In 2011, a number of things set in or relevant to the Doctor Who universe were released or published.
- January - The 2011 series of IDW Publishing's Doctor Who Ongoing comic book, featuring the adventures of the Eleventh Doctor, was first released.
- January - AUDIO: The Crimes of Thomas Brewster was released by Big Finish.
- January - AUDIO: Prisoner of the Sun was released by Big Finish.
- January - AUDIO: Peri and the Piscon Paradox was released by Big Finish.
- January - The second series of Jago & Litefoot was released by Big Finish.
- 3 January - The Land's End exhibition Doctor Who Up Close closed.
- 10 January - Meglos was released on Region 2 DVD.
- 24 January - A Christmas Carol was released on Region 2 DVD. The set also contained Doctor Who at the Proms (2010).
- 26 January - Dermot and the Doctor was first broadcast on ITV.
- 31 January - The Mutants was released on Region 2 DVD.
- February - AUDIO: The Feast of Axos was released by Big Finish.
- February - AUDIO: Lucie Miller was released. This was the first of a two-part story to be concluded with To the Death.
- February - AUDIO: The Perpetual Bond was released.
- 10 February - AUDIO: The Jade Pyramid was released.
- 14 February - The Ark was released on Region 2 DVD.
- 14 February - AUDIO: Doctor Who: The Lost TV Episodes - Collection Two audio box set was released in the UK. This collection incorporates audio tracks for several William Hartnell missing stories: Mission to the Unknown, The Daleks' Master Plan, The Massacre, The Celestial Toymaker, and The Savages.
- 20 February - The Doctor Who Experience, as well as the interactive story, opened in London.
- 28 February - Short Trips - Volume II was released, again containing one story for each of the first eight Doctors.
- March - AUDIO: Industrial Evolution was released.
- March - AUDIO: The Forbidden Time was released.
- March - Gallifrey IV was released by Big Finish Productions.
- 7 March - Kinda and Snakedance were released on Region 2 DVD in the Mara Tales box set.
- 14 March - AUDIO: The Gemini Contagion was released.
- 18 March - Space and Time were first broadcast. These were two 2011 Comic Relief specials (comprising one story) written by Steven Moffat, and the first televised story to have no settings other than the TARDIS since The Edge of Destruction (although technically Amy's Choice also took place entirely inside the ship). After this, a live scene, The Doctor Drops In, was also broadcast.
- 28 March - The second Revisitations DVD box set was released, comprising new editions of stories that were released early in the range and containing new special features. This release included Carnival of Monsters, Resurrection of the Daleks, and The Seeds of Death.
- 31 March - AUDIO: To the Death was released. It was the sequel to last month's Lucie Miller, and the final episode of the fourth series of The New Eighth Doctor Adventures.
- April - AUDIO: Heroes of Sontar was released.
- April - AUDIO: Thin Ice was released.
- April - AUDIO: The Sentinels of the New Dawn was released.
- 18 April - Planet of the Spiders was released on Region 2 DVD.
- 23 April - The Impossible Astronaut was first broadcast on BBC One, launching series six of Doctor Who. This was one of only three instances where a new series Doctor Who television story took place on the same day as its broadcast. The other two occurrences were: The Big Bang (26 June 2010) and part one of The End of Time (25 December 2009).
- 30 April - Day of the Moon was first broadcast on BBC One.
- May - AUDIO: Kiss of Death was released.
- May - AUDIO: Ferril's Folly was released.
- 5 May - AUDIO: The Hounds of Artemis was released.
- 7 May - The Curse of the Black Spot was first broadcast.
- 9 May - Spearhead from Space and Terror of the Autons were released on Region 2 DVD as part of the Mannequin Mania box set.
- 14 May - The Doctor's Wife was first broadcast on BBC One.
- 21 May - The Rebel Flesh was first broadcast on BBC One.
- 28 May - The Almost People was first broadcast on BBC One.
- 30 May - Frontios was released on Region 2 DVD.
- 31 May - AUDIO: Crime of the Century was released.
- 31 May - AUDIO: Short Trips - Volume III was released.
- June - AUDIO: Rat Trap was released. AUDIO: Twilight's End was also offered to subscribers.
- June - AUDIO: Animal was released.
- June - AUDIO: The Cold Equations, the last of the range's fifth series, was released.
- June - The third series of Jago & Litefoot was released.
- 4 June - A Good Man Goes to War was broadcast. After this episode, Series 6 was scheduled to go on hiatus until later in the year, marking the longest mid-season hiatus in the series' history.
- 20 June - The Gunfighters and The Awakening were released on Region 2 DVD, compiled as the Earth Story box set. The release of The Awakening meant that the entire Fifth Doctor era was on DVD.
- July - AUDIO: Robophobia was released.
- July - AUDIO: Earth Aid was released.
- July - AUDIO: Tales from the Vault was released.
- 7 July - The novelisations of The Daleks and of The Crusade were reprinted by BBC Books.
- 7 July - AUDIO: The Eye of the Jungle was released.
- 8 July - The New World was first broadcast on Starz.
- 11 July - Doctor Who - Series 6, Part 1 was released on Region 2 DVD.
- 14 July - Torchwood: Miracle Day premiered in the UK with the broadcast of The New World.
- 15 July - Rendition was first broadcast on Starz.
- 18 July - Paradise Towers was released on Region 2 DVD.

- 4 August - AUDIO: Doctor Who: The Lost TV Episodes - Collection Three audio box set was released in the UK. This collection incorporates the audio tracks for several missing First Doctor and Second Doctor stories: The Smugglers, The Tenth Planet, The Power of the Daleks, The Highlanders, The Underwater Menace, and The Moonbase.
- 4 August - Doctor Who - Series 6, Part 1 was released on Region 4 DVD.
- 5 August - The Categories of Life was first broadcast on Starz.
- 12 August - The Middle Men was first broadcast on Starz.
- 19 August - Immortal Sins was first broadcast on Starz.

- 1 October - The Wedding of River Song was first broadcast on BBC One, ending Doctor Who's sixth series.
- 1 October - A special episode of Doctor Who, Death Is the Only Answer, was first broadcast. This was a three-minute 'mini episode' written by schoolchildren from Basingstoke who won a Doctor Who Confidential competition.
- 3 October - Colony in Space was released on Region 2 DVD.
- 3 October - Part one of Sky was first broadcast, beginning The Sarah Jane Adventures's fifth series.
- 4 October - Sky Part Two was first broadcast.
- 6 October - AUDIO: The Broken Crown was released.

- 18 November - The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe was announced as the title for the year's Christmas special on Children in Need. The first footage was shown and Matt Smith revealed that he was selling his costume for Children in Need. Children in Need 2011 was also broadcast.
