The Angels Take Manhattan was the fifth episode of the seventh series of Doctor Who produced by BBC Wales. It featured the departure of Amy Pond and Rory Williams as Companions, and the return of River Song.

Synopsis

The Doctor's heart-breaking farewell to Amy and Rory - a race through - and against - time through the streets of Manhattan, as New York's statues come to life around them...

  • The year the Doctor visits in ancient China, 221 BC, is likely a reference to Sherlock Holmes' address 221B Baker Street[source needed]. Steven Moffat is also the writer of the television series Sherlock, depicting Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in a contemporary setting.
  • This is the first episode to feature River Song that is not a two-parter or is at least following a cameo appearance by River in the previous episode.
