== Edit History? ==
== Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1? ==

CzechOut, this is a little trivial but I read the descriptions for all of the discussion boards and it didn't seem like my question was appropriate for any of them, even Help.
Hello!

My question is how can I see the edit history of a Page? I just can't find the option to view this, like you can under History on "the other wiki". Is this view only available to Admins? It seems like it would be pretty simple feature since lots of users refer to other people's edits or reverts of edits. But I can't find it. : ( [[User:Badwolff|Badwolff]] [[User talk:Badwolff|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 21:13, May 24, 2013 (UTC)
I know you have [[Sea creature (Thin Ice)|bigger fish]] to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — [[User:Najawin]] has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of [[User:DiSoRiEnTeD1]] for sockpuppetry.

: Thanks for the reply and instructions. Although a revert did just happen on a Howling thread where someone accidentally deleted some comments and the discussion had to be reverted. I guess it's an option there if you know what you're looking for! Thanks, again. [[User:Badwolff|Badwolff]] [[User talk:Badwolff|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 22:10, May 24, 2013 (UTC)
DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and [[User:OncomingStorm12th]], [[User:SOTO]] and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but ''not'' block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him.

== Photo License Accident ==
He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner [[User:Najawin]]) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on [[Talk:List of recurring Doctor Who concepts not owned by the BBC#Original Mammoths|the talk page I mentioned earlier]], because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions ''opposite'' to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion.
I was uploading a photo of River's diary and I think I accidentally forgot to add the license to it. I realized right after I clicked to add the photo, it should've been labeled as a Screencapture, and I've been trying to figure out how to correct the mistake but I haven't been able to find a way to add the license after the fact. I know the photos have to have one and it was just a stupid oversight on my part, so I wanted to let you know so it doesn't appear that I was intentionally trying to leave off the license. I'm hoping there's an easy way to fix it. [[User:Mewiet|Mewiet]] [[User talk:Mewiet|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 08:15, May 25, 2013 (UTC)

== Revealing dab terms in dab pages ==
So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what ''happened''? What precisely did he do? When? Where?
I'm a little bit confused about one aspect of your recent edits at [[Out of Time]]. Your edit summaries seem to imply that revealing dab terms is preferable, even though all the information in the term is then immediately revealed in more detail after the link. For example, in...
* [[Out of Time (CON episode)|''Out of Time'' (CON episode)]],  an episode of [[Doctor Who Confidential]] broadcast alongside ''[[The Big Bang]]''.
the dab term just gets repeated in fill sentence format. The same applies to the other two.

Now this is fine for out-of-universe lists like this. The problem ''really'' arises when you end up with something like this:
To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or ''questioning'' your decision; if he did indeed break [[T:SOCK]], there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes.
* [[Lucy (Human Nature)]] ([[PROSE]]: ''[[Human Nature (novel)|Human Nature]]'')
* [[Lucy (Evolution)]] ([[PROSE]]: ''[[Evolution (novel)|Evolution]]'')
* [[Lucy (Slow Decay)]] ([[PROSE]]: ''[[Slow Decay]]'')
* [[Lucy (Trace Memory)]] ([[PROSE]]: ''[[Trace Memory]]'')
* [[Lucy (The Vampires of Venice)]] ([[TV]]: ''[[The Vampires of Venice]]'')
* [[Lucy (Wishing Well)]] ([[PROSE]]: ''[[Wishing Well]]'')
* [[Lucy (The Ratings War)]] ([[AUDIO]]:'' [[The Ratings War]]'')
This is simply unreadable! Obviously, [[Lucy]] is not in such a state, but you seem to be implying that it should be. So is there a line to be drawn here, or do you truly believe that we should reveal all dab terms? If so, why?

(ps. somehow, this didn't post when I clicked publish almost a day ago. :/ )<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 16:29, May 25, 2013 (UTC)

I asked [[User:Tangerineduel]] for some Benny ideas and here's what he came up with:
Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing [[:Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls]], I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. When the edit completed a big message appeared about "change propagation" and the "job queue". I don't know enough about the code of MediaWiki to know what this really means, or if it will affect anything, but seeing as it appears important and you control the technical aspects of the wiki, I thought you should know. I hope it didn't mess up anything... [[User:Chubby Potato|Chubby Potato]] [[User talk:Chubby Potato|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

::It looks great! I think your idea of using images of different people is better than what I came up with. I just don't know Bernice very well.
I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. I noticed you moved the categories Skaro, Traken, and a few others to the "Society" category, rather than planets. I changed some of them back without really thinking about it, but I thought I should get your reasoning (does it have anything to do with planets being part of the Game of Rassilon now?) before I dug myself any further into a possible faux pas. :Gotcha'. I undid Traken and Skaro, but I'm a little hazy on Sol System planets. I mean with the other two, I get that recursion's a factor, and no other category really fits, but Sol System planets already has another category and could probably be put under Mutter's Spiral planets (which I'm having a hard time finding any recursion on). ==Navigation Help==
Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of ''not'' holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that ''your own'' quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought ''you'' had changed your mind about this. I have no particular ''wish'' that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought ''you'' were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.
I want to know how to set up the wiki navigation and the font on my wiki, UEFA Wiki. Here's a link http://uefa.wikia.com/wiki/UEFA_Wiki. I know it has something to do with the css but I want the code.
Thanks

== Re: DWM ==
:Really? I kind of remember you getting blocked temporarily for editing a MediaWiki page that was a long list of every piece of profanity that you could ever imagine. Did you rethink, and get rid of that page?
Just saw your message at [[User talk:LegoK9]]: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?
:Anyway, that's actually good news. I've had to refrain from adding things like Owen's ''amazingly'' complete definition of "fuck buddy" in fear of getting blocked by the abuse filter.
:--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 20:04, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
::I don't remember what it's called. If I did, I'd have linked you. But it was just a long paragraph of almost every single ''possible'' swear word and combination. I tried to find it through your block and abuse logs, but it didn't seem to be there. I do distinctly remember such a page. I'm positive that it was sometime in April, as it was after CBG (what happened to her?) triggered the filter at the beginning of the month, and before the page [[user:abuse filter]] was created at the end of it (it was a redlink at the time). --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 20:34, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

::::Lol. Probably. Okay, thank you for clearing that up. It's good to know that I can relay "bad words" into our articles from NAs and ''Torchwood''. --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 23:11, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

== Bad words ==
To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] [[User talk:Scrooge MacDuck|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Might as well put it under a new heading here too. Actually, here is the dialogue in which it comes up in ''[[Out of Time (TV story)|Out of Time]]'':
:Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of ''privacy''. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in ''[[Doctor Who Magazine]]''. DWM is widely sold among ''Who'' fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.
:'''Owen:''' We could be fuck buddies.
:'''Diane:''' What's a fuck buddy?
:'''Owen:''' It's, um, it's a friend that you have casual sex with.
So the article would say something like:
:A '''fuck buddy''' was, according to [[Owen Harper]], "a friend that you have casual [[sex]] with." Owen offered [[Diane Holmes]] such a relationship after she accidentally [[time travel|travelled]] from [[1953]] to [[2007]] through the [[Cardiff Rift]]. ([[TV]]: ''[[Out of Time (TV story)|Out of Time]]'')
You see? Not just a page for the sake of having the word "fuck" in it, but just a nicely defined term getting its own page. This seems fine to me.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 23:38, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
::[[Fuck buddy|Created it]]. I created [[:category:sex]] in the process. I hope you don't mind it being under [[:category:culture]]. Should it be under [[:category:biology|biology]] as well? --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 00:04, May 30, 2013 (UTC)

==Celestial Toymaker clip==
:Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of [[the Doctor (The Brain of Morbius)|the Doctor]]. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of [[Peter Capaldi]] as the [[Twelfth Doctor]], would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] [[User talk:Scrooge MacDuck|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

::Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder ''always'' trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host ''any'' images of their covers at ''all'', or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere ''wish'' should not paralyse a whole fandom so.

== Exhibitions and days of the year ==
::I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.

I'm currently in the process of adding opening/closing dates for [[Doctor Who exhibition|''Doctor Who'' exhibitions]] to day of the year articles. But, once we split the pages up, where will they go? I suppose the most fitting page would be releases, although they're not technically being "released". Think on this, and get back to me if you have an answer.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 22:24, May 30, 2013 (UTC)
::(For the record I ''have'' seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a ''character''; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) == Trafalgar Square ==
== Millennia's blue hair ==

I don't see why you had to delete it. My intent was to not include the video, and just ignore the second half of it, and it's not really part of the story anyway. I'm assuming that the spoiler you're referring to is the filming spoiler in the second half, right? Where in the now-deleted article did I actually include any of those spoilers? I'm fairly sure that the answer should be nowhere.
I already made a forum post about this, but maybe this is better. Where did the information on Millennia's blue hair come from? It's been bugging many of us in the Deca fandom for quite some time. I see the edit on that was made in August of 2011, while the page itself was made in 2009. Many people have read through Divided Loyalties, even going as far as to specifically search for "blue hair," and have turned up empty. Was this just some fan thing that everyone agreed upon? Thank you!

I originally asked if I could create the page at [[thread:130675]], but seeing as no one ever answered it, I figured that there would be nothing wrong with the page. == Manarchy ban ==
:To elaborate, if you think that mentioning that [[Strax]] spotted the [[Eleventh Doctor]] in [[Trafalgar Square]] is the violation, the ''Field Report'' is actually an officially released story. It was released a little while ago in fact. While you might quibble (and I'm sure you will) over whether or not it's a "story", you cannot deny that it has been long officially released. --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 00:45, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
::Okay, I respect your decision. In fact, I actually agree with you — just the title is a spoiler. This is really a separate, but related, issue. Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own [https://eminem.fandom.com/wiki/User:Kris_tha_6%277%22 Eminem Wiki], so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template [[Template:TimelineRevised]] and (originally) [[Template:Order of Centuries]] (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. [[1st century]]) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).

Warning, tomorrow's newspaper front pages contain a major spoiler for series 8. {{User:Digifiend/SigReal|21:22,1/6/2013}}
Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in [[MediaWiki:Fandomdesktop.css|Fandomdesktop.css]] was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] and [[User:OncomingStorm12th|OncomingStorm12th]] to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all.

The background was not added by me but rather [[User:SOTO|SOTO]]. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.
::Ah, you saw the message CzechOut left on my talk page. Yeah, I was thinking of [[Eleventh Doctor]], [[Matt Smith]], and a third article whose identity would give away the spoiler. My understanding of SMW was that, if a wiki has it enabled, it is fine for that wiki to use it. Certainly, I've spoken a fair bit with users on the Fandom Discord server about it and I was never told not to use it. While I do prefer Cargo, SMW is very useful and I feel it should be used to it's fullest potential. Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as {{tlx|wales crew}} and {{tlx|Speedy rename}} so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually.

Yeah, sorry about that. I saw the message a while ago, but by the time I came to the ''[[Vengeance on Varos (TV story)]]'' page, I had forgotten the specifics of the bot run. == Temporary forums ==
Hey, hope you've been alright with the (gestures around toward the abstract) ''[[COVID-19|everything]]'' lately. This is actually a message from multiple admin (myself, [[user:OncomingStorm12th]] and [[user:Scrooge MacDuck]]), though it is me writing this. (Don't worry too much about it.)

Argh, I was getting so far!! I didn't think my categorial expansion would be controversial. Note that I did ''not'' add people to these categories simply because they attended a church. Everyone in the new categories are either religious leaders, or very directly identify with a religion. Many of those are specifically organisations, the contents members of these organisations. I have categories there named "followers of" and "members of" — very clearly members of those religions. I understand there might be a blur in the DWU between Catholics and Protestants, so we could always group them together into one central [[:category:Christians]] if necessary. Apart from that, I do not see any issues.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 16:33, June 5, 2013 (UTC)
So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up [[Tardis talk:Temporary forums|temporary forums]], so we can still get the ''essential'' discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at [[Tardis talk:Temporary forums]], where others have chimed in (including [[user:Tangerineduel]], who ''also'' thinks it's a good idea).

:On a slightly related note, do we still have the "a category must have 3 pages before you create it" ruling or was that one removed in the MoS redistribution/have we done away with that requirement? --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 16:57, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Basically, six slots would be open for new discussions (we actually have a list of priorities going). In the spirit of ''[[Doctor Who: Flux]]'', rather like the [[Mouri]] in the [[Temple of Atropos]], all forum discussion passes through these spaces (beyond the scope of talk pages). When one closes, its spot will be opened for another to take its place.

:1. Links to these six spaces;
:2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);
:3. An archive section (with table format, showing resolves/unresolved, and a quick summary of the closing remarks).
All in one place. This will help with moving things over to the Actual Forums. And there will be a strict time limit on these discussions: three weeks until [[Closing Time (TV story)|closing time]]. When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.

== Link spoiler ==
This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on)<ref>It will also make sure these will be '''non-trivial discussions''' for us to pass over. To be added to the list, a new proposal needs to meet two criteria: It must... Hi, Czech. If you are talking about the orange sticky message, it does help that it provides a link to The Howling. But I think there are other Forums (Discontinuity, Help, etc.) that aren't listed on the main Forum list.
== Off-topic megathread for discussions ==

Here's the thing...when I was first discovering this place (and we are talking about the first months, not the first day), I'd make a post on a Forum or respond to another person's thread and I usually couldn't find it later to check in on the conversation. I'd go to the main Forum list, go into each of the Forums, find that most of them were inactive and only at some point later would I find that I'd gone to The Howling or had actually commented on a Talk page.
So I’ve seen a few wikis with off-topic megathreads (Jurassic Park wiki being one example, with the “Chaos Zone”), which are basically discussions threads where users can post whatever they want that is not related to the subject of the wiki (in this case, posts unrelated to Doctor Who) in the replies to that thread. We could put it in the FANDOM posts category, so it’s easier to find, and we can tell users about it whenever a discussion is or goes off-topic. Maybe we could call it “The Void” too, as it is technically outside of “the universe of the wiki”, as the void was outside the universe of Doctor Who. What do you think about this idea? [[User:GaganTopia|GaganTopia]] [[User talk:GaganTopia|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Now, I realize that the burden should be on me to remember where I posted. But, like I said earlier, it would be helpful for others who fumbled around like me if there was one location where all of the Forums (obviously not the Talk pages though) were listed. This sticky does help remind people about The Howling...although it's still not clear to me why it can't just get a regular listing on the page.
: : Name a list of wikis I have been banned on and when I was banned on them. And my actions on other wikis should not impact how I am on this one, as I've done nothing wrong here, it's not fair, and I do make edits when I see pages to be edited. == Talk page number... things ==

: Well, Czech, it seems like every time I post a request or suggestion it leads you to telling me why it's not feasible (which makes me think that the wiki software is inflexible) but I always appreciate you taking the time to explain the situation to me. Admins on other wikis might just post "Ain't going to happen" but you use it as a teachable moment.
The [[number]] displayed on the talk page "''[[thingy]]''" on pages seems to be off currently - possible because of a recent [[Fandom]] update, so I [[thought]] [[User:CzechOut|you]] were the best [[person]] to [[Question|ask]]. It seems to display "[[1 (number)|1]]" for a while after ''more'' messages have been added, which certainly throws me off, as I've used this number to confirm if I've received a response in the [[past]]. : That said, I'm confused by "you'll automatically be notified when new activity in that thread arises". Does this mean I should be getting email messages? I also thought I could always check my Contributions Page but I'm not sure if The Howling posts would appear here.
== There is no legitimate reason to remove the image gallery from the Pilot Episode's article. ==

: As for not liking your spoiler policy, I just don't feel strongly about it because almost everything I read on this wiki is a spoiler for me. I haven't seen many Classic episodes and I end up doing a lot of reading up on Classic episodes that explain some aspect of the characters or how the DWU works. So, I know how a lot of storylines end before I'll ever see them on screen. I also didn't see the new series in order (I've caught up watching reruns) so, for example, while I've read up on [[The Girl in the Fireplace (TV story)|The Girl in the Fireplace]], I actually only saw the episode two weeks ago when it was rerun on BBCAmerica.
I looked up the image rules, and there is no rule stating that only articles of valid stories can have image galleries. People will want to see the changes between the pilot and the broadcast. [[User:ApertureEmployee427|ApertureEmployee427]] [[User talk:ApertureEmployee427|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 23:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

: And I think the policy is too strict. I understand not disclosing storyline plot points. But to even squelch major news announced by the BBC, that is extensively published and talked about, seems silly. Anyone who is a fan would have to not have any contact with other DW websites, not read Twitter or other media to not be aware of what's going on. And I think the fact that even saying that something is "going on" could be interpreted as a spoiler seems extreme to me.
== Personal information ==

: But, that said, I'm not going to intentionally violate the rules of this site and I hope to not accidentally do so either. This is why I've moved most of my contributions off of Talk Pages and onto The Howling, so I don't inadvertently cross some line in your spoiler policy. Yes, I know that Talk Pages aren't for conversations but the fact is that people DO raise questions on them to clarify elements of the storyline so there is some back and forth going on there. :: Wow, you've given me a lot to think about. It's clear you're really immersed in all-things-wiki and I usually just visit 3 or 4 times a week so we have very different perspectives to view it. == Template:Wales crew updates ==

==Home page complaint==
Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with ''[[The Halloween Apocalypse (TV story)|The Halloween Apocalypse]]'', although the one for ''[[Revolution of the Daleks (TV story)|Revolution of the Daleks]]'' is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at [[Template talk:Wales crew]].
Heya, Czech. I've just had a complaint from a member of the public about a section of the front page, specifically the "Even the BBC spoils stuff" header to the spoiler article. To be honest it does seem to be a tad disrespectful to the company that bring us the show, despite my own feelings on the subject. --[[User:Revanvolatrelundar|Revan]]\[[User_talk:Revanvolatrelundar|Talk]] 16:59, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

I was told of the issue on Skype, hence why I said "member of the public". It's the opening title of the no spoilers article on the front page, as by us saying "Even the BBC spoils stuff" in large letters on our home page does seem at first glance like we're attacking the BBC. Perhaps another opener would be better? --[[User:Revanvolatrelundar|Revan]]\[[User_talk:Revanvolatrelundar|Talk]] 18:01, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
I gather that [[User:SOTO]] has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template.

Thanks for putting me forward as the person to write it. It was actually a nightmare to try and work out ''how'' to end it. The story includes ''so much'', and brought in stuff that wasn't part of the initial starship vote which made it incredibly unwieldy even for the contributors writing it. It left me with a challenge to end it in a meaningful way without having to deal with all the other strands that had been introduced into the story along the way. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 15:43, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

A [[MediaWiki:Sitenotice|sitenotice]] has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update [[Tardis:Administrators|our Administrators]] on the situation, as well as [[User:Spongebob456]].

I see you're preparing for the day-of-the-year split. Let me know when it's done, okay? I'm nowhere close to adding all the info, but even so I would still be glad to do any manual labour involved in the actual split-up. Once again, please let me know. Thanks!<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 16:44, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be '''easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums''' if we should get those back in the near future after all.
:Actually, I have another question, this time concerning the categories. If you follow the tree, [[:category:days of the year]] eventually goes back to [[:category:Time-Space Visualiser]]. Except its subcategories are real-world. This wasn't a problem originally, since the real-world info was in the bts section.
:My proposal is that [[:category:days of the year]] be an umbrella hidden category only for GOR and the subcats. In-universe days need to have their own subcategory (can't think of a name), which would be a subcat of [[:category:dates]]. We'd need to have [[:category:real world dates]] (subcat of [[:category:real world]]), which would include the real world day cats. Sorry, I'm typing this on my phone in a very noisy metro (subway? we call them metros) station, so I can't really concentrate. Correct me if any of that made no sense.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 12:31, June 12, 2013 (UTC)
::Oh, okay, thank you. I have a list somewhere of things I need to add...<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 23:02, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Tiny question: which is higher in the hierarchy, [[assistant floor manager]] or [[production assistant]]? [[Gareth Gwenlan]] is both, and I want to know which to put him as in [[26 April (people)|26 April]]. Please let me know on my talk page or on chat. Thanks.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 20:01, June 18, 2013 (UTC)
But it has been ''multiple years'' since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full ''year'' ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. I don't think anyone's at fault, least of all you; it is clear that you've had the Wiki's best interests at heart all through this. But the fact is thatthe time has come to realise that this overly-optimistic strategy of endlessly putting off an imperfect temporary solution in pursuit of a perfect one "soon"… has failed, resoundingly. It is time for a different approach. The Tardis community are ''owed'' a different approach.
:Actually, if you don't respond, I'm going to take it that assistant floor manager is higher. Something's telling me that the guy who answers the phone and makes the lunch ain't so high...<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 20:04, June 18, 2013 (UTC)
::Saw [http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/26_April_(people)?diff=1497175&oldid=1496962 your edit]. Really? Doesn't seem so from the job descriptions on the wiki.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 02:27, June 19, 2013 (UTC)
:::Actually, that does help. Quite a bit. I'm learning more and more about production in the old series from you, and getting more and more interested. So this is cool, ''and'' it helps my editing. No wonder I love this place!<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 03:33, June 19, 2013 (UTC)

We [[four surviving elementals|four elementals]] behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step '''is not intended to create more work for them unbidden'''. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any ''obligation'' to do so.

Okay, CzechOut, I accidentally submitted an unfinished message. Let me try this again: Do I need to stay clear of the page moves even though they have been unlocked? Forgive me for this oversight. The headline warning not to edit and checking the "Recent Activity" section have alerted me to quit. My apologies for the corrupted message I just posted. --[[User:Thunderush|Thunderush]] [[User talk:Thunderush|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 02:06, June 15, 2013 (UTC)
Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

Happy to hear that! And yes, I initially was confused over where to move some of those dates. I buzzed over to the splitting thread to learn more. Now that you finished purging [[18 May]], that gives me an example to go by. Best of luck on smoothing out the bumps in the other dates. --[[User:Thunderush|Thunderush]] [[User talk:Thunderush|<span title="Talk to me"></span>]] 02:13, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

In case you didn't notice, I have completed the split-up stage of the project, and I have cleaned up ''most'' pages in the manner we discussed in the process. I actually began writing this message to ask a question about ''[[TV Action]]'' dating, but then I realised that I made a horrible miscalculation and there is no actual problem. So no need for that. Anyway, now I'm adding comic releases, going through each issue of each magazine. WLH reports won't give me every release, since we write things like "[[27 March (releases)|27 March]] - [[22 May (releases)|22 May]]", so how am I expected to find the six releases in between? Just an update; I am very happy with my progress.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 01:08, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I've accepted your friend request. Having the <tt>Forum</tt> namespace back in action is certainly going to be very helpful. [[User:Bongolium500|<span title="aka Bongolium500">Bongo50</span>]] [[User talk:Bongolium500|<span title="talk to me">☎</span>]] 05:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
:Okay, thanks! And don't worry, I have a calendar open. :)
:As far as ''[[Empire of Death (novel)|Empire of Death]]'', I'll put that next on my list of novels to read. Now. Back to ''TV Action''. Let's see if I can remember when to change the name of the magazine...
:--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 01:34, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
::Okay, I'll use it. Wait! Is ''Countdown The Space-age Comic!'' the correct spelling? The capitalisation seems a bit... odd. Isn't it in all-caps on the cover anyway? Actually, better question: should I be using the cover titles or the incidia titles?<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 01:44, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
:::Okay, so what exactly should I be writing in the entries? For the last comic, I was writing:
::::* [[1972]] - Part one of ''[[Sub Zero (comic story)|*Sub Zero]]'' was first published in ''[[TV Action|Countdown to TV Action]]''.
:::If this is too long, then what should I be writing instead? Should I just ''always'' go with ''TV Action''?
Okay, reread your message. Can you just give me issue numbers for the switch between those three stages? --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 02:00, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
:Nah, never mind, I'm just going with your website. All the titles there are nice and short. You don't have a problem with [[18 March (releases)|18 March]] or [[1 April (releases)|1 April]], do you? --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 02:08, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
::Oh, I didn't clean up January to March yet, which is why they have such long entries. If you want a better example, look at later days. [[30 April (releases)|30 April]], for example, is much more representative of what the pages, for the most part, look like. --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 02:43, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
:::In fact, I just edited [[18 March (releases)]] to give you an idea of what pages look like after my clean-ups. Do you have any problems with its current state?<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 02:49, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
::::Okay. That sounds much better, actually. I'll start writing like that, and fix the rest in my next clean-up round. In the meantime, I have a ''lot'' of TVC stories to add. And then DWA, and then DWM! A lot of work ahead of me just in this one field. Better get to it, then! :D<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 03:22, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
:::::That's actually kinda funny, since that's pretty much how I originally had it before you told me to change it. Ooh, and now I can use links like [[Doctor Who Adventures comic stories|''Doctor Who Adventures'' comic story]]! --[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 03:26, June 23, 2013 (UTC)
No, I don't think the publisher's ''absolutely necessary''. Majority were published by Target. Mind you, there were the Mullers, and the ones by [[Pinnacle Books]], and three by [[BBC Books]] so far: ''[[The Novel of the Film]]'', ''[[Scream of the Shalka (novelisation)|Scream of the Shalka]]'' and ''[[Shada (novelisation)|Shada]]''. But those are the ''exceptions''! Would you suggest only mentioning the publisher in the first one, or never mentioning it unless it's not Target?

On a separate point, remember the date redirects I think you created a few years back? Like: [[1st January]] redirects to [[1 January]]? Are you planning on doing the same for the new pages? So: [[1st January (releases)]] => [[1 January (releases)]]?
== Heads up about the thanks extension ==

Oh, and a third, ''completely'' unrelated topic! I have been getting "Emergency Protocol One" error messages daily for at least a week! They seem to always happen when no one else is around but me (I guess because that's the middle of the night US time, where a lot of our editors are from. Oh, and the middle of the night here too :P), and last for around 10 minutes. They're not ''that'' bad, but they're certainly inconvenient! I'll be glad to take a screenshot next time I see a message if you want. Or check anything else.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 08:16, June 24, 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I just wanted to give you a heads up that Tardis is testing the "thanks" extension which Fandom will be rolling out to all wikis soon. This extension allows editors to thank other editors for their edits. The editor being thanked will then recieve a notification. Therefore, while you're actively performing edits, you may receieve a few more notifications than normal. If you notice any bugs, pass them onto [[User:Spongebob456]]. Hello, I have been looking for a certain Doctor Who story for a long time. I mean 'Which Way Out?' from TV Comic Holiday Special 1976. It's hard to find any information about this story, but I did find that you wrote an article about it on the TARDIS Wiki, so I assume you've read it. I was wondering if you might still have access to this story? I will be very grateful for your answer.

I usually get rid of {{tlx|DeleteDate}}, and put in a hidden message with the name of the story where the day is featured. Then I (if I remember) put a note on my user page, and finally read/watch the story whenever I get the chance. I do regularly check the talk pages when I'm editing day pages, but it would be helpful if maybe you could put a hidden message?

You don't have any opposition to removing the {{tlx|DeleteDate}}s, do you? The tag states that it should be deleted unless it appears in a valid source. Once we know it appears in a valid source, I don't think it's wrong to remove the tag before actually writing the entry. Besides, it helps me find out which days I will find info for, and which I might not.<br>--[[user:SmallerOnTheOutside|SOTO]] [[User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside|☎]] 21:07, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

==Who is a Companion?==
I read the old discussion on questionable companions.
I know you guys never really came to a conclusion, and probably dread the idea of returning to the debate.
Still, Id like to offer some input. I am currently working on a poster for the 50th with all of the doctors and companions over the past 50 years. When I tried to use the TARDIS wikia, I honestly wasnt thrilled with your list. I found it to be lacking some characters that I think important and containing others I would have passed up. This forced me to create my own set of guidelines.

Let me say, this list is only for the TV episodes, and your current breakdown for Prose, Comic, Audio, ect is rather brilliant. Again, my format only affects TV companions.

Also, The 3rd Doctor is the exception to this list (as he was the only Doctor grounded to Earth, he also must follow a separate set of rules).

For the rest of the Doctors, they are a companion if they meet any of the following 3 criteria:
*Appeared in more than one episode and traveled in the TARDIS.
*Traveled in the TARDIS and died in their first story.
*Invited to travel in the TARDIS with The Doctor, when he had no other companion.

With this logic:
*Jackie Tyler, Wilfred Mott and Brian Williams are companions because they each appeared in more than one episode and all traveled in the TARDIS at least once.
*Adelaide Brooke counts as a companion because she traveled in the TARDIS and died in that episode. However, Mia and Yuri traveled in the TARDIS but did not die. And because Mia and Yuri were only in the one episode, they do not count as companions.
*Astrid Peth is a companion because she was invited to travel with the Doctor, and despite only being in one episode, it was when the Doctor was traveling alone. Christina De Souza is NOT a companion (because she did not travel in the TARDIS and was not invited) Likewise, Madame de Pompadour does not count (because she was invited, but only appeared in one episode while the doctor already had companions with him.)

Basically, I'm using the "traveled with" or "invited to travel" idea, but "cleaning it up" with the "Death clause" (If they were important enough to him to get a ride in the TARDIS, and died before we got to see more of them, we will infer that they would have been seen again) and the "Doctor is Alone clause" (When the Doctor is alone, he seeks a companion).
These clauses are straight forward and make sense and allow pretty much everything through that should get through (in my opinion).

As for the 3rd Doctor, we simply look at his regular associates at UNIT. (This includes Shaw, Grant, Smith, Stewart, Yates, Benton). Simple.
[[http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/User:ShadGray]]
== Something Borrowed ==
I only edited those pages because of a faulty link. I changed [[Something Borrowed (TV story)|Something Borrowed]] to [[Something Borrowed (TV story)]], '''which I am allowed to do''' because there is another story with the same title, ([[Something Borrowed (short story)]]). The links were clearly linking to the TV story and not the faulty page that should be deleted.

May I remind you that I do edit in other ways on this wiki and that you changed all links to The End of Time because there is two stories with the same title in the DWU. '''If that is against TARDIS policy then both you and me are guilty of the same crime.''' The page "Something Borrowed" itself says that it should be deleted with means that no pages need to link to it, and the reason why it hasn't yet been deleted is because pages like [[Torchwood SUV]] still link to it.

I was merely trying to avoid confusion between to different stories '''that you yourself said was okay'''. You are giving the impression that you are throwing all of my well-meant edits back in my face. If you wish to reply you may as well do so on chat since we are both on there now. ::Hi. I'm sorry for my bad manner earlier, but I wrongly assumed that you already knew about [[Something Borrowed (short story)]] and that you were using me as some sort of scapegoat.

::I thought I might as well inform you that there are four pages linking to [[Special:WhatLinkshere/The End of Time|The End of Time]] and seven pages linking to [[Special:WhatLinkshere/Planet of the Dead|Planet of the Dead]]. As we both know, there are two stories for each of those titles and that those links should not be there. I would change them myself, but I doubt that I have the authority to since they are not part of the mainstream wiki and that I would be breaking local policy to do so. == Companion List ==
Sorry if I wasn't clear before. I will attempt to fill in the blanks.
Let me begin by saying that I understand that there is no definition of a companion. That said, I feel like we can create some form of guidelines to help us determine who is listed and who is not.
(I refer to the table "Companions by Doctor" at the bottom of [[Companion]].) This list would only apply to the TV companions, as prose and audio are a different beast and as I am not familiar enough with them to know if the following guidelines would work for them, I will simply say this applies only to TV characters unless someone else says it works for Prose and Audio as well.

For your consideration, I have adopted the following conditions and apply them to determine if I consider a character to be a "companion". They only need to meet ONE of the following:
*1. Seen to encounter The Doctor on more than one occasion and traveled in the TARDIS.
*2. Traveled in the TARDIS and died in their first story.
*3. Invited to travel in the TARDIS with The Doctor, when he had no other companion.

I am aware that some of the admin prefer not to use "traveled in the TARDIS" as a condition and instead look to press notes and author's intent. As I see that as vague, I prefer not to do that.

Now, with the above conditions, I would rule the following on these 'controversial' characters:
*YES - Katarina - passes #2
*YES - Sara Kingdom - passes #2
*NO - Bret Vyon - fails all conditions
*YES - The Brig - passes #1
*YES - Sgt Benton - passes #1
*YES - Mike Yates - passes #1
*YES - Grace Holloway - passes #3
*NO - Chang Lee - fails all conditions
*YES - Jackie Tyler - passes #1
*NO - Madame de Pompadour - fails all conditions (Never traveled in the TARDIS. Was invited to, but while the Doctor already had companions with him)
*YES - Astrid Peth - passes #3
*NO - Jackson Lake - fails all conditions
*NO - Rosita Farisi - fails all conditions
*NO - Lady Christina de Souza - fails all conditions (in fact the Doctor flat out denies her.)
*NO - Cassie Rice - fails all conditions
*NO - Jimmy Stalkingwolf - fails all conditions
*YES - Adelaide Brooke - passes on #2 (yet Mia Bennett, Yuri Kerenski both fail, despite riding in the TARDIS once, they did not return for another episode and did not die in their first).
*YES - Wilfred Mott - passes #1
*NO - Craig Owens - fails all conditions (because he never rode in the TARDIS and was never invited to)
*YES - Canton Delaware - passes #1
*YES - Dorium Maldovar - passes #1
*NO - Kazran Sardick - passes #1 (because he is seen to encounter the Doctor at several points in his life)
*YES - Abigail Pettigrew - passes #2
*NO - Madge, Lily and Cyril Arwell - fails all conditions
*NO - Nefertiti - fails all conditions (was only SEEN to encounter The Doctor once, despite that reference is made to other encounters)
*NO - John Riddell - fails all conditions (was only SEEN to encounter The Doctor once, despite that reference is made to other encounters)
*YES - Vincent van Gogh - passes #1
*YES - Brian Williams - passes #1

Apply these 3 conditions to others and test. Would you agree with them?
Note: One other condition that could be applied (affecting Vincent) could be to remove any Real Life Historical Figures that The Doctor encounters as companions.

Hello!

I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.

DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and User:OncomingStorm12th, User:SOTO and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but not block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him.

He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner User:Najawin) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on the talk page I mentioned earlier, because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions opposite to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion.

So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?

To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment.

…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls[[edit source]]

Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. Chubby Potato 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Something odd[[edit source]]

I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, I don't know either. NightmareofEden 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Re: Master discussion[[edit source]]

Good to know. I did just make another post on the matter just before I received your message, so feel free to delete that. I would like to ask you politely to unlock the initial discussion though, as you did ask for ideas. Regards,

Re: Discussions use[[edit source]]

Right right, I see!

Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of not holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that your own quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought you had changed your mind about this. I have no particular wish that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought you were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.

But thanks for the explanation, all the same! Scrooge MacDuck 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Re: DWM[[edit source]]

Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?

To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.
Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder always trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host any images of their covers at all, or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere wish should not paralyse a whole fandom so.
I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.
(For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Scrooge MacDuck 23:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Invite[[edit source]]

Incidentally, this is unrelated to the above matter, but I am still waiting on you for that Slack invite, unless you already sent it and my spam folder ate it up. (If you've misplaced my email address, it's still one of my most recent messages to you on Discord.) Scrooge MacDuck 23:57, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Millennia's blue hair[[edit source]]

I already made a forum post about this, but maybe this is better. Where did the information on Millennia's blue hair come from? It's been bugging many of us in the Deca fandom for quite some time. I see the edit on that was made in August of 2011, while the page itself was made in 2009. Many people have read through Divided Loyalties, even going as far as to specifically search for "blue hair," and have turned up empty. Was this just some fan thing that everyone agreed upon? Thank you! ~@starryeyedgazer June 6th, 2021

Manarchy ban[[edit source]]

Hello. You might not remember me but my account is called Manarchy. I'm currently using a VPN to talk to you and i wanted to talk about my ban. It's been a couple of years since i even visited this wikia and I realised that I had grown more mature as the years went by. If it is possible, is there any way you could unban my account? I apologise for my actions as a young teenager and promise that I will be more mature on this site. If it is impossible, then i'm just glad to wrap things up with this wikia.

Manarchy 01:29 July 7, 2021 (UTC)

(Heads'up, I've informed Manarchy of the inappropriateness of their VPN shenanigans. I'll leave making a judgment on the request itself to you, though.) Scrooge MacDuck 00:35, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fix[[edit source]]

Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).

Re: Some of your recent changes and proposals[[edit source]]

Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in Fandomdesktop.css was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with Scrooge MacDuck and OncomingStorm12th to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all.

The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.

The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.

Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as {{wales crew}} and {{Speedy rename}} so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually.

Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now.

I hope that you are now feeling better on the medical front. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 07:41, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Something else that I've just remembered about my use of Fandomdesktop.css is that I wrote a lot of it when Oasis was still the primary skin and I didn't want anything I was writing for FandomDesktop to have side effects on Oasis. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 07:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Anonnotice error[[edit source]]

Hello, I'm glad you're back and I hope you're feeling better now. I know you're still fixing up the tech and visual stuff, but I just wanted to let you know that MediaWiki:Anonnotice was oddly displaying a portion of an infobox which I determined to be from Popidius Celsinus. I hadn't even been on that page. It only happens sometimes but it's very strange. Chubby Potato 05:02, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

Temporary forums[[edit source]]

Hey, hope you've been alright with the (gestures around toward the abstract) everything lately. This is actually a message from multiple admin (myself, user:OncomingStorm12th and user:Scrooge MacDuck), though it is me writing this. (Don't worry too much about it.)

So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up temporary forums, so we can still get the essential discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at Tardis talk:Temporary forums, where others have chimed in (including user:Tangerineduel, who also thinks it's a good idea).

Creatures who hold Time in this universe together broken. Time is beginning to run wild. Could really harm the Tardis. So I made a short-term repair.

Basically, six slots would be open for new discussions (we actually have a list of priorities going). In the spirit of Doctor Who: Flux, rather like the Mouri in the Temple of Atropos, all forum discussion passes through these spaces (beyond the scope of talk pages). When one closes, its spot will be opened for another to take its place.

[[Tardis:Temporary forums]] would be the Hub, with

1. Links to these six spaces;
2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);
3. An archive section (with table format, showing resolves/unresolved, and a quick summary of the closing remarks).

All in one place. This will help with moving things over to the Actual Forums. And there will be a strict time limit on these discussions: three weeks until closing time. When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.

This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on)[1].

The thing is, we just wanted to make sure you weren't just about to hit that big friendly button before proceeding. No point in all this, after all, if there won't be time enough for round one before the next stage of forum evolution's upon us again. We were thinking about opening the temporary forums on the Sunday after next, around Doctor Who time[2] That'd be Sunday Jan 23rd, 19:30 UTC. Unless you think you'll have the Newest Forums up and running by then?

Happy New Year, by the way!
× SOTO (//) 21:19, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

  1. It will also make sure these will be non-trivial discussions for us to pass over. To be added to the list, a new proposal needs to meet two criteria: It must... 1: be actionable (within the three week time limit, it should be possible to hash out), 2: affect a large number of pages.
  2. Which is to say, around the time we'd start the page for a new episode of Doctor Who. Bottom of the hour, as you once explained to me.
Perfectly alright! I'm in no rush personally, but the community's been calling for things to move forward again. (Obviously, no extra steps would be better.) Glad to hear you're doing well. It's been a while.
× SOTO (//) 03:34, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Late reply, but all good! Glad to see it's being worked on. We'll hold off for now if that's the case, don't worry.

Off-topic megathread for discussions[[edit source]]

GaganTopia 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

: Name a list of wikis I have been banned on and when I was banned on them. And my actions on other wikis should not impact how I am on this one, as I've done nothing wrong here, it's not fair, and I do make edits when I see pages to be edited. GaganTopia 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Talk page number... things[[edit source]]

The number displayed on the talk page "thingy" on pages seems to be off currently - possible because of a recent Fandom update, so I thought you were the best person to ask. It seems to display "1" for a while after more messages have been added, which certainly throws me off, as I've used this number to confirm if I've received a response in the past. Do you have any clue what could have caused this? (2 screenshots are displayed below for illustrative purposes)

Cookieboy 2005 20:02, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Another issue[[edit source]]

Navigation templates, or "navboxes", also have an issue - they're open by default & cannot be collapsed.

There is no legitimate reason to remove the image gallery from the Pilot Episode's article.[[edit source]]

I looked up the image rules, and there is no rule stating that only articles of valid stories can have image galleries. People will want to see the changes between the pilot and the broadcast. ApertureEmployee427 23:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Personal information[[edit source]]

Hey, how have you been? User:Najawin recently alerted me over personal/potentially doxxing information being added to one of our pages recently by an anonymous user. Since then, I've protected the page so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it (which thankfully stopped the info being added again), but Najawin further contacted me pointing out that we should probably delete said revisions from the page (which I don't believe is something I am able to do.

Would you mind helping out on this? OncomingStorm12th 18:41, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Just to note, for the technical bit of this getting done, the first edit to add potentially doxxing information was on 26 May 2022‎, and more information was added over time. Nobody noticed it aside from an IP user until this past September when I was checking some old conversations I had and links in them. I promptly removed the info, but someone then added it back. Clearing out the original May edit and all since then is probably the way to go. Najawin 06:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Forums discussion[[edit source]]

Hey, I know you've been busy, but I wanted to let you know that in light of the two year anniversary of the forums being down a good deal of the active editors have been having a discussion over at Forum talk:Index. We'd love for you to read it over and join the conversation when you have the time. Najawin 20:06, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Template:Wales crew updates[[edit source]]

Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with The Halloween Apocalypse, although the one for Revolution of the Daleks is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at Template talk:Wales crew.

I gather that User:SOTO has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template.

I wonder if you might be willing to put me in touch with SOTO, take a look at it yourself, or point me in the direction of someone else who could help? If it's an option, I would love to be able to edit the template myself instead of endlessly bothering busy admins. Again, I'm very sorry to contact you out of the blue about something you used to maintain ten years ago! Starkidsoph 23:45, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

User rights nomination[[edit source]]

Hi CzechOut, long time no chat! I'm sure you saw my nomination of Bongolium500 for adminship, but just want to do due diligence and let you know just in case. I'll also take the chance to thank you for your attention to Forum talk:Index – very much looking forward to the fresh start, and very appreciative of your stopping by to take us over the finish line despite the busy time of year :) – n8 () 18:54, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Happy Thanksgiving! It's now been a little over one week since Bongo's nomination discussion began, so we'd be ready for you to weigh in. By the way, any update or new ETA for the forums? – n8 ()

Bongolium 500[[edit source]]

Hi Czechout I know I am in the wrong place however for some reason I am unable to comment on the user rights page but long story short i absolutely and wholeheartedly support bongolium 500 in becoming a admin, I know I haven't really contributed anything yet but this is because I am currently trying to learn the rules and how to include the source of my information but I will hopefully be contributing at some point as not only am I a huge doctor who fan but I sometimes work on doctor who as a stunt performer!!!, Anyway I support Bongolium 500 because as a newcomer to contributing on this wikia he is invaluable for the technical stuff in the form of creating new templates I plan to use his help with templates when I hopefully start contributing. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ser0slug (talk • contribs) .

Happy new year[[edit source]]

I Know 2023 isn't here yet, though as I'm near the last day til New Year's Eve, happy new year. User:Sum41Champ

Temporary Forums Are Live![[edit source]]

Hello!

Just wanted to notify you that, User:CzechOut's final deadline of "by New Year's Day" having passed, and following in-depth discussion between myself and fellow admins User:SOTO, User:OncomingStorm12th and User:Bongolium500, we have decided to activate Tardis:Temporary forums, come what may. A sitenotice has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update our Administrators on the situation, as well as User:Spongebob456.

As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums if we should get those back in the near future after all.

But it has been multiple years since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full year ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. The Tardis community are owed a different approach.

We four elementals behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step is not intended to create more work for them unbidden. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any obligation to do so.

Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

Scrooge MacDuck 11:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Re: Forums[[edit source]]

Hi. I've accepted your friend request. Having the Forum namespace back in action is certainly going to be very helpful. Bongo50 05:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Heads up about the thanks extension[[edit source]]

If you notice any bugs, pass them onto User:Spongebob456. Bongo50 19:56, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

Why don't you use your bot anymore?[[edit source]]

It hasn't made any edits since september 2020. Sliderhostmimic 18:12, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Request to correct a mistake[[edit source]]

Hi CzechOut I am fairly new to contributing to this fandom but I contribute to another regularly, anyway I have accidentally linked to a category that doesn't exist, I intended to link to the category UNIT United Kingdom however I have accidentally confused myself and created UNIT UK, please can you try and rectify my mistake on my behalf as I know I can't do it without being a admin (I'm a admin on another fandom, so I have inside knowledge of being a admin)

'Which Way Out?' short story[[edit source]]

Hello, I have been looking for a certain Doctor Who story for a long time. I mean 'Which Way Out?' from TV Comic Holiday Special 1976. It's hard to find any information about this story, but I did find that you wrote an article about it on the TARDIS Wiki, so I assume you've read it. I was wondering if you might still have access to this story? I will be very grateful for your answer.
