Butetown was a district in Cardiff, approximate to Tiger Bay.
In the mid 20th century, Butetown was smoke-filled with confined narrow streets. Its proximity to the docks meant that its brothels and pubs were frequented by dockworkers, sailors, waifs and "strays from every corner of the globe". Butetown was home to immigrants from countries including Italy, China and Ireland. The immigrants who called Butetown home included the family of Michael Bellini. (PROSE: Trace Memory)
It was also home to Tom Flanagan - an evacuee of the London Blitz - who lived there with his daughter Eleri. (TV: Ghost Machine)
In 2009, a pack of Grolon rats infested the area, killing at least one person. (PROSE: The Undertaker's Gift)
The Ship and Pilot, West Bute Street and the Coal Exchange were located in Butetown. (PROSE: Trace Memory)
Harrowby Street and Harrowby Lane were located south of Butetown. (PROSE: Bay of the Dead)
