Paris (Nestene duplicate)
A Nestene duplicate of Sir Paris was a character in an alternative version of William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.
This Paris did not appear in the play as performed, only in the variant which Shakespeare wrote while under pressure from James Burbage to "make dark tragedie light". Other additions included the Doctor, Amy and Rory, who were eventually able to save Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague from committing suicide, as well as saving Paris from death. At some point in the play, the Doctor and his friends replaced the real Paris with the duplicate, who was later slayed by Romeo's sword. He and everyone else believed that the real Paris had been killed until Act V Scene III, the final scene of the play, after the Doctor revealed the small deception when Paris emerged from the TARDIS. Paris noted he was "unmurdered as you can see", exonerating Romeo for the crime, and explained "it was not [he who Romeo] fought and blood beget". The Doctor added that the slain Paris had been a Nestene duplicate and further celebration ensued amongst the assorted cast of characters when he revealed Tybalt had survived as well.
