In a parallel universe, Doctor Who was a TV series which chronicled the adventures of the Doctor. The Eleventh Doctor, visiting this universe in 2013, found that "this is exactly how it was".
Elisabeth Sladen played Sarah Jane Smith, but had died by 2013. In 2013, Matt Smith played the Eleventh Doctor, and Steven was one of the show's writers. The real Eleventh Doctor thought that Peter Capaldi should replace Matt Smith next as the Doctor—"he'd make a great me"—and asked Matt to suggest his name to Steven. Peter Davison played the Fifth Doctor.
Some of the show's serials were entitled The Twin Dilemma and The Android Invasion. By 2013, there was a weekly all-female Doctor Who podcast, and Doctor Who illustrated comics. Merchandise included a DVD release of The Twin Dilemma, a Complete Series 7 box set, an Eleventh Doctor figure which he "[supposed] look[ed] a bit like me", and Doctor Who The Official Annual 2007. Ally, twelve years old, was a major fan of the series, and did not at first believe that the Eleventh Doctor was who he said he was. Her bedroom was full of merchandise. A friend of hers, with whom she often shared Doctor Who references that made him laugh, wore a fez.
At a Doctor Who convention, fans dressed up as the Fourth Doctor, the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, the TARDIS, two Krotons, a Zygon, the Experimental Prototype Robot K1, a Weeping Angel, a Slitheen, a Sea Devil, a Snowman, a Robot Yeti, a Sandminer robot, and a Smiler. Ally recognised the very real Cyberman from the Battle of Canary Wharf, at the same time the Eleventh Doctor did, from having watched the series.
Ally said that some of the monsters looked rubbish, but the Doctor affirmed that that's what they really looked like, "and they were terrifying." Among the scenes from the Doctor's past recorded in the programme was his final moment with Amy Pond, with her saying, "Raggedy man... Goodbye!"
The Doctor believed his chin was "much smaller" than his fictional counterpart's. He said if he had known one of his adventures was called The Android Invasion, "it would have saved a lot of bother".
In 2013, one of the episodes being filmed involved Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor landing in the "real world". For the role of Ally, they cast a girl that looked just like her. The real Eleventh Doctor crashed the production, and tried to take a peek at the script, before a Cyberman appeared. Matt Smith thought they were planning on doing the scene with CGI, "not a double".
The Eleventh Doctor leaving by TARDIS was captured on camera by the Doctor Who crew, who exclaimed, "we are saving so much money today!" (COMIC: The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who)
