Jellyfish! was the first story in the audio anthology No Place Like Home, produced by Big Finish Productions.
It was notably written by Neve McIntosh and Dan Starkey, who play Madame Vastra and Strax, and also featured Catrin Stewart in her role as Jenny Flint. This story picks up where Doppelgängers [+]Loading...["Doppelgängers (audio story)"] left off, with Vastra having been poisoned by "Doppel-Jenny".
This was Neve McIntosh's first-ever DWU writing credit.
Publisher's summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Gang head to the coast for Madame Vastra to convalesce. But their holiday proves far from restful. This Cornish village is home to suspicious locals, strange storms and wreckers. Most dangerous of all, something lurks in the seas – something with a mysterious hold over Vastra...

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Strax is briefly mistaken for a dog, and later dons tartan swimming trunks, which he views as armour against the sea.
- He is unable to swim, due to his high density as a Sontaran, and simply sinks to the bottom.
- Strax confuses Earth jellyfish with "Rutan scum".
- Vastra has a craving for lobster, though she later does not remember this.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- As a fan of Sherlock Holmes and Daphne du Maurier, co-writer Neve McIntosh described this script as "mash[ing] together" The Lion's Mane and Jamaica Inn, with science-fiction elements, like robots, layered on top.[1]
- Dan Starkey calls it a "heady mixture". He says his contribution was mainly advising McIntosh on working with the audio medium. Script editor Matt Fitton was also, of course, involved.[1]
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Vastra's recovery from the theosonite poisoning is central to this story. She was poisoned by Doppel-Jenny in AUDIO: Doppelgängers [+]Loading...["Doppelgängers (audio story)"].
- Jenny accepts being called "Mrs Flint-Vastra", and later calls Vastra her wife. She recently called into question the validity of their wedding in AUDIO: Doppelgängers [+]Loading...["Doppelgängers (audio story)"], having been replaced during the ceremony by a Zygon imposter in AUDIO: Till Death Us Do Part [+]Loading...["Till Death Us Do Part (audio story)"], but nonetheless considers them married, as established since TV: A Good Man Goes to War [+]Loading...["A Good Man Goes to War (TV story)"].
- Strax notes that the Rutans are the sworn enemy of the Sontarans. They were first mentioned in TV: The Time Warrior [+]Loading...["The Time Warrior (TV story)"], and first appeared in TV: Horror of Fang Rock [+]Loading...["Horror of Fang Rock (TV story)"].
