Alfred Hitchcock was a "famous manufacturer of moving pictures" around Sarah Jane Smith's time. Sarah said she "supposed" she liked him. Among Hitchcock's films was The Trouble with Harry. The Fifth Doctor claimed to have given Hitchcock the inspiration for a technique in which the camera moved and zoomed at the same time, to which Tegan Jovanka expressed doubt. James Stewart was noted for his performances in "Hitchockian thrillers". (PROSE: Interference - Book Two)

In 1962, Michael Brookhaven provided Hitchcock with the near finished shooting script for the 1998 thriller Mason House. Hitchcock was overworked at the time, so he gladly accepted the script and made the film. The 1998 Mason House became more successful because it was a remake. (PROSE: The Book of the War)

When Luke Tillyard first met Charley Pollard at King's Cross station, and she asked him for help and subsequently kissed him as a distraction for the others, he was reminded of femme fatales in Hitchcock films, but stopped struggling regardless, kissing her back. (PROSE: Salva Mea)

Alfred Hitchcock also directed The Birds. Jean Marsh had a small but significant role in the Hitchcock film Frenzy, as Monica Barling.

Hitchcock was played by Toby Jones in the 2012 telefilm The Girl, by Roger Ashton-Griffiths in the 2014 film Grace of Monaco and by Ian McNeice in the 2023 series Archie.

House of Silents, the first story in UNIT: Silenced, was heavily inspired by Hitchcock's Rear Window.
