History[[edit] | edit source]

Judgement by the Kotturuh[[edit] | edit source]

Sometime during the Dark Times, the Kotturuh arrived on Birinji and judged how worthy the inhabitants were to the universe. They arrived at the decision of allocating the indigenous Birinjians a lifespan of three months while the native crystal moths lived on for eternity. (PROSE: The Dawn of the Kotturuh) One of the Kotturuh who judged the planet was Inyit, who, upon allotting a lifespan to a certain type of grass, determined they had arrived too early, which caused her to develop doubts towards the Kotturuh Design. Determined to stop the rest of her race, she fought against them and began a war against the Kotturuh, at the end of which nothing was left on Birinji. Inyit was exiled to rule alone over the dead planet. (PROSE: All Flesh is Grass)

The Kotturuh extinction[[edit] | edit source]

Inyit dedicated herself to maintaining a garden on Birinji in a biodome, even after the beginning of the extinction of her people by the Tenth Doctor’s necrotic virus. She was visited by the Ninth Doctor and Ikalla who were seeking the last of the Kotturuh to try to save her. A Dalek scout ship attacked the dome to complete their orders of finishing off the Kotturuh, however was shot down by the HMS Donna commanded by the Tenth and Eighth Doctors. Whilst the Doctors and Inyit spoke, the mercenary crew of the Donna set to work repairing the dome. Whilst the Doctor and the Donna set off to defend Gallifrey from the looming Dalek attack, Ikalla remained on Birinji with the ailing Inyit. The Dalek Symbiont arrived on the planet to assassinate Inyit however she used the last of her power to judge it, leaving it with a lifespan of mere seconds, which also saved the Doctors from the onslaught of hybrids with it’s DNA. Having saved Gallifrey, the Ninth and Tenth Doctors returned to Birinji in time to witness Inyit’s death, passing on her energies into Ikalla. Becoming “something new”, Ikalla summoned her fellow freed vampires to Birinji and became their scion, freeing them from the fates of their former masters. The two Doctors reconciled as the Free Undead settled on the planet. When they eventually departed, the Tenth Doctor’s companion Brian chose to remain behind on Birinji. (PROSE: All Flesh is Grass)
