Hi Guys,
Wikia has teamed up with Loot Crate to run a cool giveaway where you can vote on items, including from Dr. Who, to create your ultimate Loot Crate - and then enter to win.
You can check it out here -- http://www.wikia.com/Know_Days/Loot_Crate

The Tardis Trivia Quizzes, a feature added by this wiki's admins, has nothing to do with this topic, which was created by a Wikia staff member and relates to a Wikia-wide promotion. May I suggest you post in the Drax Cave forum instead, Infurnigmo2?

This contest has been concluded. If you wish to talk about the results, please go to this thread. A copy of the final tally at the time of closure can be found here.
Heck, it don't matter. The point is that we've created ten awards categories for you to vote on. And we've placed them within three sections for three types of fan: casual, obsessive and rabid. The further you go down on the list, the more likely it is that you'll need to have a deeper knowledge of Doctor Who.
So there's something for every level of fan in these awards. Whether you've been watching since Matt Smith or William Hartnell, you'll probably find a category here that'll tickle your brain and spark conversation!
So have fun voting! Just make sure that your votes are in by 2 June 2014. After that, the whole event gets time locked and ya can't play any more!
Casual
Best costume
If you chose to take a look, you may have gotten excited by the new suit Peter Capaldi is gonna rock. But we haven't really seen that costume in action yet. So which of these following past Doctors has the best threads?
- 10pic.jpg
<poll> Which past Doctor has the best clothes? Four Eight Nine Ten Eleven Five </poll>
Most faithful friend
Which companion of the modern era have you enjoyed most. Not who was the best for the Doctor or the best written or anything complicated like that. Just tell us which one you like hangin' with most.
<poll> Who's your favourite companion of the modern era? Rose Martha Donna Amy Rory Clara </poll>
Best use of classic opponents
One of the perennial tasks of the current Doctor Who producers is to find a way to adapt 40-year-old monsters to the modern day. Which alien do you think got the best revamp?
<poll> Which old school baddie is the best in the modern series? Daleks Zygons Cybermen Ice Warriors Silurians Sontarans </poll>
Best regeneration
Regeneration makes for some of the best Doctor Who. But which regeneration scene do you think did it better than any other?
- Logopolis part4.JPG
<poll> Which Doctor had the best exit? Ten Nine Eleven Four Five Seven </poll>
Obsessive
To answer these questions, you're going to need to know a little bit more about the programme. Still, most of you should find these pretty plain sailing!
Best location filming
Though often studio-bound, Doctor Who does sometimes bust out for a bit of location filming. Where do you think the location was used to best effect?
- Arc infinity ep4.JPG
<poll> Which story got the most bang for its location filming buck? City of Death The Two Doctors Arc of Infinity Vincent and the Doctor The Impossible Astronaut A Town Called Mercy </poll>
Best companion exit
Almost as moving as the regeneration of a Doctor is the departure of a companion. Which of these televised ends hit you the hardest?
<poll> Which companion had the best farewell? Rose Martha Donna Jo Sarah Susan </poll>
Best TV story
There are a ton of ways to have chosen a list of the best Doctor Who stories. We've cheated and used most of the top of Doctor Who Magazine's list from 2009, with a few from Matt Smith's era sprinkled in.
<poll> What's the best televised story? City of Death The Talons of Weng-Chiang The Caves of Androzani Inferno The War Games The Five Doctors Blink Genesis of the Daleks The Empty Child The Waters of Mars The Eleventh Hour Vincent and the Doctor The Day of the Doctor The Doctor's Wife Midnight </poll>
Rabid
And now for the tough stuff. Just how well do you actually know your Doctor Who history? If you think you know the past of your favourite programme, please play through.
Best woman working for the Beeb
First up is a real doozy. Doctor Who is famous for having had a woman at the helm at the start of both major eras of the programme. And that's a great thing. But, when trying to assess which woman you think made the greatest overall contribution it's also a difficult thing.
Lorraine Heggessey
Controller of BBC One who got the ball rolling with the 2005 version of Doctor Who.Verity Lambert
The show's original producer.Jane Tranter
Head of BBC Drama who commissioned the 2005 version, as well as TorchwoodJulie Gardner
Co-equal With Russell T Davies, the show's most prolific producer.Delia Derbyshire
Effective creator of the show's theme tune.Biddy Baxter
Longtime Blue Peter chief. Promoted Doctor Who hardcore for over two decades. Preserved key lost clips, like the first regeneration.
<poll> Which of these women do you think has made the greatest contribution to Doctor Who history? Lorraine Heggessey Verity Lambert Jane Tranter Julie Gardner Delia Derbyshire Biddy Baxter </poll>
Best modern director
And now something for the film buffs. Directors have come and gone over the years, but a few have done such high profile work, they've gotten noticed by even a few casual observers. Because it wouldn't be fair to compare the modern series with the 20th century version, though, lets just concentrate on finding the best BBC Wales director:
<poll> Who directed Who best? Toby Haynes Graeme Harper Euros Lyn Nick Hurran Adam Smith Alice Troughton </poll>
Best audio
Not everyone knows that much about audio Doctor Who. But those who listen to it generally are pretty passionate about it. So for those in our community who care about audio, this question: what's the best of all time?
- DW123.png
- To the Death.png
- A-Death-in-the-Family-cover.png
- The Architects of History.png
<poll> Which audio reigns supreme? Dead Air Spare Parts The Chimes of Midnight Jubilee The Holy Terror The One Doctor The Company of Friends To the Death A Death in the Family Davros The Architects of History Circular Time </poll>
Your turn
Maybe you think something should have been nominated that wasn't. Perhaps you need to cry foul on the categories that were chosen. Or maybe you just want to talk about how difficult it was to make a choice. Feel free to use the space below to add to the conversation.
As always though, play nice and attack the point, not the person!

Personally, I feel Zagreus should be in the Category of Best Audio Drama. I would have voted for it if it was. The plot, the story, the power, the drama, not to mention it is the 40th Anniversary Special, and the brilliant voice acting all combine to make it an amazing story that is unforgettable.
- CzechOut
Interesting! The best of audio list was largely based upon "Top Rated Stories" list at thetimescales.com, where Zagreus gets decidedly mixed reviews. For everyone who, like you, believes it's a 10/10, there are those who believe it's a 3/10 or worse. I was, however, very tempted to put its predecessor, Neverland, on the list — and felt a real pang of choice between To the Death and Dark Eyes. In the end, though, the Eighth Doctor had his fair share of nominations.
- 115.188.92.60
Inferno needs more votes. Much more.
- Kiwifluffy1
I think the Gallifrey audio series should be there, too- it isn't the main range, but it's REALLY good. Zagreus is really good too, and so is Neverland, and Dark Eyes is awesome... Why do I have to choose!
- Dragonmaster79
I'm enjoying the "Jago and Litefoot" audio series right now. Might have been worth a mention. My personal favourite TV story was "The Ark In Space", also not nominated. Plus I thought about voting for Jo Grant's exit as the best, if just to see the back of her.

I'm surprised that Martha and Donna's departures are on here but the Ponds' aren't.I thought Amy and Rory had by far the best executed departure of any companion in the revived series.
Oh well, if I can't vote for them, I'll just vote for Susan.
- Mewiet
If Eight's regeneration had been an option, I would have voted that as best regeneration.
- 163.1.112.19
I agree that Amy and Rory had the best companion departure.
- 220.239.251.201
Even though I am not talking about the same thing as all of you, I believe that there should have been a category for Doctor Who books because there are a lot of those in shops
- CzechOut
That's a good point, but we wanted to keep these initial awards to largely televised Doctor Who, since we wanted to attract a diverse number of respondents.
Largely in deference to the number of Tardis members who had requested categories about non-televised Doctor Who, we did include a question about audios — but as you can see, this question is only about half as popular as the televised questions. Still, it's Big Finish's 15th anniversary of doing Doctor Who audios, and they deserve a little love!

It was in a thread! Not in a page!
- CzechOut
Variety3251 wrote: It was in a thread! Not in a page!
Ahhh, I see. Yes, there are two technical things at work here, both of which are long-standing community decisions.
In the first place, we long ago decided not to employ article comments — which appear at the bottom of pages — but instead to keep the somewhat "old schooL" talk pages. That means that if we put this awards programme on a normal page, people would have to go to a physically separate page to comment on it. That's obviously undesirable.
In the second, we voted to close our blog feature some years ago, largely because it was attracting much more spam than interesting comment. The blog namespace has the advantage of allowing comments under the initial post, even though you haven't enabled article comments generally.
So with both of these features eliminated, the best spot for these awards on the wiki is a forum thread. In fact, it's not really so different from a blog post at all, and quoting other people is maybe slightly easier. Certainly it's a lot easier to attract people's attention to a thread than to a blog post, because you can highlight the thread, but not the blog post.

To be honest, I think that "Day of the Doctor" was a bit overrated here. Not saying it's a bad episode - far from it, I think it was the best we could have hoped for from a 50th-anniversary episode; while I was skeptical about there being only two Doctors featuring prominently, I think Moffat made the right choice there, and all of the nods to the classic series were handled beautifully.
Personally, though, I would argue that Genesis of the Daleks was a far more powerful episode, trumping it in terms of story and especially in terms of how the villains were handled. For one thing, it was a lot grittier and more realistic, and made the Daleks a very credible threat - which is more than Moffat's ever done with them, to be honest. That was one of my main problems with "Day of the Doctor" - for a Time "War", we didn't really see much exterminating on-screen. Sure, you got ships firing on cities, but in order to make a villain threatening, you have to show them killing PERSONALLY - and for all the times the Daleks squawked "exterminate" in that episode (and every other Moffat Dalek episode), not ONCE did we see them actually shoot and kill someone. They usually just stand around talking about their plans only to all be blown up by the Doctor for one big happy ending.
That's why Genesis was more powerful and thought-provoking than "Day of the Doctor" - not only did it portray a more in-depth look at war, but it also subverted our expectations and made us question who was right and who was wrong.

There is no article named "Can we PLEASE take dead air off the audio list. It's an absolute joke thats winning over the cream of the big finish crop. It's just new series fans, that have never heard an audio voting for the one with a new series doctor on the cover
- CzechOut
Don't forget that Dead Air is an award-winning audio. It won Best Audiobook of the Year in 2010 by the patrons of The Audiobook Store in Britain, in which it was in competition against non-Doctor Who material. It beat out "proper" literature, such as a recent recording of Animal Farm and The Cellist of Sarajevo and War Horse, not to mention non-fiction like Andrew Marr's The Making of Modern Britain.[1] So if consumers of audiobooks are recognising it as a great work, it's reasonable that it go on the list. If you haven't heard it, you're missing out on a truly stunning single-person audiobook performance by Tennant.

Thanks for all your suggestions of categories! It's good to see that you care enough to comment! Unfortunately, we had to draw the line at ten awards categories, otherwise the post would have never gotten published! We tried to choose from the suggestions that had been made at our planning thread, so that a wide range of people's thoughts were included.
TheReturnOfTheKing wrote: ... was the 7th Doctor one seriously an option, or just a joke?
If you mean the "best regeneration" category, yeah, it was a serious option. After all, it is an unusually long farewell, and a major part of the plot of that story.
And — read this how you will — I know I for one stood up and applauded when the Seventh Doctor got shot.
I think it's one of the few regenerations that actually says something interesting about the outgoing incarnation. I mean, Seven is known for his multilevelled, brinksmanship kind of thinking, but then he's simply gunned down upon exiting the TARDIS. And as if that weren't ironic enough, the Doctor is then killed by a doctor. It's a far cry from Planet of the Spiders, where the most fearless of the Doctors makes up some guff about having to "face [my] fears" — including a hitherto unmentioned phobia of spiders. It's also far more interesting than Six's demise or Two simply being adjudicated to death.
To my mind, Seven's death is the most realistic of the lot, barring One's passage due to old age. It's something that really should happen far more often. The TARDIS should materialise at the wrong place and time more often, and the Doctor's latter-day smugness about the dangers outside the door should be met with more disaster than it is.

79.112.215.48 wrote: Why no Jack? He's my favorite companion from the new series. I guess I'll have to vote for Rose then.
Like all awards events, some good choices go un-nominated. Why? Because the very point of nomination is to narrow down a list. Our nominations here were for the "major" companions — i.e. those whose actors appeared in the pre-titles sequence for at least a whole series.
Jack is a fairly minor character, in those terms. Heck, Jackie is in more episodes than Jack.

By 'adjucated to death', do you mean 'killed by robot ſcarecrowſ'? And the Firſt Doctor died of old age and the energy drain. Although, the Warrior did die from a combination of old age and exaustion from the laſt Great Time War.

Big problem here: seems majority of voters are only familiar with the current series and not the classic - how can anyone vote on a favorite episode or whatnot when they haven't seen more than half of the ones mentioned? People are only going to vote for what they have seen and that is much too limited. Also - why the need to single out a female contributor? There are plenty more than the ones mentioned here (though, sadly, not too many more) - though it would be nice if more were able to make more contributions, like writing and directing. Only one female director and one female writer in all the years the show has been back on? Considering what a role women have made in making sure Doctor Who stays on the air, it makes it look all the more like a boys-only club and that, too, is much too limited.
- Dezzyy
Yay, 200th vote on Eleventh's regeneration. Honestly, it had the biggest build up and bang to me. Ten is so close! 2 votes away! Deserved, if you ask me, they were both great. ^-^

What happens when you take one part Kronkburger and one part Shepherd's pie? You get Shepherd's Kronk. Or maybe you get Kronk pie. Point is, you get a Frankenfood — and Wikia wants to know about it.
Why? So we can have a bit of Fantasy Food fun over at the Recipes Wiki!
Just take one food or beverage from the DWU, add it to one food or beverage from the real world, give it a name that includes parts of both comestibles, and leave your submission below. We'll make sure that our good friend Ari, who helped us with last year's 50th anniversary viewing party menu, gets your message.
If your entry is chosen, a Wikia designer will create an image of your Frankenfood and put it alongside winning submissions from other wikis around the Wikia network in one of our Guided Tours. It'll be great publicity for Tardis and a bit of creative fun for you!

Im surprised that Big Finish didn't win the best audio award. Dead Air was fine, but nobody can make Doctor Who audio like Big Finish.
- Mewiet
Replying to a comment made at the end of the last thread:
"Only one female director and one female writer in all the years the show has been back on? Considering what a role women have made in making sure Doctor Who stays on the air, it makes it look all the more like a boys-only club and that, too, is much too limited."
Only one female writer, but there have been three female directors in NuWho: the first was Hettie MacDonald who directed Blink in S3, the second was Alice Troughton with The Sontaran Stratagem / The Poison Sky two-parter in S4, and the most recent was Catherine Morshead who directed Amy's Choice and The Lodger in S5. Troughton was just the one female director included on that particular list in the poll.
There's no excuse for more women not being involved though. The female voices, perspectives, and experiences are just as important important as the males'.
- Tybort
Alice Troughton directed The Doctor's Daughter, Midnight and a number SJA and Torchwood episodes. Douglas Mackinnon was the director of the Sontaran two-parter.
- Rob T Firefly
I can only assume Ten accepted that best-dressed award on behalf of Six, who was too busy being a style icon to attend some little awards ceremony.
- Tce
I'd be intrigued to know how many of the 173 people who voted for Dead Air as best audio have actually listened to any of the other audios in the poll, or even listened to Dead Air. Looks like a stark case of Tennantitis.
- CzechOut
More Dead Air hate? I will say again that it's an award-winning audiobook. Tennant's voice work is superb. He captures a dizzying array of characters with recognisable, and in some cases exquisite, detail.
Were it stacked up against other single-performer audiobooks, and people really listened to what Tennant was doing, I don't think there would be any question it's just about the best-performed audiobook they'd ever heard. Don't forget: its award comes from being judged against stuff that wasn't even Doctor Who — Tennant won against other great audiobook readers performing works of "proper" literature, as well as "serious" non-fiction.
In my view, the only unusual thing about the poll is not that Dead Air was competitive, but that it won such a convincing plurality.
Please do not cast aspersions on other users simply because the vote didn't go your — or even Big Finish's — way. Dead Air's victory in no way de-legitimises anyone else's work; it only celebrates the relevancy of a particular form of audio work.
Any audio poll is always going to be problematic because a number of users won't have had the ability — either because of finances or local availability of the title — to have collected all the audios. The majority of voters are almost certainly not going to have heard every nominee. So even if some other title had won, the question would remain: "I wonder if everyone who voted listened to all the nominees?"
One factor you're not considering is that Dead Air was both significantly cheaper and massively more available to a greater number of people around the world than any Big Finish product. Thus it's possible that one of the reasons that it won so handsomely was precisely because more people had heard it.
So please don't make it seem like this vote is illegitimate — or, worse, that there is something wrong with the people who participated — because a Tennant title won. Thats's sailing a little close to a personal attack — and this was just meant to be a bit of fun.
And remember this. In my experience of hearing people talk about Big Finish, there are a wide range of answers to the question, "What's your favourite Big Finish play?" The poll results confirm this ambiguity.
See, Dead Air won by a large plurality — not a majority. Big Finish as a whole got 56% of the vote. But people couldn't agree on which one title was the best.
And indeed, with rare exception, that's the way all multi-nominee awards are. Whether you're talking the Oscars® or our little Golden TARDIS Awards, almost no winner sails to victory with an actual majority of votes. Only one of our ten questions had a clear, majority winner — most of our respondents do feel that the Daleks are the best returning adversary from the old series.
In other words, almost all of these awards can also be interpreted as a victory for the collective of the nominees that didn't win. And in that sense, more people prefer the full-cast audio work of Big Finish to Tennant's lone-man effort.

I hope you didn't think I was saying that the vote was unfair, or that anybody was wrong to vote for Dead Air. Dead Air was one of the best things that AudioGo has done, and a perfectly legitimate choice for the best Doctor Who audio drama, but I was still surprised that it won.

Hey everybody!
We recently got a general invitation to be a part of the podcast, Desert Island Who. Very much like Desert Island Discs, the idea is that on each episode, a guest talks about the
- 8 Doctor Who TV stories
- 1 Doctor Who book
- 1 piece of other DW merchandise
that they would take with them to a desert island as their only pieces of entertainment.
This invitation is open to anyone who is a part of our community, and they'll definitely take more than just one person.
The interview will take place over Skype and so will likely require interviewees to have a reliable internet connection and reasonable quality microphone.
If you're interested in participating and representing this wiki on audio, please put your names below. Someone from Desert Island Who will be monitoring this thread and replying.
I urge everyone who's got a mic and a Skype account to jump on this opportunity. It sounds like a lot of fun!
- Gallifrey102
This does sound like a lot of fun! Good thing I just upgraded my provider. Count me in!
(I'm assuming you want my Skype name, which is Gallifrey102. If that's not what you meant, just let me know. :))
- PicassoAndPringles
I'd love a chance to participate. The hardest part will be picking just eight episodes. :)
- DesertIslandWho
Great to have already have two great replies! Well once you have your lists then email them to [email protected] and we'll get back to you with a suggested time and date to record the podcast.
Thanks,
Desert Island Who.

How about we let the person in charge of the game decide if substitutions can be made.

Hey there Whovians!
In preparation for the next season of Doctor Who, we have the ultimate Gallifreyan-themed menu for you to prepare for all of your friends. Enjoy!
The Alzarians would approve of this refreshing appetizer. Serve this summer fruit salad made with Riverfruit (hehe okay fine, it's really watermelon).
You could very well serve Fish fingers and custard to your friends, but just in case they don't like dipping fish fingers in custard as much as the doctor does- serve them these flaky parmesan, garlic crusted fish fingers.
You can't have fish without the chips! Make these homemade crisps to serve with your main meal.
Just like the doctor, your friends should be allowed at least some (or all) chocolate cake as a reward. This rich chocolate dessert will have your friends asking for seconds (and thirds!).
Of course, tea is a key beverage in Dr. Who, so serve up this "Marteani". Use Darjeeling tea or Earl Grey tea, per the doctor's choice, along with some hypervodka.

Since I don't drink alcohol, I created a River's Red Setting Virgin Sonic Screwdriver a while back:
- 1 Cup of Orange Juice
- 2/3 Cup of Pineapple Juice
- 1/3 Cup of Coconut Water (optional)
- 1/3 Cup of Grenadine
- Maraschino Cherries to taste (optional but highly recommended)A warning: it's a very (hello) sweet(ie) drink!

Season 8 premiered in 1971.
I do know what you mean, though.

Don't forget Custard with the fish fingers and the time lord cocktail which has (Watermelon, lemonade, strawberries, Aprioct and mango).
- Waterdrops
My friends and I had a toast with fish fingers and vanilla pudding (since my friend is allergic to egg) and later we made adipose out of marshmallows.
- 74.39.200.49
Make it a "Riverfruit and Adipose" salad by adding square chunks of Mozzarella!

There's only a few more days until Doctor Who returns to our screens, and it's a time for all Doctor Who fans to get excited about the new content, new information, and new stories that will be presented to us so soon. You can feel the excitement rising here as the counter on the front page slowly ticks down to zero, and editors wait to jump on the create button as soon as the credits roll. However, I would like to inform you of another wiki which is also counting down the seconds until series 8 with impatience. That is the Doctor Who Answers Wiki, the answers wiki dedicated to Doctor Who and its spin-offs in all media.
As you here present articles, we present answers to all the burning questions others have about the Whoniverse. Think of it like the Reference Desk here, except about a thousand times bigger (well, about 220 times bigger, but who's counting?). Like here, we allow information from just about any licensed story set in the Doctor Who Universe, but our answers tend to be more short-form and specific compared to the long, broad articles found here. However, this allows people to ask about information from interesting perspectives, allowing a different look into the world of Doctor Who (and its spin-offs, of course). So while we cover practically the same areas of Doctor Who as this wiki, we provide a very different editing experience.
There are many editing opportunities to be had at Doctor Who Answers. Many new questions are asked each day which need answering, rephrasing, and categorising, and more still in our question archive which need the same treatment, along with editing those old answers to improve them and add citations. Experts in the non-TV stories are especially needed, as most of the current editors are fairly TV-focused and it would be beneficial to have more information from other sources added to answers to expand them. Whether you're a Doctor Who expert or a relative newbie, there is something for everyone to do at Doctor Who Answers!
So what are you waiting for?
Some questions you might find interesting:
- Has the Sixth Doctor ever worn a blue suit in the TV series or is it just in the audio adventures?
- Why is the Dalek self destruct different in Asylum of the Daleks than in the episode Dalek?
- What song was playing during the regeneration scene from the Tenth to the Eleventh Doctor?
- In which episode was it stated that the Doctor can regenerate over five hundred times?
- Is John Lumic the alternate reality version of Davros?
Note: I am aware that some users here had a bad experience with DWA in the past, but I would like to mention that since then, the admin team has completely changed along with our attitude, and we would love to welcome back all the old users who previously left us.

With Torchwood out of the picture, they should create a new series about an organization that deals with extraterrestrial and the paranormal. The series needs that perspective of earthlings dealing with the Whoniverse.
I think that Clara Oswald would be a excellent addition. Maybe she could do this when she leaves the doctor.

Hey Wikia Superfans! Are you going to San Diego Comic-Con this year? Wikia is going to have a big presence at the convention this year, and we want as many Wikia users involved as possible. Last year I got to be part of the Wikia Fan Express and we got all sorts of perks like sneak peaks and access to products that hadn't been released to the public yet. That's not even counting the awesome swag (like a pirate, not a trendy youth) and cool prizes!
I know there's going to be a big Doctor Who presence at the con this year, so we're hoping to see you fans turning out. Wikia is giving out collectibles, VIP perks, and party tickets to Wikia users who show up this year. It's going to be sweet. You will also get access to our massive scavenger hunt which has its own prizes. There is so much great free stuff, and all you have to do is sign up to let us know you're coming.

Every year, Wikia hosts a good, old-fashioned food fight! And unbelievably, it's that time again. We scour various fandoms for the very best food they have to offer — and pit them against each other.
The result? One hell of a mess. But a fun one.
So grab your whisks and head on over to the nominations form, bringing with you the best food from the Doctor Who universe!
Oh, and guys: let's just assume that fish fingers and custard has already been nominated, yeah? Dig deep, people, dig deep! And move quick: we only have until the 29th of July to get the DWU in this fight!

Hey, North Americans! How would you like to see the Series 8 finale all over again — in 3D, and in a cinema? If so, make sure you head on over to the Fathom Events page to pick up your tickets!
They went on sale at midnight Eastern on the 31st of July, so be sure to check the Fathom map as soon as you can.
In addition to the unique chance to view Dark Water and Death in Heaven in never-before-seen 3D, you'll also get an exclusive series 9 prequel scene, as well as a new interview with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman!
This event only happens on the 15th and 16th of September — and in some locations only on one date or the other. So mark your calendars, get your tickets, and rewatch the end of the last series before the new series starts on the 19th!

Hey all!
Although we don't deal in fan fiction on this wiki, I just wanted to make sure you were aware of an exciting new competition that the BBC launched today. They're asking for digital submissions surrounding the Twelfth Doctor (yes, the Capaldi Twelve) in a specific scenario.
Launching as part of the BBC's Make it Digital campaign, which encourages people to experiment with coding, programming and digital technology, the new Mission Dalek challenges fans to put together their own stories featuring Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor, bringing him into conflict with his most persistent nemeses. Exactly how he gets there is left entirely up to you, with the BBC providing an almost entirely blank slate. The broadcaster says "there’s no need to know about the upcoming episodes, except they involve the Time Lord taking on the mighty Daleks."
Would-be creators can use clips and images provided by the BBC, or shoot their own footage. Content can include new, original aliens, or feature existing Doctor Who enemies, such as Missy, the Cybermen, or -- of course -- the Daleks themselves. For anyone unsure where to start, there are tutorials in digital content creation available on the site.
In practise, it seems there is a bit more structure to the contest place than the BBC makes out. The main site leads with a starting description for the lead-in, which indicates what sort of stories are being sought. It reads: "Lost in space and time without his TARDIS, the Doctor is trying to make contact. The only clues as to where he is are in his 2000 Year Diary, located in the TARDIS Core. Use these clues to create your very own #MissionDALEK adventure to tell us how the Doctor comes face-to face with the Daleks once again."
Note that, while people from all over the world are invited to submit their work, only people who are 16 and older, and legal residents of the UK, can actually win the prize: a visit to the DW set in Wales to meet with Peter Capaldi himself.
Want more details? Go to the official site!

- Gallifrey102
If the BBC are organising this, does that make it licensed? Presumably, if they select a winning entry, and post it on-line, it's a valid story to feature on this wiki, regardless of continuity status?
- SPNtotalfan123
Scuse me? I don't understand a bit of what you said.
- CzechOut
Gallifrey102 wrote: If the BBC are organising this, does that make it licensed? Presumably, if they select a winning entry, and post it on-line, it's a valid story to feature on this wiki, regardless of continuity status?
I was kinda hoping no one asked this question, because this event is meant to just be a bit of creative fun. It shouldn't matter to one's enjoyment of it whether this wiki finds it valid.
But.
The competition is a part of a larger BBC initiative to get kids to code and otherwise use the digital medium. Unlike previous competitions, where kids have written scripts, and then the BBC has produced those scripts, these scripts will not be produced by any part the BBC. They are being solicited and published as fan fiction. Additionally, the fine print on the competition is that the contributors will grant the BBC a non-exclusive license, without remuneration, to feature the stories wherever the BBC want.
Therefore, unless something changes by the time the winner is announced, T:NO FANFIC will still apply, inasmuch as this wiki is concerned. It's still amateur fiction, even if the franchise copyright holders are organising an event around it.
Put a simpler way: yes, these films will have the Twelfth Doctor in it, and we're meant to understand that it's the same Twelve that's played by Peter Capaldi. But they won't star Peter Capaldi. And no one is getting paid for them. So they're exactly the same as all those other videos on YouTube that people make in their spare time.
- Digifiend
Rob T Firefly wrote: This is funny considering they still have a policy online which forbids the publishing of fanfic.
Looks like that needs updating. Several questions refer to Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman's agency. They need to add Capaldi's.

A new series of Doctor Who is only a couple of days away. You watch as the clock counts down the hours, the minutes, the seconds until the TARDIS comes vrooping back onto your screen. You feel as if the Time Lords are teasing you by drawing out the time until you can be delighted by new adventures with your favourite time traveller. Oh, what can you possibly do to satisfy your cravings for Doctor Who as you wait for its return to your screen? Tardis Dara Core can only take up so much of your time.

As we all know, there are 97 lost episodes from the First and Second Doctors. Picking the episodes that have 75% or more missing, which ones would you like to see recovered?
- Mister Fifty
I'll go first. For me, it's a toss up between The Power of the Daleks and The Highlanders.
It would be amazing to see the first episode of the Second Doctor; watching him try to convince Polly and Ben that he's the same man and facing off against the Daleks.
On the other hand, to watch Jamie's first episode and see him join the TARDIS crew would also be amazing.
Can only hope (keeping fingers crosses and wishing very hard) that both of these wonderful episode turn up some day.

I don't think the Weeping Angels are against the Shadow Kin. It seemed like they were trying to use them. Remember, Weeping Angels can only move when they aren't being seen so covering the world in shadows would have been a brilliant thing for them to do.
