Emperor of the Daleks was the last minisode within the 1994 home video special release of More than 30 Years in the TARDIS. It featured Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling returning as Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield in a scene reminiscent of the climax of The Evil of the Daleks. It was not actually packaged inside the documentary but rather included at the very end of the VHS tape, after the credits rolled.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jamie and Victoria walk into the Dalek Emperor's Great Hall only to find the Emperor alive. Four Silver Daleks advance on them, causing them to helplessly lift up their hands in surrender as they realise the room is filled with even more Daleks on various levels, and the Doctor's TARDIS has been captured. The Daleks victoriously declare that they have returned.

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Some of the Daleks in the Great Hall are on hoverbouts, though at rest.

Story notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Although his presence in the story is implied by the presence of the TARDIS, the Doctor is not seen.
  • The story was positioned after an interview with the BBC Controller about the potentiality of a Doctor Who movie coproduced in America, thus giving an ironic double meaning to the Daleks' victorious cries about returning. In the original broadcast version, the post-credit scene was of a single, black-and-white Dalek declaring that the Daleks would return to the camera.
  • Barnaby Edwards would later become the lead Dalek Operator on the revived series of Doctor Who.
