Doctor Who: A Celebration was a special concert performed in order to raise money for Children in Need 2006.

It was broadcast live from the Wales Millennium Centre on BBC Radio Wales on 19 November 2006 with commentary by Alan Thompson and Chris Corcoran.

A special 60 minute edition of Doctor Who Confidential called Music and Monsters was broadcast on television on BBC One on 25 December 2006, immediately afterwards a 90 minute edit of the concert ran on the BBC Red Button service. This edit was made avalible to view on the Doctor Who website from c. 24 January 2007.

A 40 minute edit was broadcast on television on BBC Two Wales on 31 March 2007.

During the extended 35 minute interval, as the preview of The Runaway Bride was not broadcast, BBC Radio Wales broadcast interviews with Murray Gold, Ben Foster and Clayton Hickman.

Synopsis[[edit] | [edit source]]

It was the very first Doctor Who-related concert, paving the way for Doctor Who at the Proms in years to come. Like the Doctor Who Proms to come, it featured a lead actor as a host (David Tennant), and Doctor Who monsters in prosthetics (Ood, Daleks, Clockwork Droids, Cyberman), on-stage and among the crowd.

Doctor Who: A Celebration featured the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Ben Foster, the BBC National Chorus of Wales, and performances by Melanie Pappenheim and Gary Williams.

As well as music from series 1 and 2, composed by Murray Gold, this concert also contained performances of "The Runaway Bride" and "Love Don't Roam" (sung by Gary Williams) from The Runaway Bride, which would not be released for another month. The former piece was performed alongside a preview of the car chase scene from the upcoming Christmas special.
