• 13 July - Maria Jackson broke free of the Trickster's Graske servant and arrived on this date. A few minutes later, thirteen-year-old Sarah Jane Smith's best friend Andrea Yates fell off a pier and drowned. The Trickster appeared and coaxed Andrea to switch places with Sarah Jane, creating an alternate timeline where she died instead. After spending over forty years in the altered timeline, Andrea revoked her deal with the Trickster and allowed herself to perish once again, restoring the original course of the timeline. • The Labour Party defeated the Conservatives in the United Kingdom general election. The former's leader Harold Wilson became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, succeeding Sir Alec Douglas-Home. James Callaghan was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer. (AUDIO: State of Emergency)
• A German U-boat which was patrolling the English Channel in 1943 was sent forward in time to this year, where it threatened to torpedo the Isle of Wight ferry. Sir Toby Kinsella of the Intrusion Countermeasures Group ordered Group Captain Ian Gilmore and his squad to investigate and render assistance to the personnel of the nearby Lanchester Naval Base. • An aeroplane which left New York City with a crew of eleven and hundreds of passengers landed in London with no one aboard, not even the pilot. The matter was investigated by Professor Rachel Jensen of the Intrusion Countermeasures Group. (AUDIO: State of Emergency)
• Foxgrove was demolished to make way for the A7665 motorway. (TV: The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith)
• The Fourth Doctor visited St Cedd's College at Cambridge. (HOMEVID: Shada)
• An archaeological dig in Alaska led by Tulung's father accidentally unearthed a Permian fossil. It revived and attacked them. While Shaun Brett's father fled, Tulung's father used dynamite to destroy the creature. The plane carrying Brett nearly collided with the TARDIS, which had materialised in mid-air immediately before travelling to 1994. (AUDIO: The Land of the Dead)

• 22 January - In an alternative timeline, U.S. President John F. Kennedy would have started a nuclear war on this date if he had not been assassinated on 22 November 1963. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy)

• 13 July - In another alternative timeline created by the Trickster, Sarah Jane Smith drowned and Andrea lived. This was undone by Andrea in 2008, once she realised the results of what she had done. (TV: Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?)

• Moris Farhi submitted a six-episode script entitled Farewell Great Macedon and a single-episode script entitled The Fragile Yellow Arc of Fragrance. Neither were produced, but both would be published in 2009 and were adapted for Big Finish Productions' The Lost Stories range in 2010.

• A recording of the Doctor Who theme by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop was released on a 45 rpm single. This was the earliest noted release of any soundtrack music from the series.
• Another recording of the Doctor Who theme, this time by Eric Winstone and his Orchestra, was also released on Pye Records, and was probably the first non-BBC recording of the theme to be issued.

• 14 - "Crisis" (TV: Planet of Giants Episode 3) was first broadcast.
• 14 - Radio Times again featured a cover story on Doctor Who, this time announcing the much-anticipated return of the Daleks in TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth.
• 14 - The Doctor Who comic strip made its debut in the 674th issue of TV Comic, with the comic The Klepton Parasites.
• 21 - "World's End" (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth Episode 1) was first broadcast. For the first time, a Doctor Who episode featured extensive location filming and brought back a previously seen monster. It was also the first story to incorporate widely known London landmarks (despite being set in the future).
• 28 - "The Daleks" (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth Episode 2) was first broadcast.

• Its original 20,000-copy print run already sold out, PROSE: Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks went into a second printing.
• Doctor Who entered the pop music leagues when a Newcastle girl group called The Go-Go's (no relation to the American group of the 1980s) released the single "I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek". Perhaps coincidentally, the Dalek story underway at this time would run through Christmas.
• 05 - "Day of Reckoning" (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth Episode 3) was first broadcast.
• 12 - "The End of Tomorrow" (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth Episode 4) was first broadcast.
