History[[edit] | [edit source]]
On 22 December 2023, the band performed their "usual set" of Christmas songs, some old classics, some crowd-pleasers, and some "newer, cooler" Christmas anthems, at (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) the King's Arms (TV: The Devil's Chord [+]Loading...["The Devil's Chord (TV story)"]) in London. It was a small, low-paying gig, but Ruby didn't complain as she needed the money. Before getting on stage, Ruby had playfully fought with Trudy to wear a tinsel scarf, leaving bits of it in the latter's hair, whilst Clark laughed so much his tears ruined his David Bowie-inspired eyeliner. They opened with "One More Sleep". (TV: The Devil's Chord [+]Loading...["The Devil's Chord (TV story)"]) As they were performing "Winter Wonderland" — Trudy singing, Ruby playing the musical keyboard, Clark "lovingly" playing the guitar, and Big Jim drumming — (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) a Goblin pulled the plug on their instruments, (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"]) and Ruby reasoned that a fuse must have blown. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) After their audiences' brief moment of startle, a woman who looked vaguely like a hippy asked them to perform "Gaudete", but Trudy was unfamiliar with the song (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"]) and also told the woman that the band didn't take requests. Ruby hid her smile at Trudy's behaviour. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) Unbeknownst to them, the Fifteenth Doctor was watching them, having witnessed the whole debacle. The next day, in a nightclub, as the group discussed what happened at the gig, Trudy revealed that she had discovered the unplugged plug. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TC0oRR","page":"17-18","chaptnum":"Four","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"})
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- In all currently released fiction, Ruby Sunday's band has not been identified with a name. However, in an interview with Millie Gibson, the name of the band is revealed to be The Red Notes.[1] The name was actually present on a poster used for the set dressing in The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"], but this was obscured. It was later revealed by assistant graphic designer Sophie Cowdrey.[2]
