| ==Hello to you too== | | == Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1? == |
| Hello Czech; it's been a while. Nice to be back, but I wish I'd arrived earlier as university beckons once more. I see you have been busy; the wiki has certainly benefited from some fine tuning. These changes were present in a nascent form before my extended leave, so it's interesting to see how they worked out. That said, I do miss some of the quirks, such as the prefixes, and the old guard are notable in their absence.

| Unfortunately, I do find myself at a bit of a loss when it comes to the latest policies, so I'll have to dip into that at some point. I had to look to the community for help using the new infobox too.
| | Hello! |
|
| |
|
| On a side note, and you may already be aware of this, but I'm experiencing a technical issue that causes the stub and <nowiki>{{wikipediainfo}}</nowiki> templates to float in the middle of my screen, as opposed to the left/right hand side. I'm not sure if you've changed them, but I'm pretty sure they never did that when you first introduced them. I'm using Windows 7 Chrome if that helps.
| | I know you have [[Sea creature (Thin Ice)|bigger fish]] to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — [[User:Najawin]] has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of [[User:DiSoRiEnTeD1]] for sockpuppetry. |
|
| |
|
| Anyway, nice to hear from you.--{{User:Skittles the hog/sig}} 18:00, September 8, 2014 (UTC)
| | DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and [[User:OncomingStorm12th]], [[User:SOTO]] and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but ''not'' block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him. |

|
| ==Help With Infobox==
| | He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner [[User:Najawin]]) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on [[Talk:List of recurring Doctor Who concepts not owned by the BBC#Original Mammoths|the talk page I mentioned earlier]], because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions ''opposite'' to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion. |
| Hi, I was recently added the cover pictures for [[The Ghosts of Gralstead]] and there are three of them. I have done the usual trick in the infobox but it doesn't show the third image, I am assuming this is a quirk of the coding, is there a way round this? | | So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what ''happened''? What precisely did he do? When? Where? |
|
| |
|
| ==The Promised Land==
| | To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or ''questioning'' your decision; if he did indeed break [[T:SOCK]], there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes. |
| When you deleted the page, I was trying to make it so that an admin would know to change it. Also, why didn't you just change the name? Please reinstate it with the real name. Rufus 05:26, September 12, 2014 (UTC) [[User:120d|120d]] [[User talk:120d]]

| ::First, The Promised Land had more information than most of the pages on this wiki. Saying that it should be deleted because it only has one sentence means you should delete all of the other planets that have appeared in books that have one sentence on them. Second, It was not speculation, it was pure evidence. Its an actual location and the Doctor thought it was just heaven. Third, why not have it now and add information when we get it? It seems like it would be better to have it now and add the info as it is revealed than to try to remember all of the information at one time later in the series or in the next series. Fourth, I am sorry that I couldn't get a better free image one week after it premieres. I don't like you people and your image rules. All of the other rules seem to make sense, but the image rules seem to be the least logical and the most enforced. What you admins do is, if it breaks one tiny rule, you have to go and delete it. I am glad that you didn't delete my image. (let's hope you haven't or someone else hasn't by the time you are reading this) Don't delete an image because it is not good quality or because it doesn't have a license on it. For the quality part, keep the best quality image and once a better quality image is found replace the image. For the license part, talk to the person who uploaded the image. Maybe they didn't know about the rules. I know that the rules say that you don't have to talk to us, but that is what a member of the community would do. I am pretty sure that there is not a rule that says you should be a jerk about it. (Sorry, some of this was misdirected anger. I am angry at another admin. (who I think should be demoted)) (also, sorry if this took too long to be sent, part of the reason is that I am not used to having to go to the other person's talk page. Personally, I prefer Message Walls over Talk pages. They seem easier.) Rufus 05:54, September 12, 2014 (UTC) 120d
| | …But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. | | Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing [[:Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls]], I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. When the edit completed a big message appeared about "change propagation" and the "job queue". I don't know enough about the code of MediaWiki to know what this really means, or if it will affect anything, but seeing as it appears important and you control the technical aspects of the wiki, I thought you should know. | This entire message would have had to be written if you had message walls. I advise you to examine the pros and cons of both message walls and talk pages. If you decide that you think message walls are better, I advise you to talk to other admins and users to get their opinion. Also, this is an example of a rule that is taken way too seriously. I would have definitely put my full signature, if it wasn't the message above. Rufus 21:13, September 12, 2014 (UTC) [[User:120d]] [[User talk:120d]]

| | I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. | ==Re:Message Walls== | | == Re: Master discussion == |
| When was the last time you discussed it? The reason that I am asking this is because if it has been awhile people might have changed their minds or might think that it is time for a change. Personally, I believe that the advantages of message walls outweigh the disadvantages. It seems more of a hassle to have to go back at forth and possibly not respond if the person didn't get the message. The message wall system allow people to get messages easier and it is all in one place. There is also no need to remember to write your "talk page" or username information. | ::Two things: 1. I don't like when people say that something will happen or something won't happen. You have no idea what the future of this wiki is. Maybe, in a few years, talk pages will be removed from Wikia all together. I don't know and neither do you. 2. Please stop starting your sentences with "and". It is bad grammar. | I am starting to think that you people don't want me to contribute on this wiki. Ever since I started editing people have harassed me about doing thing wrong. At first, it was basic, reasonable things like using British English. But it soon became absolutely ridiculous things. If you are not a mad man, then tell me how night pictures are bad (especially one that was clearly not dark) and file names being bad is a reason for it to be deleted. I think that you admins like to be as lazy as possible. I know for a fact that all admins have the ability to rename images. You can probably also change licensing much easier than a normal user can. I am sick of admins coming up with bull crap reasons to block me or delete my contributions. "You disagreed with my point of view and the vague rules that are up to interpretation, but only MY interpretation. Block!" "You said one bad thing during Christmas time, the time of being nice. (The following action goes against what I just mentioned) Block!" "Your image was not correctly licensed. Delete!" "Your image was taken at night, in my opinion doesn't clearly show the topic, (which it does (by the way, I would have uploaded a cropped photo of the building, but I knew you were going to harass me about not having it be a widescreen image.) and has a name that is not easily searchable (which isn't the point of an image on a wiki (the point of an image on a wiki is to convey a scene or point that is in an article or template or to represent an article.) Delete!" "The name of your article was incorrect. (You did give me good reasons after the fact, but the fact remains that the reason you gave to delete that article is that the name was incorrect.) Delete!" I hope you see my point. Also, the image did show the scene was. Anyone who has seen the episode knows that Rose Tyler's work is about to explode. I am going to re-upload my image with a different name. Please don't delete it because of these ridiculous rules. I have proven that the name thing is the only thing that I think is reasonable to change. Something that you and Shambala108 cannot seem to understand is that you should talk to the people before you delete. We are all trying to contribute to this wiki. Your job is to not allow spoilers and vandalism, make sure everyone is nice (not necessarily agreeing), and make sure that all information is up to date and well-written. I can honestly say that right now there is no such thing as a Doctor Who wiki community. Right now, there is are two classes: the admins and their followers. Some of us don't want to be followers. It doesn't matter how long you have been here or what abilities you have. All that matters is that you are all fans of Doctor Who and want to contribute to this wiki. I think that there needs to be a change in the rules; a change that would allow all users to be equal and not have to follow ridiculous rules. Just because they are the wiki's rules doesn't mean they are good. Rufus 15:37, September 16, 2014 (UTC) [[User:120d|120d]] [[User talk:120d]]

| | Right right, I see! |

|
| ::I understand what you have written. I have a few things I wanted to mention. First, you used "and" at the beginning of a sentence again; please stop. Second, isn't the caption supposed to be what tells a person who has never seen the what it is about. Third, you keep talking about the image as if it wasn't on the article. I feel like you keep going from specific to the topic to all things that topic is contained in in the same sentence. Fourth, you are mistaken on what I think an admins job is. The things I gave were just some of the general responsibilities of a admin. I am saying that you shouldn't bring up naming as a reason to delete a page or picture, if you can change the name yourself. Same with licensing if you can change it easily. I do not think that admins are maids. I am an admin on other wikis and would never like to be called a maid. Fifth, I don't like that you, and I don't know this, but it might be because you are an admin, think that other admins are good admins. Do you think that I should have been blocked for adding spoilers? I believe that i had stopped at that point, but he or she still blocked me. I don't remember what I said, but do you think that I should have been blocked for saying something mean? (Personally, I think that one is uncalled for. The first one I didn't like, but this was just no okay.) I am pretty sure that I didn't swear. As far as my memory goes, I have only sworn once on a wiki and it was not on this wiki. You cannot say that all admins do the right thing all of the time because they do not. Rufus 17:52, September 16, 2014 (UTC) [[User:120d|120d]] [[User talk:120d]]
| | Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of ''not'' holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that ''your own'' quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought ''you'' had changed your mind about this. I have no particular ''wish'' that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought ''you'' were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there. |
| :::I was told never to start a sentence with "and". It is definitely not formal. Also, my past with Encyclopedia SpongeBobia has no relevance to this. I left on my own accord and was removed from power for blocking people. (By the way, I forgot to point out earlier that I have never been banned on a wiki) Also, I believe you mean "the admins over at...". I do not believe that all of your rules are ridiculous. I have never stated once that I am not obligated to follow your rules. I have a suggestion. I think that a guideline page for characters and locations should be made. It would help me and others a lot on what we can and cannot write on a character and location page. Rufus 22:35, September 16, 2014 (UTC) [[User:120d|120d]] [[User talk:120d]]

| ::I know this is (was) a personal discussion but I would like to rudely butt in with another low-edit-count user's POV. I side with Rufus/120d here: I was essentially driven off the Star Wars Wookieepedia wiki after only a few attempts at participation by admins and admin-wannabes who were rather rude, arrogant, and abrasive in the ways they applied the policies (some of which are indeed, like Rufus charged, rather dependent on personal interpretation). Yes, I understand that you admins and your clique of followers desire a well-running, accurate wiki, but it doesn't excuse the consistent rudeness I've seen while reading the edit histories of both Wookieepedia and Tardis Core articles and the talk pages of admins and users alike, often exacerbated or even initiated by said admins and their adherents. I would love to be a contributor myself, but after being burned the first time I am very reluctant to return to being a wiki contributor.
| | But thanks for the explanation, all the same! [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] [[User talk:Scrooge MacDuck|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC) |
| ::Yes, you guys do try to explain why you changed something after you make the changes, but it's the fact that you (or the bots you are responsible for) summarily changed something that a user (especially a new one) probably worked really hard to contribute that really hurts people. And when they try to explain why it shouldn't be changed they often get a response that comes across really rudely. (Trust me--I've been reading pages for the last hour or two and have seen a definite pattern.) My bottom line is that if other users give you an earful about this stuff, LISTEN TO THEM. Don't just push your own side and ignore them! Rules are OK, but when they become a source of constant friction between new, enthusiastic contributors and the high-up admins/wannabes, pay attention! Rufus is right--it's not a welcoming community anymore when that happens; it's effectively a gated community that new guys like me and Rufus either have to navigate the complicated path into (and no matter how good your rules might be, they're really complicated and, as I mentioned before, more subjectively applied than I think you realize), or else get burned out and scared away in the attempt. I know you've probably heard this crap before, and I know your instinctive response is going to be to disagree completely, but please just think about what I'm saying and consider whether you and other admins, and your close followers, could use a bit of working on not coming across as complete jerks.
| |
| ::Finally, I know you're probably aching to mention that Rufus was ignoring repeated warnings. Yeah, I saw that. And that the whole spoilers guideline set is pretty clear. Yes, it is. But my point is that the problem extends to more than just that. As I said, I got burned pretty badly as someone who was trying to understand and interpret the rules correctly when I originally started contributing at Wookieepedia. It's not just vandals, it's not just spammers, it's not just belligerent numbskulls that your rules are catching and tripping. It's also guys like me who just want to participate but are having trouble getting the hang of what is accepted, often with raised eyebrows, and what is condemned and more often than not killed with figurative fire. Whether or not Rufus has been fighting you on a legitimate basis, I feel several of his criticisms of you and Shambala are rather accurate and can be extended to a lot of the "experienced" wiki admins/editors/users. So all I'm asking is that you guys start being a bit more honest with yourselves and not just act like the fault lies solely on the part of the newer users who keep "messing things up." Because I'm pretty sure it isn't. Deal? [[User:Milar Kayne|Milar Kayne]] [[User talk:Milar Kayne|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 09:26, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

| | Just saw your message at [[User talk:LegoK9]]: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? | | :Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of ''privacy''. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in ''[[Doctor Who Magazine]]''. DWM is widely sold among ''Who'' fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki. |
|
| |
|
| == Green coat == | | :Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of [[the Doctor (The Brain of Morbius)|the Doctor]]. [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] [[User talk:Scrooge MacDuck|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC) |
| | ::Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder ''always'' trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host ''any'' images of their covers at ''all'', or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere ''wish'' should not paralyse a whole fandom so. |
|
| |
|
| Thanks for that information.
| | ::I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy. |
|
| |
|
| I remember that discussion, which was for ''[[Totem]]''. | | ::(For the record I ''have'' seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a ''character''; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) | I've read a lot of ST & Benny short stories, and the funny thing about them is that the authors don't feel the least bit hampered by the short page length. There is more variety in storytelling methods in the short stories than in the novels. Sometimes, the authors won't always "fill in the blanks" for the reader by stating outright, "This story features such and such Doctor". But they often do include certain hints with which viewers of the television show will be familiar. Based on my observations, it's much more likely that a story features one of the first 8 Doctors (Anghelides' future Doctor excepted) rather than a possible future incarnation. | Your remarks and advices are duly noted. It seems I went too far with the "crop images to show just the relevant subject" principle. As I told Shambala earlier today, I'm still struggling not to muddle up the Wookieepedia policies and habits—which I've been used to for 8 years—and those that apply here. I'm afraid I relied too much on my assumptions and got on a roll too quickly. --<span style="font-variant: small-caps; font-family: Trebuchet; font-size: 12px">[[User:LelalMekha|<span style="color:darkred;">'''Lelal Mekha'''</span>]]</span> [[User talk:LelalMekha|(Parlour)]] 22:34, September 17, 2014 (UTC)
| | I already made a forum post about this, but maybe this is better. Where did the information on Millennia's blue hair come from? It's been bugging many of us in the Deca fandom for quite some time. I see the edit on that was made in August of 2011, while the page itself was made in 2009. Many people have read through Divided Loyalties, even going as far as to specifically search for "blue hair," and have turned up empty. Was this just some fan thing that everyone agreed upon? Thank you! |

I apologise for my actions as a young teenager and promise that I will be more mature on this site. If it is impossible, then i'm just glad to wrap things up with this wikia. |

| ::Hello, Shambala. I wanted to know your opinion about something I just discovered—and I hope you'll forgive me if that particular matter has already been discussed and solved by the community. I saw the BBC sold [http://www.bbcshop.com/doctor-who/doctor-who-tardis-type-40-plaque/invt/rtdw04 TARDIS type 40 plaques] on its website, saying they are exact replicas of the one that was found on the interior of the Series 5- 7 TARDIS. At the beginning, I was skeptical about this, but I ended up discovering that plaque could indeed be seen in ''[[Amy's Choice (TV story)|Amy's Choice]]''. (It's a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance, and you really have to pause the episode at the right frame to see it, but it's there.) Now, I'm not sure this can be considered canonical, because it may be an Easter egg. That's why I didn't go ahead and didn't create an article on the [[Gallifrey Blackhole Shipyards]]. In fact, I'm doubting of the plaque's canonicity because it says the Doctor's TARDIS was built in 1963. Somehow, I don't think it sounds right, but I may be mistaken. What do you think? Cheers. --<span style="font-variant: small-caps; font-family: Trebuchet; font-size: 12px">[[User:LelalMekha|<span style="color:darkred;">'''Lelal Mekha'''</span>]]</span> [[User talk:LelalMekha|(Parlour)]] 18:27, September 21, 2014 (UTC) | | :: (Heads'up, I've [[User_talk:Manarchy|informed]] Manarchy of the inappropriateness of their VPN shenanigans. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template [[Template:TimelineRevised]] and (originally) [[Template:Order of Centuries]] (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. [[1st century]]) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed). |

| === Prize? ===
| | Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in [[MediaWiki:Fandomdesktop.css|Fandomdesktop.css]] was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] and [[User:OncomingStorm12th|OncomingStorm12th]] to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all. |

| == Adopting various policies for my own Wiki ==
| | My understanding of SMW was that, if a wiki has it enabled, it is fine for that wiki to use it. Certainly, I've spoken a fair bit with users on the Fandom Discord server about it and I was never told not to use it. While I do prefer Cargo, SMW is very useful and I feel it should be used to it's fullest potential. Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as {{tlx|wales crew}} and {{tlx|Speedy rename}} so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually. |

| == Revisiting The Gift == | | So I’ve seen a few wikis with off-topic megathreads (Jurassic Park wiki being one example, with the “Chaos Zone”), which are basically discussions threads where users can post whatever they want that is not related to the subject of the wiki (in this case, posts unrelated to Doctor Who) in the replies to that thread. We could put it in the FANDOM posts category, so it’s easier to find, and we can tell users about it whenever a discussion is or goes off-topic. Maybe we could call it “The Void” too, as it is technically outside of “the universe of the wiki”, as the void was outside the universe of Doctor Who. What do you think about this idea? | With the release of our new [[w:c:community:Help:Community_Apps|Community Apps]], we are preparing to test a new chat feature strictly for Android for the moment, and we have selected your community to be one of the first communities to receive this feature.
| | == Template:Wales crew updates == |
|
| |
|
| This message is simply to notify you that chat will be going live on your Community App. There are a couple of things that you should be aware of concerning the feature. The first is that this chat feature is completely independent from the desktop chat feature available for the desktop experience. The second is that at this early stage of testing, we are not requiring users to sign in to chat using their Wikia usernames. That means that any user can choose any username they want.
| | Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with ''[[The Halloween Apocalypse (TV story)|The Halloween Apocalypse]]'', although the one for ''[[Revolution of the Daleks (TV story)|Revolution of the Daleks]]'' is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at [[Template talk:Wales crew]]. |
|
| |
|
| If you do receive any messages from users who have feedback or bugs to report about the chat feature, please refer them to [[Special:Contact]] or the ‘Send Feedback’ option in the Community App.
| | I gather that [[User:SOTO]] has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template. |
|
| |
|
| If you personally have any questions or concerns about the Chat feature, please contact us through [[Special:Contact]] or the ‘Send Feedback’ option in the Community App.
| | I wonder if you might be willing to put me in touch with SOTO, take a look at it yourself, or point me in the direction of someone else who could help? If it's an option, I would love to be able to edit the template myself instead of endlessly bothering busy admins. Again, I'm very sorry to contact you out of the blue about something you used to maintain ten years ago! |
| Looks like you've got some major problems to deal with regarding the new header. Besides knocking the clock out of position (as I already warned you about on the forum), which makes it invisible on white background pages and making it unclickable (it gets covered by the notifications box), I now notice that your custom colour scheme has resulted in notifications having white text on a white background on pages with white body text (i.e. front page, mainspace, and talk). And your CSS is apparently knocking the Wikia logo out of position. | | Hi Czechout |
| | I know I am in the wrong place however for some reason I am unable to comment on the user rights page but long story short i absolutely and wholeheartedly support bongolium 500 in becoming a admin, I know I haven't really contributed anything yet but this is because I am currently trying to learn the rules and how to include the source of my information but I will hopefully be contributing at some point as not only am I a huge doctor who fan but I sometimes work on doctor who as a stunt performer!!!, Anyway I support Bongolium 500 because as a newcomer to contributing on this wikia he is invaluable for the technical stuff in the form of creating new templates I plan to use his help with templates when I hopefully start contributing. {{Unsigned|Ser0slug}} |

|
| ==Tenth birthday of the wiki==
| | Just wanted to notify you that, [[User:CzechOut]]'s final deadline of "by New Year's Day" having passed, and following in-depth discussion between myself and fellow admins [[User:SOTO]], [[User:OncomingStorm12th]] and [[User:Bongolium500]], we have decided to '''activate [[Tardis:Temporary forums]]''', come what may. A [[MediaWiki:Sitenotice|sitenotice]] has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update [[Tardis:Administrators|our Administrators]] on the situation, as well as [[User:Spongebob456]]. |
|
| |
|
| Hello. It has occurred to me that next month is the tenth anniversary of the [http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Who_Wiki?oldid=2 first creation of this wiki by Freethinker1of1]. Is there going to be a birthday celebration of some description? | | As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be '''easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums''' if we should get those back in the near future after all. |
|
| |
|
| == Quick question ==
| | But it has been ''multiple years'' since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full ''year'' ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. I don't think anyone's at fault, least of all you; it is clear that you've had the Wiki's best interests at heart all through this. But the fact is thatthe time has come to realise that this overly-optimistic strategy of endlessly putting off an imperfect temporary solution in pursuit of a perfect one "soon"… has failed, resoundingly. It is time for a different approach. The Tardis community are ''owed'' a different approach. |

| | We [[four surviving elementals|four elementals]] behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step '''is not intended to create more work for them unbidden'''. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any ''obligation'' to do so. |

| I've received an alert about posting in all caps on a few pages I've edited over the last day or so and at first I thought it was the character [[ARC]] that triggered it (I've never had a problem with getting that alert on pages where I've typed his name before), but soon realized that [[SERVEYOUinc]] was setting it off either instead of or in addition to. [[User:Mewiet|Mewiet]] [[User talk:Mewiet|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 19:15, March 25, 2015 (UTC)

| :Actually, I wasn't the one who created the SERVEYOUinc page, though after I noticed it I was trying to be consistent with the spelling. [[User:Mewiet|Mewiet]] [[User talk:Mewiet|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 03:41, March 26, 2015 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| :It looks like SERVEYOUinc is indeed the correct spelling. It's first shown on a business card in ''[[What He Wants... (comic story)|What He Wants...]]'': File:SERVEYOUinc1.jpg. As you noted, comics often write in all caps, which is done here as well, but they make a point of having the SERVEYOU in large letters, with the INC in tiny letters. Two more illustrations of that card are shown several pages later. In ''[[The Sound of Our Voices (comic story)|The Sound of Our Voices]]'' the SERVEYOUinc logo appears in a computer screen: File:SERVEYOUinc2.jpg. This one explicitly shows the first two words in capitals and the inc in lowercase. A stylized version of the same can be seen on their head office in ''[[The Rise and Fall (comic story)|The Rise and Fall]]'': File:SERVEYOUinc 3 .jpg. All of which align with the fact that it's typed as "SERVEYOUinc" on the "Previously..." recaps on the inside covers. | == Bernice Summerfield books and audios ==
| |
| | |
| Sorry, but I have to say this:
| |
| | |
| You are a rude, arrogant person, and a liar.
| |
| | |
| The current version of AHistory does indeed contain the section I quoted, on pp. 526-528. Your claim that it doesn't exist is not true, just as your claim that it doesn't include the word "terminology". Perhaps you are confusing it with the "Extras" that could be downloaded?
| |
| | |
| In any case, your abrupt manner, and then immediately locking the discussion allowing a reply shows your true intentions. You don't want discussion, you don't want anything. Your claim that nothing has been added in three weeks is also a lie. The discussion was still ongoing, you had talked yourself in circles.
| |
| | |
| And then you simply locked the thread stating that I was wrong, and that nothing had been said.
| |
| | |
| here's what I said: This website says that anything that uses something they don't have the rights to isn't a Valid Source. This website also claims that if a range of stories keeps using other names for key elements of the DWU because they don't have the legal right to refer to them by name, then those stories probably shouldn't be included.
| |
| | |
| Your response seems to be that "the Benny stories are supposed to be set in the DWU" or that "Paul Cornell owns Benny", or that "Plague Herd of Excelis uses the same Excelis from Excelis Dawns/Rising/Decays".
| |
| | |
| To both of those, that is not the point. That was NEVER the point. The point, as repeated many times had nothing to do with Benny herself, or who owns Benny or Chris Cwej or Roz. It was that these stories never had the legal right to use the TARDIS, the Time Lords, the Ice Warriors etc., but they used them anyway, only NEVER referring to them them by their actual names.
| |
| | |
| And then suddenly according to you, using key elements of the DWU without proper licence or authorisation is perfectly ok, as long as they never refer to them by name. Which is the exact opposite of what it says on Valid Source.s You then point out that the recent audios with Benny use these terms. But these audios you use as your supposed evidence are later stories, probably the first story where the Benny audios got the rights to use concepts that '''they had not had the rights to before'''. The point, AGAIN, was about those original 23 novels, and the first few years of BF books and audios.
| |
| | |
| However, you have now locked the discussion having failed to prove anything other than your own lack of interest to engage in an actual discussion. You haven't made any points, only battle cries. You have lied, claiming that things as not as they are, trying to claim that something was supposed to be "humorous", and then tried to confuse more recent releases with the original releases, the ones actually being discussed.
| |
| | |
| Look, you want to include these stories despite the fact that they explicitly break the very rules that you yourself created, fine. It's your wiki. But at least have the common decency and respect for other peoples' intelligence to say that it's "because you say so", rather than acting as though you actually made any valid points to back up your position in the thread that you chose to lock before any sort of agreement had been reached.

| Hi! Thanks for the information you posted on my page about FASA. I was looking for something I could use as a '''current''' reason why it's not valid. I had read the old arguments, but their use of the word "canon" kept me from using them as a reason.

More importantly, I recall you offering me the activity of making a page enclosing all 50th Anniversary stories... I'm trying to do a (two years short) vid on all of stories, but I remembered that there's no list of the stories or category for them anymore, so I can't remember all the stories. Didn't you have a link for your bot removals? Also I'd be fine with making that page if you told me what you wanted. I was wondering if you could help me create one for the Doctor Who Wikia. It should look almost identical to the Stub template this Wikia uses.

| Another question I have is how to make the Language (InterWiki links) as country flags rather than text-only. If you could help me with some of these things, I'd be really grateful and it would make the different Doctor Who Wikias look more professional.

| == Unnamed planets and such ==
| |
| | |
| Hi! If you recall, at [[Thread:137098]] it was established that articles beginning with names like "Unnamed planet", "Unnamed alien" and "Unnamed species" need to be renamed to remove the word "unnamed". In the thread, you mentioned that it's an easy job by bot.
| |
| | |
| [[User:OttselSpy25]] has recently put a rename tag on several of these articles, so I thought I'd ask if you have the time to take care of this. If not, I can do it manually. It will take some time, but the thread is over two years old anyway so it's not like there's a rush.
| |
| | |
| And if we do this, how would it affect the dab page at [[Unnamed planet]]?

| : I would argue that the dab actually is one of the few pages that should keep the 'unnamed' in the title, as a dab simply named 'Planet' would suggestedly need every planet both named an unnamed. | == LEGO Dimensions ==
| |
| We've been having a discussion at [[Thread:176459]] about ''[[LEGO Dimensions (video game)|LEGO Dimensions]]'' and we've reached a semi-consensus that, baring the odd Easter egg and the non-level based "world," it is possible to write a definitive narrative of the game as meant by the creators, as well of the fact and that the game sticks close enough to the DWU to have it not be deemed invalid because of it's basis in the 'LEGO' trademark.
| |
| | |
| The main consensus on the game is that the narrative fuction of the game is more important to if it's valid or not to if it looks all LEGO-ey. However, our decision sets many precedents on character customizations and Easter eggs (basically deciding that the former is in most cases part of the later and the later isn't part of the narative) and thus it's been agreed that we need you in on this before we even vote on the issue. [[User:OttselSpy25|OS25]] ([[User Talk:OttselSpy25|talk to me, baby.]]) 05:10, November 9, 2015 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| :Okay, didn't think that closing the discussion after making one decisive comment was something that you'd do. It seems a bit odd to close off a discussion questioning policy because "nah, we've decided this policy already." In fact, I'd say that the discussion arouse many issues with the policy that needs to be addressed and could have been fixed there. The ultimate outcome of this issue is that one day we'll get legitimate gaming out of ''Who'' that we deem invalid for small reasons, like choosing if pole a or pole b is better for climbing or deciding if ''Companion a'' or ''companion b'' should press a button. Perhaps "one day" is a bit much as it's clearly what's happening here. Furthermore, by the logic we've been putting games like this through, most every ''Who'' game ever made should be marked as invalid, the only ones remaining being lame, boring ones. We're extensively setting ourselves up for an entire genre of ''Who'' material being marked as a ''roleplaying adventure!'' because of tiny, itsy bitsy decisions which do not effect the narrative in the slightest but apparently make them invalid on this site and a basic misunderstanding of how video games ''work''. I'm only bringing this up here because it ''would'' have and ''could'' have and ''has'' been brought up there, but the sudden closing of that discussion despite months of consensus has left the issue hanging off a cliff. I will never comprehend the continued shutting down of discussions on this site because they strive away from what is "''right''" by the minds of the few, while legitimate worries are aroused by the mainstream editors on the site.
| |
|
| |
| :But okay. [[User:OttselSpy25|OS25]] ([[User Talk:OttselSpy25|talk to me, baby.]]) 23:00, November 9, 2015 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| :: I can understand that point of view, and I suppose it's good to have the discussion closed -- on the other note, however, while the discussion was started in July the game wasn't released until ''October'', so all discussions before that point technically didn't matter and shouldn't have happened, as they were vague guesses off of the trailers and publicity pics. Furthermore, the ''rest'' of the Who levels were not released until a few weeks ago. So the discussion ''really'' has been going on for either less than a month or more than a month. That's be like if we started a discussion on a topic of the upcoming Christmas special now and then shut it down two days after the special aired because "it was open long enough."
| |
| | |
| :: I also hope you won't mind if some of the main discussions of the forum that did not have closure are (at some point) moved to another discussion about Video Games at a wider capacity, and how our treatment of them could be flawed. I truly believe that many of the issues aroused do need discussed, and I think that many of the policies envisioned within the last few weeks have been strong, even if they're different from what we have now.
| |
| | |
| :: Interesting to note as well that if the Doc is in the second Lego movie, our discussion didn't exclude that being a valid source. [[User:OttselSpy25|OS25]] ([[User Talk:OttselSpy25|talk to me, baby.]]) 02:42, November 10, 2015 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| ::: The reason that I wanted to have some of the topics in the discussion moved to another forum is that I don't believe that many of the topics that we brought up were truly covered in the final consensus of the forum. We heavily discussed possible changed to policy in terms of Easter eggs, swappable characters, and other issues. I feel like these ideas could be explored further and were only touched upon recently, and the final decision (which stuck to the precedents of previous discussions) did not cover these ideas -- some would argue (as did) that the ideas got far closer to how to ''actually'' cover video games on a wikia site. I was surprised that these talks of policy changes and alternates to our gaming code weren't already pushed off to another discussion as occurs in most instances of questioning policies. My point is that I don't believe that those parts of the discussion were actually concluded.
| |
| | |
| ::: Again, the issue at hand here is ''not'' that you disagreed with any of my beliefs -- it is that you acted as if nothing new or nothing noteworthy had occurred in the discussion when this is far from true. We had in fact envisioned a way to seamlessly cover these stories and to more competently cover this genre of media in general. We had gotten many admins in on the decision and had a pretty strong consensus that it was going to work. To then have the discussion shut down because ''you'' didn't find anything interesting is a bit of an insult really, as you had not even brought up the supposed changes or basically any of the complex discussions that had occurred in the forum. Furthermore, I will not be lowering the amount of work that I am willing to put into this genre of ''Who'' media because you dislike them.
| |
| | |
| ::: On the topic of NOTDWU, I would also like to ask you to look over the very important (and I ''think'' pretty logical) assessment of the prefix as [[Thread:180396]]. The current consensus at that forum is that [[INVALID]] or [[NOTVALID]] would be a far less confusion and more accurate prefix, as NOTDWU itself represents the now abandoned canon policy more than the validity concept. Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1?[[edit source]]
Hello!
I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.
DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and User:OncomingStorm12th, User:SOTO and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but not block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him.
He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner User:Najawin) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on the talk page I mentioned earlier, because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions opposite to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion.
So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?
To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment.
…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls[[edit source]]
Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. When the edit completed a big message appeared about "change propagation" and the "job queue". I don't know enough about the code of MediaWiki to know what this really means, or if it will affect anything, but seeing as it appears important and you control the technical aspects of the wiki, I thought you should know. I hope it didn't mess up anything... Chubby Potato ☎ 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't know either. NightmareofEden ☎ 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Good to know. I did just make another post on the matter just before I received your message, so feel free to delete that. I would like to ask you politely to unlock the initial discussion though, as you did ask for ideas. Regards,

Right right, I see!
Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of not holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that your own quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought you had changed your mind about this. I have no particular wish that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought you were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.
But thanks for the explanation, all the same! Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?
To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.
- Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder always trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host any images of their covers at all, or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere wish should not paralyse a whole fandom so.
- I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.
- (For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Incidentally, this is unrelated to the above matter, but I am still waiting on you for that Slack invite, unless you already sent it and my spam folder ate it up. (If you've misplaced my email address, it's still one of my most recent messages to you on Discord.) Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:57, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you!

Hello. You might not remember me but my account is called Manarchy. I'm currently using a VPN to talk to you and i wanted to talk about my ban. It's been a couple of years since i even visited this wikia and I realised that I had grown more mature as the years went by. If it is possible, is there any way you could unban my account? I apologise for my actions as a young teenager and promise that I will be more mature on this site. If it is impossible, then i'm just glad to wrap things up with this wikia.

Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fix[[edit source]]
Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).

Re: Some of your recent changes and proposals[[edit source]]
Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in Fandomdesktop.css was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with Scrooge MacDuck and OncomingStorm12th to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all.
The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.
The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.
Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as {{wales crew}} and {{Speedy rename}} so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually.
Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now.
I hope that you are now feeling better on the medical front. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) ☎ 07:41, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Something else that I've just remembered about my use of Fandomdesktop.css is that I wrote a lot of it when Oasis was still the primary skin and I didn't want anything I was writing for FandomDesktop to have side effects on Oasis. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) ☎ 07:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello, I'm glad you're back and I hope you're feeling better now. I know you're still fixing up the tech and visual stuff, but I just wanted to let you know that MediaWiki:Anonnotice was oddly displaying a portion of an infobox which I determined to be from Popidius Celsinus. I hadn't even been on that page. It only happens sometimes but it's very strange. Chubby Potato ☎ 05:02, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Hey, hope you've been alright with the (gestures around toward the abstract) everything lately. This is actually a message from multiple admin (myself, user:OncomingStorm12th and user:Scrooge MacDuck), though it is me writing this. (Don't worry too much about it.)
So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up temporary forums, so we can still get the essential discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at Tardis talk:Temporary forums, where others have chimed in (including user:Tangerineduel, who also thinks it's a good idea).
Basically, six slots would be open for new discussions (we actually have a list of priorities going). In the spirit of Doctor Who: Flux, rather like the Mouri in the Temple of Atropos, all forum discussion passes through these spaces (beyond the scope of talk pages). When one closes, its spot will be opened for another to take its place.
[[Tardis:Temporary forums]]
would be the Hub, with
- 1. Links to these six spaces;
- 2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);
- 3. An archive section (with table format, showing resolves/unresolved, and a quick summary of the closing remarks).
All in one place. This will help with moving things over to the Actual Forums. And there will be a strict time limit on these discussions: three weeks until closing time. When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.
This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on)[1].
The thing is, we just wanted to make sure you weren't just about to hit that big friendly button before proceeding. No point in all this, after all, if there won't be time enough for round one before the next stage of forum evolution's upon us again. We were thinking about opening the temporary forums on the Sunday after next, around Doctor Who time[2] That'd be Sunday Jan 23rd, 19:30 UTC. Unless you think you'll have the Newest Forums up and running by then?
Happy New Year, by the way!

- ↑ It will also make sure these will be non-trivial discussions for us to pass over. To be added to the list, a new proposal needs to meet two criteria: It must... 1: be actionable (within the three week time limit, it should be possible to hash out), 2: affect a large number of pages.
- ↑ Which is to say, around the time we'd start the page for a new episode of Doctor Who. Bottom of the hour, as you once explained to me.
- Perfectly alright! I'm in no rush personally, but the community's been calling for things to move forward again. (Obviously, no extra steps would be better.) Glad to hear you're doing well. It's been a while.

Off-topic megathread for discussions[[edit source]]
So I’ve seen a few wikis with off-topic megathreads (Jurassic Park wiki being one example, with the “Chaos Zone”), which are basically discussions threads where users can post whatever they want that is not related to the subject of the wiki (in this case, posts unrelated to Doctor Who) in the replies to that thread. GaganTopia ☎ 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- : Name a list of wikis I have been banned on and when I was banned on them. And my actions on other wikis should not impact how I am on this one, as I've done nothing wrong here, it's not fair, and I do make edits when I see pages to be edited. GaganTopia ☎ 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Talk page number... things[[edit source]]
The number displayed on the talk page "thingy" on pages seems to be off currently - possible because of a recent Fandom update, so I thought you were the best person to ask. It seems to display "1" for a while after more messages have been added, which certainly throws me off, as I've used this number to confirm if I've received a response in the past. Do you have any clue what could have caused this? (2 screenshots are displayed below for illustrative purposes)

There is no legitimate reason to remove the image gallery from the Pilot Episode's article.[[edit source]]
I looked up the image rules, and there is no rule stating that only articles of valid stories can have image galleries. People will want to see the changes between the pilot and the broadcast. ApertureEmployee427 ☎ 23:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Hey, how have you been? User:Najawin recently alerted me over personal/potentially doxxing information being added to one of our pages recently by an anonymous user. Since then, I've protected the page so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it (which thankfully stopped the info being added again), but Najawin further contacted me pointing out that we should probably delete said revisions from the page (which I don't believe is something I am able to do.
Would you mind helping out on this? OncomingStorm12th ☎ 18:41, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- Just to note, for the technical bit of this getting done, the first edit to add potentially doxxing information was on 26 May 2022, and more information was added over time. Nobody noticed it aside from an IP user until this past September when I was checking some old conversations I had and links in them. I promptly removed the info, but someone then added it back. Clearing out the original May edit and all since then is probably the way to go. Najawin ☎ 06:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Template:Wales crew updates[[edit source]]
Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with The Halloween Apocalypse, although the one for Revolution of the Daleks is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at Template talk:Wales crew.
I gather that User:SOTO has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template.
Starkidsoph ☎ 23:45, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

– The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ser0slug (talk • contribs) .

Temporary Forums Are Live![[edit source]]
Hello!
Just wanted to notify you that, User:CzechOut's final deadline of "by New Year's Day" having passed, and following in-depth discussion between myself and fellow admins User:SOTO, User:OncomingStorm12th and User:Bongolium500, we have decided to activate Tardis:Temporary forums, come what may. A sitenotice has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update our Administrators on the situation, as well as User:Spongebob456.
As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums if we should get those back in the near future after all.
But it has been multiple years since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full year ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. The Tardis community are owed a different approach.
We four elementals behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step is not intended to create more work for them unbidden. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any obligation to do so.
Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

'Which Way Out?' short story[[edit source]]
Hello, I have been looking for a certain Doctor Who story for a long time. I mean 'Which Way Out?' from TV Comic Holiday Special 1976. It's hard to find any information about this story, but I did find that you wrote an article about it on the TARDIS Wiki, so I assume you've read it. I was wondering if you might still have access to this story? I will be very grateful for your answer.
