After the Daleks was the first story of the seventh series of The Early Adventures, produced by Big Finish Productions. It was also the range's first story not to feature a Doctor, it was written by Roland Moore and featured Carole Ann Ford as Susan Foreman, Sean Biggerstaff as David Campbell and Lucy Briers as Jenny Chaplin. The story forms a direct sequel to The Dalek Invasion of Earth which follows Susan's perspective.

The Dalek Invasion of Earth is over, but there's still so much left to do. Susan is trying to help rebuild society as best she can, but some people don't see it as a chance to restore what was lost. Some people see it as a chance to claim power for themselves.
It's not just human survivors that Susan has to worry about. Unbeknownst to her, a lone Dalek survives. A lone Dalek with a single purpose – to reclaim the Earth!

- This story was recorded on 30 and 31 October 2019 at the Moat Studios.
- In a first for The Early Adventures range, the Doctor doesn't appear in this story.
- This was David Campbell and Jenny Chaplin's debut in a Big Finish audio drama. David was previously portrayed by Peter Fraser, whilst Jenny was previously portrayed by Lucy Briers' mother Ann Davies.
- David Richardson's initial brief to Roland Moore was to imagine if The Dalek Invasion of Earth had a seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth episode. (BFX: After the Daleks)
- This is the third Dalek story in The Early Adventures, after The Dalek Occupation of Winter (also the first of its respective series) and Daughter of the Gods (the release immediate preceding After the Daleks). It is the fourth appearance of the Daleks in the range over all as they first received a cameo at the end of The Sontarans. The Dalek role in this story, however, while more substantial than a cameo, is significantly limited. Moore did not want them to overshadow the story. (BFX: After the Daleks)
- The story was partly viewed as a bridge between The Dalek Invasion of Earth and An Earthly Child in The Eighth Doctor Adventures. (BFX: After the Daleks)
- Terry Nation's estate approved of Jenny's surname, Chaplin, first used in this story. (BFX: After the Daleks)
- Limitations were made to the story's content to keep it in line with the style of 1960s Doctor Who. References to revived-era episodes were allowed on the grounds that it was not entirely impossible for the original series to have included dialogue relating to similar concepts. Conversely, a scene in which the Dalek attacks someone with its sucker, reminiscent of scenes from Dalek and Doomsday, was excised because such a spectacle was deemed likely to have been mechanically beyond the 60s production capabilities. - Moore felt the story's title could have a double meaning: referring to Earth rebuilding after the Daleks have been defeated, and to Marcus Bray taking after the Daleks in terms of his methods and morality. (BFX: After the Daleks)

- Immediately after being left on Earth, Susan drops her TARDIS key to the ground. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth) Susan will later recover her key and keep it close. It will alert her to the Eighth Doctor's return. (AUDIO: Lucie Miller)
- Susan imagines the Doctor saying "Come on, we've got work to do". The Seventh Doctor would later say exactly this to his companion Ace. (TV: Survival)
- Jenny's brother, Victor, was converted into a Roboman during the invasion. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)

- Jenny recalls that the Houses of Parliament had been abandoned, (PROSE: Legacy of the Daleks) since all the politicians were rounded up and exterminated, "quite early on". (PROSE: Alien Bodies)
- Among the Earth scientific programs that were abandoned during the invasion were Orson Pink's time travel experiments, (TV: Listen) and the Gangers. (TV: The Rebel Flesh)
- After returning to Earth in 1965, (TV: The Chase) repeated questioning led Barbara Wright to reveal her encounters with giant bugs (TV: The Web Planet) and Marco Polo, (TV: Marco Polo) as well as the Daleks. (TV: The Daleks, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Chase, AUDIO: Return to Skaro)
- It is speculated that the invasion has caused a 200 year regression in Earth's technological development. (AUDIO: An Earthly Child)
