Paris (The True and Most Excellent Comedie of Romeo and Juliet)
Sir Paris was a character in William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.
Early in the play, he "wish[ed]" for Juliet Capulet to be his wife. He was eventually slain by Romeo Montague. In an alternative version of the play conceived to "make dark tragedie light", Paris survived the play's events, because the new additions of the Doctor, Amy and Rory had arranged for him to be replaced by a Nestene duplicate during his supposed death scene, although Romeo and everybody else in Verona believed it to be definite article. In Act V Scene III, after the Doctor and his friends had also prevented Romeo and Juliet from committing suicide, a small bout of celebration ensued but Romeo noted the deaths of both Paris and Tybalt was "still a blemish on [their] joy" and, despite having remorse for the acts, requested to be banished from Verona for his crimes. At this point the Doctor revealed Paris to be alive and he emerged from the TARDIS with Rosaline. Paris commented he was "unmurdered as you can see", exonerating Romeo for the crime, and explained "it was not [he who Romeo] fought and blood beget", with the Doctor elaborating it had been a Nestene duplicate. Paris further stated that he no longer wanted to pursue Juliet, having found love with Rosaline, and the couple joined hands. Celebration resumed following the revelation that Tybalt too had lived past his prior altercation with Romeo and the Doctor subsequently closed the play with a final speech.
