History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Invasion[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Daleks invaded Mars while on their way to Earth. Colonists fought back and, with the help of the Ice Warriors, created a virus which ate away at Dalek cable insulation. The Dalek forces were driven away from the colony and decided just to focus on the Earth. (PROSE: The Dalek Invasion of Mars)

The invasion saw the Daleks destroying the Martian city of Marventos as well as creating Robomen. The Martian government held on long enough for the Minister of Space Defence, Zavarim L., to issue a "Dalek Defence Drill" poster advising his citizens on how to best survive. (PROSE: What To Do If A Dalek Attacks You!) An old man and a teenage girl from another world helped fight off the invasion. (PROSE: Beige Planet Mars)

While being interrogated by Davros in an agony seat during the Genesis Incident, the Fourth Doctor recounted that on Mars, the Daleks were defeated by a virus that attacked the insulation on the cables in their electrical systems. (TV: Genesis of the Daleks) According to one historical account, this invasion was part of the conflict following the Time Destructor Incident of 4000, contemporary to the Dalek invasion of Venus. (PROSE: The Whoniverse)

Aftermath and legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Mars was again attacked by the Daleks during their war with humanity in 2545, before they were driven off-world in the Battle for Mars. The 50th anniversary of the battle was recognised in 2595, also the 500th anniversary of Earth's colonisation of Mars. Bernice Summerfield observed that the battle was only the third war on Mars in a period of about 500 years, following the 2157 Dalek invasion and the Thousand Year War from 2086 to 2088, which she deemed a "pretty good tally" compared to Earth history. Alternate realities[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Daleks are attacked by the Martian Sphinx. (COMIC: Daleks Versus the Martians)

In a version of history "B" to the First Doctor's version of history "A", (PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide) the Daleks established a presence on Mars which was discovered by Dr. Who, who was investigating the Martian Sphinx, traveling to the planet with his granddaughter Susan and his niece Louise. While Dr. Who was preparing to study the apparent formation, the group were surrounded by Daleks floating on hoverbouts. The Daleks kidnapped Louise and attempted to do the same to Dr. Who and Susan, but they were saved at the last moment by a group of telepathic natives, who lead them to an underground base.

Dr. Who and Susan noticed a series of hieroglyphics on the wall of the base, but were unsure of what they meant. Upon asking one of the Martians about why the Daleks had invaded, it was explained to them that they planned to use Mars as a base to concur Earth. Shortly after this, Dr. Who announced that he had solved the mystery of the Sphinx, revealing that the hieroglyphics on the wall were actually a long-lost activation sequence for a massive Martian robot. Using this knowledge, the group were able to raise the robot out of the air to attack the Dalek forces as Dr. Who attempted to save Louise by breaking into a Dalek flying saucer. However, he discovered that this was a trap, as the Daleks wanted to take him to Skaro to drain the secrets of time travel from his mind. As the ship took off, it was attacked by the robot, although Louise and the Doctor were able to escape on one of the Dalek hoverboats.

The Daleks foothold on Mars lost, Dr. Who and his companions departed in TARDIS, although Who wondered if the preceding event was the eve of a war. (COMIC: Daleks Versus the Martians) Indeed, the Daleks would invade Earth in the year 2150. (TV: Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.)
