Morbius the Mighty comprised the first story in The War Doctor Rises, produced by Big Finish Productions. It was written by Tim Foley and featured Jonathon Carley as the War Doctor and Samuel West as Morbius.

Synopsis[[edit] | [edit source]]

The War Doctor has been forced out of the fight and the battle has moved on in his absence. There are new powers, new anomalies, and new excuses from him to keep his distance. With only Cora, his nurse, to keep him company on the forest planet of Lull, the War Doctor is content to leave his old life behind.

But something is stirring in the depths of a twisted planet. An old, embittered foe harbours a terrible grudge against the Doctor. And when a chance encounter gives this enemy the chance to escape, nobody is safe in his quest for vengeance.

From the depths of the stormy Valley, Morbius will rise...

Cast[[edit] | [edit source]]

Crew[[edit] | [edit source]]

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • The Valley is a tear in time leading to the time before the Time War. Its creation rendered the natives of that world non-corporal, becoming the Forgone.
  • Morbius destroys New Marinus, home of the Voord. 1-8-1 claims the Time Lords had been monitoring them for months for dealing with the Daleks.
  • The Third Power are a third faction in the war, led by Time Lords converted into Robomen and later freed from the Daleks by the War Doctor.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Assault Leader Dalek closer look.
This story was recorded on 11-13 December 2023 and 8 February 2024 at the Soundhouse.
  • The Dalek renders were provided by James Johnson[1].
    • As with previous renders, Johnson provided a closer look at the Daleks featured on the cover. As noted in the writeup, in terms of hierarchy, this Dalek rank sits below the Supreme Council, but is still able to command its own forces. The neck rings function as an enhanced transmitter-receiver, with a larger central slat to increase the integrity of this unit's force field. Johnson also indicated the design for this particular Dalek is partially inspired by the Character Options 5" Dalek Battle Pack set from 2005, which features a similarly coloured black and gold Dalek versus the regular bronze design[2].
    • This Dalek additionally shares some design traits with the Dalek Supreme as seen in the television story Planet of the Daleks, with the black and gold colour scheme and unique neck rings design.
