Talk:Message from the Doctor (webcast)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Writer[[edit source]]

I see on the Doctor Who: Lockdown! page that Chibnall is listed as the writer but not on this page. Do we know for sure if it was him?RingoRoadagain 23:52, April 8, 2020 (UTC)

Specific content[[edit source]]

As this is considered a valid source by the wiki, should there be pages for the specific Sontarans and the emergency transmission itself in-universe? (also, does this count as her actually being in a closet, or is it ambiguous?) Cookieboy 2005 21:59, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

The Sontarans: probably not. They're "an army of Sontarans", not individualised to any degree, so I don't think there would be grounds to create a page about them even if they appeared on-screen.
The transmission… Maybe? I guess it counts as a piece of in-universe media. But then again, we don't have pages for specific phone calls. Seems like an edge case. I wouldn't delete it if someone bothered, but it doesn't look like a priority to me.
I think it's clear in the story that she's hiding in a closet, but I don't think it's a distinctive enough closet to have its own page. I guess if someone bothers to create a general "closet" page, a note could be made there. Scrooge MacDuck 22:03, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
Are we certain of it being a closet as opposed to a wardrobe? The page currently claims the main setting to be "A wardrobe", but they seem to define different things. Do we know which this was? Cookieboy 2005 12:48, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

About the anthology version[[edit source]]

Having finally bought the Lockdown book, I read through the talk page for a quick catch-up on how we deal with certain stories in this thing. I understand everything, more or less. That being said, I wanted to talk for a moment about this story:

This is, at first glance, a pretty straightforward prose rendition of the webcast, helped very much by the simplicity of the original video; it's just Jodie monologuing to the camera while verbally providing the set-up so no non-diegetic narration is required. Boom, simple transcript.

There's just one itsy bitsy little detail about this version that's admittedly easy to overlook: the Doctor signs it. As in, she literally ends the message with a handwritten signature!

And we were doing so well…

This completely alters the context in which this message is being delivered in-universe, don't you think? The Doctor is talking to a camera in the webcast, but here it seems as if she's composed the message via written communication.
