Time Lord television stories category

Dear CzechOut, I'm leaving a message here rather than on the category talk page because that was suggested by the blurb on the talk page. The category in question is Category:Time Lord television stories.

I personally have a complete disconnect between the purpose of the category and its name. The description says that this is about the Time Lord society, not individual Time Lords. But the word "society" is absent from the category name while "Time Lord" is present. My understanding of this category (before reading the description) was that this is a category collecting TV stories involving Time Lords, which is more or less all of Doctor Who minus Mission to the Unknown plus some Sara Janes, I guess. Since this seemed a strange category to have, I followed up. But I believe category names should not be ambiguous, as per T:CAT NAME.

Not to be completely negative, let me try to also propose an alternative. I'm wondering if Time Lord society is not the same as Gallifrey society. Granted, not all stories currently in the category happen on Gallifrey. The Doctor's Wife and Shada are definitely not there. But then I'm not sure why they were added to the category. Most probably because of their connection to something happening on Gallifrey. At any rate, I propose to change the name either to Category:Gallifrey television stories, which is more restrictive, or to Category:Gallifrey related television stories, which is more inclusive. Thanks for the answer. To be honest, I also thought that deleting the category would be a better solution, but I generally try to refrain from suggestions to delete something that has been on the Wikia for a long time. In other words, my suggestion to rename it was a compromise rather than my own position. At any rate, I consider such changes to be above my pay grade. Doctor Who?

A recent comic story Doctormania introduced an in-universe holo-show called Doctor Who?, currently at Doctor Who? (Doctormania). The name conflicts with a comic strip from the real world, Doctor Who? It is my understanding of T:DAB that the dab term should be on the real thing, not the in-universe thing. Thus, I put a rename tag on it. However, there are more than 100 links to the comic strip page. Thus, I am requesting if you could use your bot to change the links, unless, of course, my understanding of the dab rules is mistaken. In the latter case, I would be grateful for an explanation of the rules and would proceed to remove the rename tags myself. Amorkuz ☎ 15:19, June 30, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. As a way of apology for seemingly unnecessary message, I was not sure how uncontroversial this rename was and I did contact another admin before writing here. There is another pair of same-name pages: Doctor Who Appreciation Society and Doctor Who Appreciation Society (Doctormania). Since the admin I contacted first suggested that the real-world DWAS is so prominent that it should stay undabbed, I was not sure if speedy rename is really applicable to Doctor Who?. Plus, I think I've misunderstood the message atop T:SPEEDY. I thought, one should notify a bot-owner when a large link-changing job is afoot. Sorry for creating unnecessary conversation. Hey.

GOR issue

By the way, while we're discussing what I could improve in my quest of Rulers of the Universe's humanity, I couldn't find a clean way of adding the "Fact" template to a field in the infobox that is automatically linked, specifically, the species field for characters. That's not a valid use of {{fact}}. You should avoid putting it in any infobox. Let me rephrase that, actually: you should never put it in an infobox. The reason is that infoboxes are meant to showcase only information that is indisputable. If you don't know the value of a variable in an infobox, please don't include it.

Sorry about it. Just to be clear, I did not put "Human" and "Earth" to these pages. I was trying to figure out where the basis for this information originated from. Oh, very good. But, still, infoboxes are not meant to be exhaustive. If there's any doubt about information contained therein, you should remove that info and then leave an edit summary explaining why you've done that.

A couple of other "finer points of Tardis editing" for you. T:SPEEDY is only for completely non-controversial renames. Nothing about the proposed page name can be in any way speculative. Also, if you propose a speedy rename, the proposed name can't contain speculative spelling. This is why I've nixed your "Arkle Jenkins" proposal, changed all of the link moves you made, and returned the wiki to its pre-proposal state. We don't know if "Arkle" is right, so "Jenkins (I Went to a Marvellous Party)" is preferred. (But thank you so much for trying to move the links. That's generally very helpful.)

I'm always thankful for finer points. If I may, I would appreciate a clarification since there were several changes I've made or proposed to make based on my belief that (First name, Last name) should be used for the page name whenever mentioned. I'm sorry to say but I made it a point to search the names missing from the cast and put in a move request. I'm pretty sure that first/last name spelling given in the script is non-controversial. My question is this: is Arkle controversial because it is such a weird name and who knows how it's spelled or is some written source always necessary to rename the page? To give an example, I've initiated a move of Lifford to Freeman Lifford recently. It's the same situation: Freeman is pronounced in the audio but is not spelled in any production sources. Am I right in thinking that "Freeman" is a reasonably common spelling, so there is no need to undo that move? Another, even finer point, given your reply regarding spellings earlier, am I right that speculative spellings are to be avoided only if spelling of another part of the name is verifiable? What I mean is this: it is possible to have a page for Jenkins without committing to a spelling of his first name, but it is not possible to have a page for Kamishi without guessing some spelling. Sorry for asking about such fine distinctions, but your answers would affect how closely I will need to re-listen to the stories in the future. In particular, if speculative spellings are not allowed at all, I can concentrate on editing other missing details. One last question: if spelling is speculative, is it not allowed anywhere outside BHS or is it allowed in the article in general but not in the page name? Thank you in advance for your answers. Finally, you'll note at phase pistol that I've edited to use a template you probably didn't know existed: {{iw}}. It means "inter-wiki", and is by far the fastest way you can link to another wiki here at Wikia. Check out this diff. In fact, if you ever find yourself a little bored, you might want to check out the whole category. (And, yes, you can use {{iw|startrek|pagename}} instead of {{iw|memory-alpha|pagename}}; it just comes more naturally to me to type "memory-alpha". Plus, I think it's just a little bit more specific to someone who's reading the page code upon editing. After all, there are other Star Trek wikis available.)

I think I understand what to do now. Thank you. I'll use "rename" instead of "speedy rename" in the future for speculative spellings. As for Freeman Lifford, he is a British colonel without any hint of Germanness. I think that leaves Freeman as the only reasonable possibility of spelling. More precisely, it is always possible that the writer used a different spelling. There were some very weird choices indeed (C'rizz anyone? or especially L'da, somehow pronounced as "Lidah"). But the overwhelming probability is on Freeman. In other words, almost everyone searching for something that sounds like "Freeman" would search for something that is spelled Freeman. Legacy (video game)

On the beggining of August, there will be a new Doctor Who: Legacy expansion, in which a new companion and a new enemy will be introcuded (both have never appeared in any other media). On the Legacy wiki, the standard action for enemies/companion pages is to link the correspondent page on the Tardis wiki. (see [1] and [2] for example). Once they are released, is it ok if I create pages for them (and add images for their infoboxes)? I would, of course, also add the "Invalid" tag at the beggining of the articles. Help! I was auto-blocked!

Hi.

My regular name is BadCatMan, I'm currently posting as my bot from the Forgotten Realms Wiki, where I'm an admin and bureaucrat.

I wanted to make my own personal Monobook skin, beginning by reverting to old TARDIS Wiki skins. (The current Monobook skin is very buggy and I'm not comfortable working with it or the Oasis/Wikia skin.) I copy-pasted the code to my User:BadCatMan/monobook.css page. But when I tried to publish, the Abuse filter flagged the presence of all-caps in the code, called me "nosy", and auto-banned me and my IP address for an infinite period of time.

Worse, I can't post at my own user or user talk pages, nor could I post at your talk page as the system suggested. Fortunately, I had a bot account that wasn't blocked here, so I could actually find a way to contact you.

Colour Toggler Implementation

Hi there,

Could I receive your permission to study, adapt, and implement a similar colour changer function onto the Twin Saga wiki, like the one used in the Tardis wiki?

I saw this discussion and it seems like it would be a useful feature for users looking up information while in a dark setting.

I'm not sure if this should belong on the Community Development Team's request page, because it's a feature specific to the Tardis wiki.

Response, finally

Yeah, I got that, eventually. The first time I tried responding, I mentioned the forbidden word (I don't even know what the zebra index is, and didn't know it wouldn't work anywhere). Second time, I removed the mention and others, but responded directly to you, and got caught again because of your post. Third time, logged out on my phone, I tried a small response on your Talk page and I don't even know what got me kicked that time. This latest time, I made a new section via +note, but mistakenly used my Talk page, while thinking I was posting on yours here. (Switching talk pages is confusing and not my habit.) So apparently my whole Talk page is off-limits until I remove the words you put there. So please don't blame me, I don't know how your abuse filter works, and I hadn't seen one on a wiki before.

I don't object to your policies, I'm not a part of the community yet. But the most frustrating part of the whole experience was the permanent block so I couldn't wait it out (IP addresses seem to change and recycle over time, and repeat offenders at our wiki keep returning with new addresses, so I've found perma-blocking them to be pointless) and the inability to post on my own Talk page to seek help. I know "Prevent this user from editing their own talk page while blocked" is a non-standard option, and I've never seen it used anywhere. So I feel your abuse filter is way too aggressive and draconian, and is surely discouraging me and other users. It's also been a big waste of time.
