References

  • General Sanchez is heard saying "Ladies and gentlemen, we are at war." This was last said by Captain Jack Harkness in The Parting Of The Ways.
  • Russell T Davies's pattern of using the same surnames is the most notable in this episode with Martha Jones, Francine Jones, Harriet Jones and Ianto Jones, Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith and Mickey Smith. Only Francine and Martha are related (mother and daughter) and Luke Smith is not his actual name, only his adopted name given to him by Sarah Jane.

Story notes

This episode was the last of Series 4 to have its title revealed.

  • This is the third time that the Daleks have returned with a leader in a finale. In the 2005 finale, The Parting of the Ways, the Daleks were led by the Dalek Emperor and in 2006 finale, Doomsday, Dalek Sec led the Cult of Skaro. The Other Dalek two parter in 2007 Series was shown as the 4th & 5th Episodes of the Series (Daleks in Manhattan and Evolution of the Daleks). The Daleks were the Cult of Skaro.
  • Davros refers to Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Rose Tyler, and possibly the minor companions as The Children Of Time.
  • Sarah Jane Smith has already had past experience in dealing and/or fighting against Davros with The Doctor, albeit in his fourth incarnation. However Sarah Jane could be the one with the knowledge about how to destroy Davros and the circumstances on which he came to Earth. She may prove vital in the battle to come.
  • In the preview shown, Upon hearing the Dalek Message, Jack and Sarah Jane both become very emotional, with Jack declaring that he can't do anything, and that they will die.
  • The One Show presented a clip featuring Wilfred Mott and Sylvia Noble being confronted by a Dalek on Earth. Wilfred is shown holding a paintball gun as the Dalek shouts,"Exterminate". Bernard Cribbins, after the clip stated that he was glad it ended where it did. This could mean that either Wilf or Sylvia gets killed.

Also the clip shows that the Daleks can dissolve substances that block their vision. They were able to dissolve the paint that Wilf used by his Paint ball gun that was covering their eye.

  • The official BBC website has a script extract which in which the Doctor says he can't get any readings, from the 'fearsome technology' so he and Donna go to the Shadow Proclamation for help.
  • The BBC website also identifies the red dalek as 'Supreme Dalek' and has a picture of a badly damaged dalek in surroundings similar to those seen in the episode 'Dalek'.

Rumours

  • The Children Of Time are the Doctor's companions, and Davros sends the Daleks to assassinate them and their families.
  • It is rumored Davros speedily created the new Dalek race by using a progenation machine similar to the one shown in The Doctor's Daughter or a cloning machine. Unlikely, as the progenation machine wouldn't have been able to create all the Dalek casings and spaceships.
  • As the Daleks invade UNIT, Martha Jones manages to escape using a teleport, which takes her to New York.
  • The Eighth-Ninth Doctor Regeneration is explained.
  • Planets disappearing has been a recurring theme in series 4 and now that the Earth has been 'stolen' it appears to be the next one.
  • The Judoon are the guards for the Shadow Proclamation.
  • Wilf wields a paintball gun.
  • Davros has been harvesting bees into a new army of Daleks.
  • The Daleks know the identity of a certain former Prime Minister.
  • A certain body part in a jar is bubbling.
  • A Dalek exterminates the Torchwood pterodactyl.
  • The fate of a character from 'Voyage Of The Damned' is revealed. Possibly Mr Copper.
  • Project Indigo holds the key to salvation.
  • The Doctor's daughter Jenny is trapped near a black hole, but K-9 is sent to rescue her.
  • A Dalek speaks to Mr. Smith.
  • The Time War was 'time locked', or so thought The Doctor.
  • According to Digital Spy, a female that we know very well will be exterminated in this episode. However, this extermination might not be permanent, due to the fact that we are unaware of any of the three major companions (Rose, Donna, Martha) being absent in Journey's End. However, Digital Spy never said the word 'companion', so it is possible that it is someone else that we know very well. (In 'Doctor Who Mag' Elizabeth Sladen says something about how Journey's End could be the last time she meets the Doctor...But this also buts conflict with the second series of SJA) Or it could be either Jackie Tyler, Harriet Jones or Francine Jones. (Harriet Jones is a possibility because she is a female, and every time she introduces herself to someone, that person says, "Yes, we know who you are." This could have been what Digital Spy implied when they stressed that we knew this female very well.) However, Digital Spy were also very careful in calling the character a woman, instead referring to her as "a female". This could be a reference to Myfanwy, the Torchwood pterodactyl.

It is likely to be Harriet Jones, as she was became a sort of enemy of the Doctor's but she still trusted him. It is unlikely that one of the companions would be killed off, so Harriet Jones is likely to be killed.

  • Earth has been moved to another location (Hence the title Stolen Earth)It is worth noting that in the exclusive clip released before the airing of the episode, when Mr. Smith relays the Dalek Warcry to Sarah, several other celestial bodies are visible in close proximity to the earth, almost confirming that earth has been moved to another location, or at least, that other planets have been moved to earth's location.
  • A total of 27 planets have been stolen.
  • Davros is taking over planets to use them as cloning planets like the Sontaran's cloning planets.
  • This will show every companions point of view but they will not meet up until a member of the Shadow Proclamation (guarded by the Judoon) summons the Doctor and the companions near the end or the Shadow Proclamation member tell the Doctor to build an army.
  • Some people have said that the Doctor will get trapped in the Medusa Cascade. This fits with RTD's claim that the Medusa Cascade will come back to haunt us.
  • Adam Mitchell is some how "linked" to the or a "new" Davros.

What happened to Adam is, as yet, unknown and he gave into temptation last time. Besides, he existed in the year 2012. It's currently 2009.

  • There are rampant rumours of the Doctor being shot by a Dalek, pulled into the TARDIS by Donna, Rose, and Jack where there is a "botched" or "unusual" regeneration. This may have something to do with the Doctor's severed hand; as it's a piece of his 10th incarnation and may "anchor" him to a point in space-time, thus causing his essence to split into two instead of regenerating normally. Alternatively, the hand may simply act as a 1-up and curb the need to regenerate by using up all its energy; leaving the phantom blue-suited Doctor to be simply the production crew not having a firm decision on what costume David Tennant will wear in the concluding scenes, as the Doctor has been known to change clothing during episodes (Rise of the Cybermen, Smith and Jones, The Lazarus Experiment, Last of the Time Lords, Voyage of the Damned.) Pictures of the mysterious blue-suited Doctor can be seen on PlanetGallifrey's blog. [1][2]
  • The "stolen" planets move towards earth. This is confirmed by the exclusive clip of The Stolen Earth as many planets can be seen very close to Earth on Mr Smith in the background.
  • There will be a “tongue in cheek” reference about Gwyneth to Gwen, similar to how Martha's resemblance to Adeola is mentioned in Smith and Jones. Finally. There may also be a reference to Toshiko Sato's part in Aliens of London,as the Doctor could see an image of her in the Torchwood hub.
  • There is a parallel version of the Cult of Skaro called the Cult of Genesis where Dalek Caan is red.
  • All the missing planets mentioned in previous episodes, including the Adiposian breeding planet, Pyrovillia and the lost moon of Poosh may appear.
  • Jenny, the Doctor's Daughter, lands on Earth and is reunited with the Doctor.
  • General Sanchez is exterminated.
  • Jenny is exterminated.
  • The Doctor sees Rose and runs towards her, only to cross paths with a Dalek and get shot down. Rose then runs to his side. It's unknown whether he is really dead or just unconscious. Since the Doctor has never been shot by a Dalek before, it remains to be seen whether a Dalek's death ray affects Time Lords to the same degree.
  • In the trailer for the episode, a brief clip was seen showing Dalek spaceships doing battle with Shadow Proclamation ships similar to the one seen in Partners in Crime.
  • Freema Agyeman and Elisabeth Sladen were on The Richard Arnold Show. Elisabeth Sladen hinted that Sarah Jane does NOT die.
  • Davros has had Caan chained up and tortured. Confirmed as RTD has said you will see Dalek Caan as you've never seen him before and a Dalek was heard laughing in the next time trailer which was most likely Caan.
  • On Blue Peter, the show's presenter Gethin Jones agreed to do a scene for Journey's End, in which he got inside a Dalek prop, in a scene where the Daleks were transporting human prisoners, including Mickey, Jackie, and Sarah Jane, to the Crucible.
  • Before Series 4 had even started broadcasting, a clip was seen showing two Daleks filming Doctor Who in Cardiff.
  • Maybe we will learn that the Daleks used the cruciform and/or some other Time-Lord technology to hide Gallifrey into the Void from the Doctor at the exact moment he blows up the system during the Time War. Then, with the Universe cracked, they started to suck up planets to build ships. They also took the bees (and maybe other beings on different planets) in order to clone Daleks.
  • RTD stated that something from every episode will be referred to or used or make sense in the finale.

This could be: Partners In Crime: Rose Fires Of Pompeii: References to "She is returning" and "There is something on your back" Planet of the Ood: I think your song must end soon" Sontaran Strategem/Poison Sky: Rose seen on screen Doctor's Daughter: Progenation machines, Jenny Unicorn and the Wasp: The Bees are disappearing (also mentioned in other episodes) Silence In The Library/Forest of the Dead: River Song, Picture of blond woman and wolf in background Midnight: Rose calling for the Doctor again, the speech: "He has been waiting in the Darkness for all this time, waiting for people with blood (Davros?)" Turn Left: Rose, Bad Wolf

  • Another rumour is that Gallifrey will be restored, as well as Skaro, at the end of this series.
