Despicable Me is an American animated film franchise by Illumination. The series centres around the exploits of Gru, a former supervillain, and his henchmen, the "Minions", a species of short, humanoid creatures with yellow skin. Having launched in 2010, the series presently consists of four films under the Despicable Me title, plus two prequel films under the Minions title, with the franchise's overwhelming success leading to an abundance of other media and merchandise.

Crossover[[edit] | [edit source]]

The franchise had a crossover with the Doctor Who universe via Mind My Minions, a webcast short released by BBC Radio 1 as part of a promotion for the first Minions film in 2015.

The webcast sees Radio 1 DJ, Greg James, tasked with escorting three Minions- Kevin, Stuart, and Bob- through the BBC studio to record a guest spot on The One Show, only for the trio to break away from James and run loose through the studio, invading various BBC show sets in the process. During the short, the Minions discover the Doctor's TARDIS and, with James along for the ride, hijack the ship and take it to various places, while also messing with the desktop theme.

All three Minions were voiced in the short by their voice actor from the film series, Pierre Coffin.

Connections[[edit] | [edit source]]

Andy Nyman, who contributed to the charity reference book, Behind the Sofa: Celebrity Memories of Doctor Who, voiced Clive in Despicable Me 3.
