You may be looking for Greek chorus or chorus of ancient songs.

The Chorus was a character in William Shakespeare's play Henry V.

He was the first person to appear in the play and it was his role to explain to the audience that the lifelike depiction of the conflict featured, namely the Battle of Agincourt between the English and the French in 1415, was "beyond the means of a little group of actors in a wooden theatre".

In a variant version of the play primarily focusing on the Warlike Doctor, the Chorus spoke in a similar vein about the Last Great Time War. During the opening, he mentioned the the Meanwhiles and the troops of Neverwere, the Nightmare Child, the Horde of Travesties, the Skaro Degradations, Gallifrey, Daleks and Rassilon.
