Redacted was the first Doctor Who audio series produced by BBC Studios. It was released by BBC Sounds with a 10-part weekly Series 1 and an all at once 6-part Series 2 and introduced an ensemble cast: Charlie Craggs as Cleo Proctor, Lois Chimimba as Abby McPhail and Holly Quin-Ankrah as Shawna Thompson.

Juno Dawson acted as the lead writer for Redacted, which also featured guest writers.

Synopsis[[edit]]

What if this random police public call box was actually an alien ship?

They don’t know who the Doctor is, or if aliens are real, but soon find themselves caught in a supernatural conspiracy as they learn that everyone who’s ever met the Doctor is disappearing and being forgotten.

Essentially, they’re being redacted from reality. The Blue Box Files is so unsuccessful that our heroes are the last ones to be affected by the redaction, making Cleo, Abby and Shawna the world’s only hope. Now it’s a race against time to uncover the truth.

Cleo (left), Abby (mid) and Shawna (right)… the hosts of The Blue Box Files fanart by Rosie.[1]
  • On 25 April 2022, an artist, Rosie (@rosiedoesartsometimes), made fanart of the three main characters of Doctor Who: Redacted, Cleo, Abby and Shawna, and released it on social media.[2] On 29 April 2022, this particular fanart was acknowledged by the official Doctor Who accounts, therefore making it valid for coverage on this Wiki.[1] This remained the only officially-recognised visual representation of the characters until 8 May, when the official BBC Sounds account tweeted an animated image showing an illustration of all three characters credited to @kxmolo.[3] Another image in the same style, showing Cleo and the Thirteenth Doctor, was posted by the BBC Sounds account on July 19.[4]
  • To date, Doctor Who: Redacted holds the distinction of being the only spin-off from the parent show to have been covered in detail for Doctor Who: The Roleplaying Game, with an outline for the season (presented as a single, ten-episode story) as well as stat blocks for Abby, Shawna and Cleo included in the Thirteenth Doctor Sourcebook. Previously, the only spin-off characters to be featured in a Doctor Who: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook were those who had crossed over into the parent program, such as Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones.
