation into the Autons. Among the figures representing American Presidents was one of Kennedy. He stood in front of George Washington and next to the then-current President, Richard Nixon. Others on that dais included Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, and [although never president] Benjamin Franklin. Additional American figures were to the left. (TV: Spearhead from Space)
Alternate realities
In an alternate timeline caused by the Valeyard's use of the Dark Matrix, Kennedy was killed by zombies some time prior to 1963. (PROSE: Matrix)
In another alternate timeline, River Song used hallucinogenic lipstick on President Kennedy to help build Area 52. (TV: The Wedding of River Song)
Behind the scenes
- The Autons were the adversaries in both of the television stories in which President Kennedy's likeness was shown – either in a photograph or as a wax figure. (TV: Rose, Spearhead from Space)
- Low television viewership on Saturday 23 November 1963, resulting partially from Kennedy's death the day before, prompted the BBC to re-air Doctor Who’s very first episode, "An Unearthly Child", the following week on 30 November 1963.
