Villengard supplied all sides in all conflicts for two centuries prior to 5087. (TV: Boom [+]Loading...["Boom (TV story)"]) In the 51st century, the Villengard Corporation produced a variety of weapons and wartime technologies, including for Jack Harkness (TV: The Doctor Dances [+]Loading...["The Doctor Dances (TV story)"]), River Song (AUDIO: An Unearthly Woman [+]Loading...["An Unearthly Woman (audio story)"]), and the Anglican Marines. Among the various products it sold in that century were sonic blasters, (TV: The Empty Child [+]Loading...["The Empty Child (TV story)"]) Villengard smartmines, and Villengard Automated Ambulance Units. In the last months of the Last Great Time War, the War Doctor enlisted the help of Dorium Maldovar to destroy the weapons factories of Villengard Corporation before the Dalek Fleet arrived to take control of them. (COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas [+]Loading...["The Whole Thing's Bananas (comic story)"]) The Ninth Doctor later recalled this incident to Jack Harkness. (TV: The Empty Child [+]Loading...["The Empty Child (TV story)"]) In later years the ruins of these factories would be overrun by Kaled mutants. Behind the scenes
- The return of Villengard in TV: Boom [+]Loading...["Boom (TV story)"] is one of many references in that story to past Steven Moffat scripts, as this was Moffat's first script since his showrunner era ended in December 2017.
- In this story, he elaborates significantly on concepts only mentioned in passing in past TV stories, expanding upon the more fleshed-out corporation we were introduced to in COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas [+]Loading...["The Whole Thing's Bananas (comic story)"].
- This story also introduced a significant change in pronunciation of the word "Villengard", as a result of Ncuti Gatwa's line reading as the Fifteenth Doctor. Originally, Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor stressed the first syllable (so it sounded like VILL-en-gard), whereas Gatwa now began stressing the second syllable (Vil-LÉN-gard). Later, Steven Moffat would comment, "I approve. We all liked it so much we elected to keep it."[1]
