Cousin Nerissa was a member of Faction Paradox who was skilled in linguistic warfare, tearing worlds apart due to minor changes to a holy text, or breeding armies by introducing the concept of eugenics into a culture. She became lost in stories, and attempted to find her way out through influencing the work of various human authors, before eventually becoming trapped in the Boulevard of Alternate Brutalities.
