The Curator's Egg was the first story in The Second Doctor: Volume Two.
Publisher's summary
Zoltan Clarkson (Eccentric Billionaire, Cybernetics Tycoon, Museum Curator) had a dream of a domestic dinosaur in every home. He bought the empty county of Dorset to work on this dream and develop cyborg dinosaur hybrids in a safe, contained environment. Now Clarkson lies insensate in the infirmary, his twin brother Andrew struggles to hold things together and dinosaurs walk the Earth. With the Doctor and Ben chasing monsters at sea, Polly has only a socially awkward scientist and the world's friendliest dog to help her prevent the rise of the ultimate predators...

- Polly Wright / Narrator - Anneke Wills
- Ben Jackson / Andrew Clarkson / Zoltan Clarkson - Elliot Chapman
- The Doctor - Frazer Hines
Characters
Worldbuilding
- The Dalek invasion was around 100 years ago. All life in Dorset was wiped out during the occupation.
- Durlston Castle had remained empty since the invasion, until the entire county was bought five years ago by Zoltan.
- Cybernetic Dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles which appear include a Brontosaurus, Liopleurodon, Utahraptor, Pterodactyl, Velociraptor, Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus and T. rex.
- Scamp is a labrador.
- The Tilly Whim Tunnels were used by the resistance during the Dalek invasion.
Notes
- Unlike most tales in The Companion Chronicles, an actor is brought in specifically to voice for the Doctor. In this case, Frazer Hines lends his voice for the Second Doctor without reprising his role of Jamie to do so.
Continuity
- Polly asks the Doctor if they can take the cyborg Tyrannosaurus rex with them, but he claims it would not fit through the doors of the TARDIS. Despite this, the Eleventh Doctor would later travel with a robotic T. rex named Kevin. (COMIC: When Worlds Collide)
- There are several mentions of the 22nd century Dalek invasion. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)
- Plot points from TV: The Power of the Daleks are recalled by Polly and Ben.
- Polly mentions the Confederate of Brillpoor. (AUDIO: The Plague of Dreams)
