Time-shrinker

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Time-shrinker was a drug invented by the Third Doctor which was intended to help UNIT face the Master.

Properties[[edit] | [edit source]]

A few drops, taken by the mouth or injected, sped up a being's metabolism, effectively granting them superhuman speed. The subjects perceived the world around them moving very slowly. In one of his tests, the Doctor asked Captain Mike Yates to fire at him with a submachine gun. The Doctor caught the bullets with ease before the drug wore off.

An hour for the subject would go by in a second to the surrounding world. However, the drug came with deadly side effects. Firstly, the subject aged rapidly while under its effects, which was not deadly to Time Lords but could prove fatal to humans. Secondly, while travelling at great speeds, the subject experienced huge amounts of friction.

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the test, the drug was stolen by a civil servant, Sir Norman Ormsby, who wanted to use it to gain wealth and power. However, he was unaware of the side effects and exploded in a fireball due to the friction he experienced. The Doctor guessed Ormsby had aged to 200 years by the time of his death.

Following the incident, the Doctor shelved the drug in favour of another way of countering the deeds of the Master. He was also confident the Master would have been more careful with the drug had it fallen into his hands than someone like Ormsby. (PROSE: The One Second Hour)
