Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

While the short story Rose Tyler was the first story to give a explicit location for the Powell Estate, scenes in the television episode Aliens of London evidently depicted the Powell Estate being located in Kennington, specifically in a 1:1 location to its real world filming location, the Brandon Estate, located in Kennington.[1] Kennington is situated along the border of London Borough of Lambeth and the London Borough of Southwark, and the estate's location in the London Borough of Southwark was also evident from TV: Father's Day.

Thus, choosing a location that both aligns with the real world and the DWU logically makes sense. However, it was later established in comic strip Silver Scream that the Powell Estate was located in Peckham, which has been seemingly accepted by every story that came out after it, which creates irreconcilable discrepancies with stories such as Aliens of London, where various shots would be impossible if the Powell Estate was located in Peckham.

Furthermore, the BBC's webpage on Doctor Who from 2005 states that Rose is from SE15, which is Peckham's postcode, whereas the postcode for Kennington is primarily SE11.[2] Additionally, the short story Meet Rose and the television episode Army of Ghosts give "SE15 7GO" as her postcode.

Though it's possible that a real world location doesn't exist in the same geographic space in the Doctor Who universe, such cases are few and far between. Thus, the map to the right is probably a good indicator of the DWU location of Kennington.
