Talk:Meta-fiction universe

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Inconsistency[[edit source]]

This page treats the meta-fictional universes in TV Action! and The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who as if they are one and the same, yet we have two different pages for the meta-fictional Doctor Who: Doctor Who (TV Action!) & Doctor Who (The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who) TV show, and the meta-fictional Tom Baker. Well, the first one was created by a non-registered user, and the second one by an admin. Maybe User:SOTO could shed some light on this issue. (Note: I edited the links in User:WaltK's post to separate the two examples.) Shambala108 01:01, October 17, 2019 (UTC)
This page was created in 2008 to cover the universe similar to our own depicted in TV Action! specifically. It remained just so (though it extended coverage to All Our Christmases) until 2017. The expansion to cover TGWLDW was undertaken by one user, really.
To me, it seems speculation to cover the universes depicted in TV Action! and The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who as one and the same, even if production intent on both was clearly to emulate the real world. I created Doctor Who (The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who) based on only that one story (and, it should be noted, almost a full year before Doctor Who (TV Action!) was created, as well as a year and a half before TGWLDW was added to the Meta-fiction universe page) on the basis that I did not have sufficient evidence to link the two stories' settings. Indeed, we covered that story's setting at Parallel universe (The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who) for a good eight months until the creating user redirected that page here and moved its content.
There may well be sufficient evidence to link these stories, but as I'm mostly familiar with just one of the stories in question, I don't have it. Particularly confusing is the attempt to square Deadline with The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who and TV Action!.

I think the subject of whether all stories intended to be set in an alternate version of our own universe in which Doctor Who is fictional are inherently connected perhaps ought to be discussed at greater length in the forums.

Yeah, thanks, I was thinking that might be a good idea. Shambala108 03:26, October 17, 2019 (UTC)

Out of universe article?[[edit source]]

I really think this should be a real world page, as there doesn't seem to be any indication of it being an in-universe concept. WaltK 19:21, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Yeah, as not only has the name "meta-fiction universe" not been used in any source, the concept itself isn't an in-universe one; in-universe, these universes are indistinguishable from any other. I think I'd support a real world oriented rewrite. 19:37, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Makes sense to me. By the way, Walt, did you see my reply to you on your talk page regarding DiT? Scrooge MacDuck 19:44, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Right, additional question: should this page only cover meta-fiction universes (as in, the parallel worlds where DW is fictional), or could we expand it to cover the concept of meta-fiction in general (extending to instances of the DW series existing as such within the Doctor's own world)? WaltK 20:56, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
...I would think that falls under a variety of threads currently in the docket at the temp forums. Najawin 20:58, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
