Stingray (ship)
Stingray was a World Aquanaut Security Patrol vessel. Its captain was Troy Tempest, with the additional crew made up of Lieutenant Phones Sheridan and Marina.
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
In January 2065, Stingray responded to calls for help from the captain of the submarine aircraft carrier S.A.3. following sightings of monster jellyfish. However, Marineville subsequently lost contact with Stingray, destroying any hope of a rescue bid. (COMIC: Genesis of Evil) Stingray quickly re-established communications and reported that they had lost contact with the aircraft carrier after being attacked by a Titan Terror Fish, raising the alarm at Marineville. (PROSE: Stingray Attacked!) Indeed, Commander Shore cited "grave concern" for the safety of the ship when he placed the WASP station on Orange Standby, telling a reporter for TV Century 21 "Stingray is finished, we've got to be prepared for anything". Later, with tensions still rising, Shore was said to be ready to launch Hydromic Missiles unless further news was received from Stingray within two hours. (COMIC: Genesis of Evil) Contact with Stingray would remain elusive (PROSE: Fireball Surrenders!) but colour video-scan pictures revealed the patrol vessel had been trapped in an undersea cavern by Titan's jellyfish. (PROSE: Titan Declares War!) In a later interview for TV21, Shore told their Marineville reporter he could hold off offensive measures against the Strike Aircraft (and their unwilling WASP pilots) which were bombarding the base's surface installations for a further two hours in the hope Stingray could resolve the situation. However, he admitted this prospect was remote as the continued radio silence likely indicated that Captain Troy Tempest and his crew were themselves in deadly peril. Meanwhile, the controllers at Marineville Tracking Station Z11 worked frantically to determine the location of the cavern where Stingray was trapped though all they had to go on was a few video-scan pictures received the day before at the Marineville Control Tower. (PROSE: Marineville Waits!)
A photograph of a surfaced Stingray in front of Tracy Island graced the front page of TV Century 21 on 20 February, (PROSE: Titan Declares War!) while a recent video-scan photograph released by the Marineville Press Office was printed in the same place on 6 March. (PROSE: Marineville Waits!)
Lieutenant Lee "Phones" Sheridan later reported that Stingray was operational. (COMIC: The Amaryll Challenge)
