Masterful social media-only exclusive scene was a webcast special by Big Finish Productions featuring the Unbound Master and Kamelion released on 1 December 2020.[1]

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Master hums along to Kamelion's lute-playing before asking him to help trim the sail of the space yacht to bring them to the left of the Oort cloud. He disparages what remains of Mutter's Spiral and that the Doctor wouldn't be pleased. Kamelion agrees. He asks Kamelion to shift the view to see the rest of the universe and notes there isn't much left. He mentions that his other selves are investigating the cause of its destruction, to which Kamelion asks him how he believes it to be going. He calls them stupid fools. The universe is doomed and nothing they can do can stop it.

Kamelion asks what the Master would propose to do about it and the Master chastises him to drop the subservient butler act: he didn't even try to murder him at breakfast. Kamelion apologises. The Master can't have Kamelion getting fond of him and sends him on his way to get his silver hands dirty - he knows Kamelion has a plan of his own. He orders him to find his other selves and to put a stop to them. Kamelion obeys and says goodbye. As he goes, he reveals he took the liberty of activating the yacht's auto-destruct. The Master compliments him for doing so.

The Master reasons - after he's sorted the auto-destruct out - that if there's any chance of saving the universe... He's just going to have to invade Gallifrey.

Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Kamelion plays a lute, as he did in TV: The King's Demons [+]Loading...["The King's Demons (TV story)"].
  • The Master says the state of Mutter's Spiral would kill the Doctor, "if he weren't dead already", matching information disclosed in AUDIO: Masterful [+]Loading...["Masterful (audio story)"].
  • The usual universe's version of Mettula Orionsis was first mentioned in TV: The Keeper of Traken [+]Loading...["The Keeper of Traken (TV story)"]; it was Traken's star system, meaning it was among the countless such systems destroyed by the Tremas Master's entropy wave in TV: Logopolis [+]Loading...["Logopolis (TV story)"], just as its counterpart in the Unbound Universe is now revealed to have been destroyed.
  • Kamelion tries to murder the Master; AUDIO: Masterful [+]Loading...["Masterful (audio story)"] would reveal he was ordered to do so by Missy, with the audio story showing that Kamelion's plan is ultimately successful. Meanwhile, Masterful reveals that the Unbound Master succeeds in invading Gallifrey, installing himself as Lord President. His plan immediately after is, conversely, unsuccessful.
