Captain Evelyn Chan was a soldier assigned to investigate a deadly outbreak in Fort Casey, Nevada. She had a partner, Rutherford, who was killed during their investigation. Chan managed to save herself by ripping off her compromised comm system. She met the Eighth Doctor as he was tracking the spore that caused the outbreak and refused to leave his side. After escaping the outbreak with a broken ankle, she expressed an interest in seeing the universe beyond Earth. However, the Doctor did not invite her to travel with him, though he did say that he might look in on her at some point in the future. (PROSE: Spore)
