Patricia "Patsy" Haggard was the liason with the Ministry for the Preternatural Research Bureau (P.R.O.B.E.). A close friend of the Bureau's head, Liz Shaw, she undertook to get PROBE the resources it needed in the face of a sceptical government ministry. As the frequent bearer of bad news for Liz (such as when Rutherford removed the only other member of PROBE staff, Lou Bayliss, while Liz was grieving the death of her father), Patsy was occasionally required to be tough with Liz. Even so, she always made up with her before too long. They were far more like friends than work colleagues. Patsy sometimes visited Liz's house for drinks. There may even be a suggestion that they were more than just friends. Patsy had an earlier role in police surveillance, and while she had no part in PROBE's investigations, she occasionally took part in police proceedings - such as when she questioned Gavin Purcell. She dealt with at least two ministers - the sympathetic 'Sir Richard' and the cynical Brian Rutherford - before she herself became their successor.

Patricia "Patsy" Haggard was an official with the Ministry of Defence with close ties to the Preternatural Research Bureau.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early career[[edit] | [edit source]]

In the 1970s, Patsy was a WPC under Sergeant Robert Lines in Smallmarshes. She brought the Third Doctor and Sergeant Lines some tea whilst they were talking. (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice) She once worked in surveillance. (HOMEVID: The Devil of Winterborne)

Patsy embarked on a career at the Ministry of Defence and frequently acted as a liaison between the ministry and P.R.o.B.e., a job through which she met and became friendly with Dr Liz Shaw. It took her some time to convince Sir Richard Stevenson of the merits of P.R.o.B.e.'s continued existence, but he eventually came around and became most helpful. (HOMEVID: The Devil of Winterborne)

Assisting P.R.o.B.e.[[edit] | [edit source]]

In August 1994, Patsy visited P.R.o.B.e.'s office at Ashley House to inform Liz and Louise Bayliss of the difficulty she had in keeping the murders around Hawthorne from being investigated by Scotland Yard, but she was convinced by them to continue doing so to avoid P.R.o.B.e.'s total loss of funding. After Colin Dove's arrest, Patsy had him detained at Hawthorne per Liz's request. (HOMEVID: The Zero Imperative)

Patsy's work meant that she had little opportunity to comfort Liz after her father's death. After Sir Richard was replaced with Brian Rutherford, P.R.o.B.e. was again in danger but Rutherford required Patsy's agreement in order to close them, which she refused to do. She involved herself in Liz's and D.I. Burke's investigation at Winterborne School following the arrest of Gavin Purcell, helping interrogate him. She gave Rutherford a report on the investigation once the true criminal, Christian Purcell, was identified. (HOMEVID: The Devil of Winterborne)

Rutherford put Patsy in charge of solving and keeping quiet a number of murders. She had P.R.o.B.e. and Colonel Ackroyd and his men investigate. She was frustrated by Rutherford's unwillingness to grant P.R.o.B.e. full access to Julius Quilter and at his refusal to accept the evidence that Quilter was involved. Once his connection to BEAGLE was revealed, Patsy informed Liz and Ackroyd that he had been forced to resign. (HOMEVID: Unnatural Selection)

Patsy replaced Rutherford as minister and continued to assist Liz. She told her about how Christian Purcell's body had been found and later discussed Isaac Greatorex and his grimoire at Liz's house. She was angry at Gavin Purcell's successful appeal and stuck her neck out to have him transferred to Liz's custody. (HOMEVID: Ghosts of Winterborne)

By 2000, Patricia had entered a romantic relationship (PROSE: The Last Dose) with Liz and lived with her. (HOMEVID: When to Die) The two eventually got married. (HOMEVID: Goo!)

In 2000, Patricia made a call to Sir Andrew Williams who have the help of Louise Bayliss, (PROSE: The Last Dose) who had been transferred by Brian Rutherford (HOMEVID: The Devil of Winterborne, PROSE: The Last Dose) five years prior to work for Sir Andrew at the Home Office. Sir Andrew agreed, and when Louise travelled to Ashley House, Patricia told that she needed to go to the PKD facility in London to oversee the containment of Cyberon; she explained to Louise that she couldn't accompany her as she was busy transferring LONGBOW files from Edinburgh, and that her "other half" was also busy. After Louise returned, she asked Patricia if she could return to P.R.O.B.E., but Patricia politely told her no, due to budget constraints and Sir Andrew predictable objection. (PROSE: The Last Dose)

Patricia and the other two members of P.R.O.B.E. attended Tom Mordley's funeral, where they introduced themselves to Sarah and Brittany Mordley.

In 2008, P.R.O.B.E. detected an activation of Cyberon in Philadelphia, and Patricia quickly flew over. She traced the Cyberon to Brittany Mordley, Tom's niece, who had taken the drug after an incident with a bully. Patricia managed to talk Brittany out of commiting suicide so she could get a hold over the Cyberon in her system.

In 2009, Patricia visited Brittany in Philadelphia with her partner and Giles to check up on her progress since she was infected with Cyberon the year before. (PROSE: Silver-Tongued Liars)

In March 2011, Patsy sent Giles and Archie to investigate a duo of deaths in the Vault. (PROSE: A Worthy Successor)

Leaving the UK[[edit] | [edit source]]

By 2014, Patsy had been promoted and worked closely with the Defence Secretary Brian Williams. She decided that P.R.o.B.e. should be the ones to execute Paul Reynish. After the mission's conclusion, she decided to resign from the ministry and move to Spain. She asked Liz to go with her, to which she smiled. (HOMEVID: When to Die) The two eventually got married (HOMEVID: Goo!) and planned to retire to Spain. (PROSE: A Worthy Successor)
