Early history[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 1587, the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Susan Foreman visited Seville. During this time, the city and the rest of Spain was preparing for a naval invasion of England following the execution of the Catholic Mary I at the hands of English Protestants. Also during this time, the Spanish Inquisition was active. The inquisition in that year burned down the house of Esteban Aribi, arresting both him and Ian Chesterton, the latter for dissent. Ian and Esteban were sent for tribunal in the Plaza de San Francisco, but were saved by Barbara and Susan shortly before they were burnt alive.
