Digby Short
Digby Short was a casting director who worked at Century 21 Film Productions in 2066, including on the film which was to star Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward.
Short sent a letter to Creighton-Ward Manor asking Lady Penelope to visit him at the studios. She received the mail upon her return from Australia and set up a meeting for the following week. He explained that they had seen her photograph in the paper and were interested in her appearing as an actor in a film. He then escorted her to the office of producer Mr Andershill, who explained the proposal in further detail. Penelope initially declined, although she agreed to another luncheon with Andershill, leaving Short in a quandary as he was so sure she would accept that he had already put out a story to the society columns in order to start the publicity build-up.
Luckily, she did eventually accept and the production proceeded as planned. Short was present for rehearsals in London and at one point apologised to Lady Penelope about the rude attitude of her fellow co-star Paul Carson. He also witnessed Mr Steelman's failed attempt to assassinate Penelope. Production continued for a time once they landed in Hollywood but after Carson was killed in a car crash and his position as a Bereznik spy revealed he sadly informed Penelope that the film would have to be called off becasuse there was no point in continuing without the leading star. Penelope commiserated with him and they parted ways after Short complimented her abilities as an actress and told her that he would like to work with her again in the future. (COMIC: Desert Drama)
