The Avengers were a superhero team in Earth-616.

In Earth-616, upon encountering Death's Head, Wiccan recalled having heard of him in Avengers files, having the knowledge that Death's Head had been upgraded multiple times. After Death's Head was locked in the bathroom of their apartment, Hulkling told Wiccan that he wished he was less against requesting help, such as that of the "real Avengers". Wiccan noted that they weren't, "even when [they] were", sarcastically thanking him for the reminder. Hulkling stated that he only called them the "real Avengers" because Wiccan did. One of them noted that they weren't the youngest people to have been Avengers anymore.

Of course, this did not come to pass, though Marvel UK's stewardship of the production of original Doctor Who comics still saw the Doctor encounter several Marvel characters, including some who were elsewhere shown to be members of the Avengers; among them were the Hulk, Iron Man and Thor.
