The prequel to The Curse of the Black Spot was the second prequel produced by the BBC for the sixth series of Doctor Who.

April 1, 1699: Captain Henry Avery writes in his journal onboard the Fancy. They have been stranded for eight days for lack of wind. All they can do is wait. He writes of an enemy who comes from the still ocean and takes members of the fearful crew. The captain feels an evil presence watching him and longs for the wind to pick up so they may leave, but he feels they are all doomed to die.
