In a parallel universe, James T. Kirk was the captain the USS Enterprise in the 23rd century. A fictional version of Kirk also existed in the Doctor's universe.

On one occasion, the Eleventh Doctor recalled memories of his fourth incarnation meeting up with Kirk and the command crew of the USS Enterprise to combat a Cyberman invasion of Aprilia III. After Kirk had informed the Doctor that his communicator had a gold cover, he distracted the Cybermen until the Fourth Doctor used the gold to disable them. While the Doctor took his leave, Kirk checked on the staff, blissfully unaware that Cyberman coding still existed in the facility's systems. Following the Eleventh Doctor and the Enterprise-D defeating the cyber-web, the Doctor suspected that his encounter with Kirk had been erased from the timelines. Assimilation², of course, treats him as a "real" individual. It also shows that he exists only in another universe. It is thus possible that he is a character in the Doctor Who universe but a real man in the Star Trek universe.
