This prompted [[Forum:Addition of 'Pricing' to the Magazine Infobox]], as discussed above. (I greatly appreciate that someone mentioned to Tangerine that Kylie Minogue was going to be returning as the Rani on his talk page and he seemed to get annoyed and delete it.)

[[Forum:Infobox suggestions]] - Oh, wow, massive discussion here. We can't really see some of the test inboxes at the beginning, but clearly anyone who wants to redesign infoboxes needs to read this thread. (Though I believe at this point we've implemented most of these ideas as Czech noted we likely would at the end.) Further discussion relevant to this is located at [[User talk:CzechOut/Archive 1#Comic strip infobox!]], [[Talk: Infobox TV test]], [https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:The_Librarian?oldid=205495#Comic_infoboxes here], [https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:Stardizzy2#template:infobox_Comic here], [[Talk: Infobox TV test]] and [[Forum:Proposal - Revert Comic Infobox]]. <!--And [https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:Tangerineduel?oldid=206921#You_are_KIDDING_me here].-- > Probably a foundational text for infobox discussions, even if outdated. And I do appreciate that Czech's proposal, and this foundational reference for infobox discussions forever more, contains a juvenile joke and choice of website. As a coda there's also [[Tardis talk:Infobox development 2009 to 2011/Archive 1]].

[[Forum:Doctor Who Novelisations - canon or not?]] - Outdated, but relevant. Of particular note because in the Before Times when it wasn't easy to get access to recordings of the classic series they used the novelizations for reference in writing novels, which we considered non-canon.

[[Forum:Web comics]] - A discussion that would rear its head more recently in a very divisive manner. Related to Rule 2 concerns for [[T:VS]] broadly speaking, what does it mean to have a "commercial license"? You have professional creators who are using licensed concepts who were directly commissioned by the BBC, even if the license under question is a broad one under which they also licensed fan work. It's a dodgy issue. See also [https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:Tangerineduel/Archive_-_Wiki_formatting#Writers_Comics here] and [https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:23skidoo#BBC_Writers'_Comics here] for a discussion of how this relates more broadly to fan work.

[[Forum:BBC Video vs. BBC DVD]] - I mean, this isn't ''amazing'', but we don't have a ton of policies on corporate structure even though some of our real world pages actively depend on it, so any discussion I can find on it bears mentioning.

[[Talk:The Darksmith Legacy]] - Of minor note because of concerns of hosting potentially copyrighted material as well as considerations as what the wiki hosts that encourages people to buy the product / simply documents things for later vs actually discourages people. Also highlights how our understanding of The Howling as a forum has evolved.

[[User talk:23skidoo#Canon]] - Some references to [[T:NPOV]] and [[T:EVIL TWIN]]. At this point NPOV had largely solidified as much as it was going to in the pre-valid sources days, I suspect, so that's not surprising. It also gestures towards the "according to one account" terminology we use today as early as the very end of 2009, though with slightly different wording. ''However'', [https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:Tangerineduel?oldid=278284#Canon the story] the two are discussing is one of the comic maker comics. Which were later very definitively declared invalid. The comments here make this issue more interesting.

[[Talk:The mighty 200]] - I guess maybe giving a clear ruling that individual features in DWM don't get pages? Yeah, I'm stretching. Look, not every old talk page can be a winner. But we should still be able to read them!

[[Forum:Character information on novels, etc]] - Oh my God, this was near incomprehensible without looking at the pages referenced in the time frame. It's premised on a way of writing articles that just doesn't exist anymore. ([https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Happy_Endings_(novel)?oldid=303507 EG]) Absolutely disgusting, great change. See also [[Forum:Should novels & audio stories have a plot description?]], which established that novels and audios ''should'' have plot sections - when up until 2011 they didn't. That and lack of editors willing to write them explains why so many are empty.

Revision as of 22:36, 25 February 2024

Trying to do a bit of a historical dive into forums/talk pages and flesh out what is important and for why. Might be subjective, but hopefully I can figure out what might give some insight into what other people care about. GAAAAHHH people didn't archive talk pages in the early days. They just deleted them. Makes things hard to find.

Threads, 2012

Forum:Searching is undergoing a massive, Wikia-driven change - Not sure if this workaround is still possible, but wiki search still is awful.

Forum:Tables need headers - Some helpful discussion of tables for newer users.

Forum:EVERYONE READ: Some infobox variables being upgraded to SMW links - Helpful discussion of SMW for users who don't toy with it.

Forum:Color/font coding of namespaces - Project has been completely abandoned. But I think the archivist note here has some ideas that we might want to revist for the BTS namespaces.

Forum:ST/DW crossover comic: technical naming restrictions - Tiny discussion surrounding coordination with other wikis wrt crossover products. Not even a real discussion.

Forum:New spoiler screen - Outmoded, but we might want to try it again?

Forum:Twitter feed - We absolutely no longer have access to this account, and we have a new one.

Forum:All admin please read Help:Blocking - Discussion of the origin of the unblocking procedures, might need an update, idk.

Forum:Are the Invisible Enemy clones characters in their own right? - Restatement of the continuity of consciousness approach to identity that was developed wrt, I believe, Auton Rory?

Forum:'In character' appearances by the Doctor - Statement as far back as 2012 that breaking the 4th wall may be kosher for stories being valid.

Forum:First appearance of the sun and the moon - Doesn't apply to a ton of issues, but a bit of discussion of what to do when topics touch on things that might be impacted by the missing episodes, if we know that the missing episodes would likely change the statements we put on this wiki.

Forum:Audio Visuals - Discussion of having pages for notable fan works.

Forum:Disambiguation: Omegas - Discussion of some of our disambiguation rules and when things stop needing to be dabbed.

Forum:Distant past/Far future categories - Should probably reopen, these terms are super vague.

Forum:Doctor Who prefix in titles - Establishes that we should remove the "Doctor Who" prefix from titles that have it, usually.

Forum:Foreshadowing section on Doctors pages - /Laughs maniacally/ Vortex butterflies will meet its end.

Forum:Leela Audio Story category - Some discussion of why we don't have story categories for each character/group, not sure how much we're actually doing with SMW and how much these plans stalled.

Forum:Prefix simplification - Another one of those threads that has massive impacts in a variety of different ways. Necessary reading.

Forum:Reference books - what do we cover? - Some discussion of references books/criticism/analysis, doesn't go anywhere.

Forum:References to BFDWU as alternate or diverging timeline - Outdated, but one of the old discussions about Unbound being invalid.

Talk pages, 2012

Talk:P.S. (webcast)/Archive 1 - Outdated, but relevant to discussions about deleted scenes.
