Ellen Hunt MA was a civil servant who was involved with the first trade between the British government and the 456 in 1965.

Hunt was educated at Girton College, Cambridge, graduating with the highest first in her year in Classics. After her graduation in 1958, Hunt joined the Civil Service to work as a secretary.
In 1965, Hunt was involved in a deal with the alien race known as the 456, on behalf of the British government. Through secret radio communications, Hunt, along with Jack Harkness, Michael Sanders, and Andrew Staines, agreed to deliver to the 456 twelve young orphans as a "gift" at a meeting point in Scotland.
