At some point of his life Nikola Tesla immigrated to America. He had four cents to his name, but was robbed on the journey. Nevertheless, he was still excited, thinking that he would prosper and his ideas would live. (TV: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror)

Tesla was hired by Edison Machine Works, where he worked for fellow inventor Thomas Edison. He worked for a year on his employer's electrical generator after taking one of his comments literally. After finishing work, Tesla was disappointed by only being offered a small raise, (TV: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror) resulting in a fight on 30 March 1884. In the early 1900s, Tesla transferred most of his work from New York City to his laboratory in Wardenclyffe. In 1903, he intercepted the Mars signal with his Teslascope there and later signalled back. He also was planning the Wardenclyffe Power Plant Prototype as a part of his World Wireless System project. However, his ideas were opposed by the public and protesters gathered in front of his New York laboratory, labelling the alternating current as "death current".
Tesla built the Niagara Generator and held a presentation for the inventors, asking for an investment of 50000 dollars, but they were not willing to pay him. Shortly afterwards, he was targeted by the Skithra, who required an engineer and believed him the greatest scientist on Earth due to him responding to their signal. The Thirteenth Doctor and her friends helped him evade the Skithra and they worked together at Wardenclyffe to fight back against them using Edison’s equipment there. (TV: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror) However, a paradox created by an encounter between the Thirteenth and Tenth Doctors in 1969 rewrote this event, so the Skithra now succeeded in kidnapping Tesla and Edison. The Tenth Doctor, along with Rose and the Thirteenth Doctor’s companions, freed the two scientists from the Skithra and the Thirteenth Doctor brought them back to Earth in the TARDIS.
