| ==Font size changes in new CSS== | | == Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1? == |
| FYI, it's pretty bad form to change the size/style of text when it is a link and you hover over it. I had a few cases on the RecentChanges page where the bold changed the font width, and my cursor was no longer over the link to click on it. The link text should not change in such a manner, as the width of things changes awkwardly. The best thing to do might be to simply change the color, not the style of the text. -- [[User:Sulfur|sulfur]] 18:45, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

I believe that if editing on the TARDIS Index File – or any other Wikia for that matter – is worth doing, it's worth doing well. | ==Imdb==
| | DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and [[User:OncomingStorm12th]], [[User:SOTO]] and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but ''not'' block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him. |
| Something is up with [[Template:imdb name]]. The gap between the name and the link seems to have grown. I'm not sure if this is a side affect of the new design, or merely something I haven't noticed before. | | He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner [[User:Najawin]]) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on [[Talk:List of recurring Doctor Who concepts not owned by the BBC#Original Mammoths|the talk page I mentioned earlier]], because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions ''opposite'' to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion. |

| | So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what ''happened''? What precisely did he do? When? Where? |
| I though I did add a reason. I unprotected it because it's already been published, it came out in July last year. Now unless we a policy that protects books that have been out for over 6 months now form being edited by new and unregistered contributors, I admit I made a mistakes. But I saw no need in protecting a articles on a books that, like I said had been out for 6 months, and I never understood why you reverted a User's contribution to that page. | ==Canon policy rewrite==
| | To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or ''questioning'' your decision; if he did indeed break [[T:SOCK]], there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes. |
| I tried to read through this and take both the "new user POV" and from a long time editor view where I would need to say to another user "it's stated [here] in the canon policy why X isn't allowed". | |
|
| |
|
| The intro is a little too wordy.

Nor do I want to think about (though I have read) Tenth Doctor/Rose slash and I also don't want to consider the Doctor/Master slash (for which I blame the DW forums and DeviantArt for showing me). I think maybe just replace that sentence with "some fan's fan fiction".

|
| As much as I dislike lists for some things, a list is what is needed at the forefront of the canon policy; "this is what is canon", "this is what isn't". A clear identification of what is and what isn't, the discussions are good to explain but there needs to be some simplicity to this as well, I know that's the aim of all the explanations, but we need to think to the enthusiastic/excited/irritated editor who needs/wants to know what they can start writing about.
| | Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing [[:Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls]], I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. When the edit completed a big message appeared about "change propagation" and the "job queue". I don't know enough about the code of MediaWiki to know what this really means, or if it will affect anything, but seeing as it appears important and you control the technical aspects of the wiki, I thought you should know. I hope it didn't mess up anything... [[User:Chubby Potato|Chubby Potato]] [[User talk:Chubby Potato|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC) |

| ===What's generally canon=== | | == Something odd == |
| I can see your logic behind the statement, but it's ''very'' vague in terms of new users. Clear lists or clear info is likely better. Often the copyright notices are tiny or in the small print of things that it can be missed.
| |
| Also there's a variety of permutations of © BBC (BBC Worldwide Limited etc)
| |
| Looking at the Lost Stories Box Set, the only things that are actually listed as "© BBC" are the Doctor Who logo, the TARDIS image and the Doctor Who theme. Then there's "Doctor Who (word marks, logos and devices) and TARDIS, are trade marks of the British Broadcasting Corporation and are used under licence."
| |
| Alternatively if we ''just'' say that it has to have © BBC there ''may'' be people trying to claim I dunno a ''Top Gear'' segment featuring the Daleks as it counting.
| |
|
| |
|
| All of which is a little vague.
| | I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, I don't know either. [[User:NightmareofEden|NightmareofEden]] [[User talk:NightmareofEden|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC) |

| ===Things we don't consider canon=== | | == Re: Discussions use == |
| 1. Chuck Fanfic.net as being outside the scope as well (as it's listed on one or more of the other policies), also maybe ''everything'' on DW Expanded (and linked off to it)
| | Right right, I see! |
| 3. Nothing exactly wrong here, I'd just soften the language a little bit.
| |
| 4. Needs and example of Big Finish's work we ''don't'' cover.
| |
| 8. Do we? I thought we chucked it all into [[Doctor Who parodies]].
| |
| 10. Should have a clear statement about special editions (like ''The Curse of Fenric'' and the CGI stuff like ''The Ark in Space'' and ''Dalek Invasion of Earth''.
| |
| 11. Needs to be clearer, possibly with an example.
| |
| 12. What of stuff like ''[[Doctor Who: Cybermen]]'', where I think we get the names of certain articles like [[CyberTelosian]] from? Use of these references texts, should perhaps ''not'' use the REF tag but actually be sourced using the <nowiki><ref></nowiki> tags?
| |
|
| |
|
| Other stuff; Have we finished the discussion concerning Charity publications? If not ''when'' we have a ruling that should be singled out and noted.
| | Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of ''not'' holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that ''your own'' quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought ''you'' had changed your mind about this. I have no particular ''wish'' that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought ''you'' were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there. |

| This has good info, but again a little too wordy, I'd strip it down to be statements rather than rhetorical questions.
| |
|
| |
|
| Once more professionally produced parody…? I think we need a definite ruling on this as it implies it can have its own article rather than just the DW parodies page. There's also stuff like Trock, which is often professionally produced and vaguely parody.
| | == Re: DWM == |
| | Just saw your message at [[User talk:LegoK9]]: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there? |
|
| |
|
| Parody is a rather wide scope, I'm concerned about what floodgates we're opening with statements like this.
| | To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] [[User talk:Scrooge MacDuck|<span title="Talk to me">☎</span>]] 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC) |
| | :Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of ''privacy''. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in ''[[Doctor Who Magazine]]''. DWM is widely sold among ''Who'' fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki. |
|
| |
|
| ===Final thoughts=== | | :Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of [[the Doctor (The Brain of Morbius)|the Doctor]]. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of [[Peter Capaldi]] as the [[Twelfth Doctor]], would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? | I think we need a 'what this wiki covers' page as I think a few of the sections of the canon policy are trying to do two things; say what is not canon while still stating what we do cover and why we cover it. | | ::Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder ''always'' trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host ''any'' images of their covers at ''all'', or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere ''wish'' should not paralyse a whole fandom so. |
|
| |
|
| There needs to be a list akin to what we have at the moment to clearly say what we cover. The Allowed list on the sub-page is good and clear. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 15:30, March 10, 2011 (UTC)
| | ::I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy. |
|
| |
|
| :I understand more what you mean (now that you've explained it to me), sometimes I sort of…don't see what direction things are aiming for. | | ::(For the record I ''have'' seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a ''character''; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) | :I also didn't mean to make massive demands for you to re-write (or write) large chunks of things! I almost a few times while reading through your example clicked "edit" and started to change things, but wasn't really sure where you were going with it, so I thought I'd stick with analysis and comment.
| |
| :Is IDW really not included…oh, it isn't is it….hmmm. I see what you mean. Though "This section is still in flux, as the policy is still under debate." is noted at the top of the "valid resource" and no where on the page does it say that IDW '''isn't''' canon, it's just not included (I know I'm deliberately splitting hairs here).
| |
| :I do like the use of the word "narrative" (a little left field comment), but as a word for framing the canon policy it makes logical sense (though that just may be me).

| I've just been reading your sandbox around canon policy, everything seems fine with it to me however I have a problem with your non-canon status of the Curse of Fatal Death. While the story is essentially a parody, [[EDA]]: ''[[The Tomorrow Windows]]'' portrays the events of this story as occuring in an alternate timeline for the Eighth Doctor's immediate future. | Firstly, I don't like the way that your suggesting that I'm makling things up to get my point across. Although I can't find the forum page you can see the outcome of the discussion on any page related to the story as The Thirteenth Doctor placed a note in the behind the scenes section explaining why the non-canon tag is no longer on the page. My whole reasoning for sending you the message about the Curse of Fatal Death topic was so that you were aware of previous decisions towards that story and to not blatantly disregard them when imposing new policy. My message was more of a heads up to other things that may affect what you are trying to impose and not an attack on what your doing to the canon policy. --[[User:Revanvolatrelundar|Revan]]\[[User_talk:Revanvolatrelundar|Talk]] 18:00, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

| | Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in [[MediaWiki:Fandomdesktop.css|Fandomdesktop.css]] was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with [[User:Scrooge MacDuck|Scrooge MacDuck]] and [[User:OncomingStorm12th|OncomingStorm12th]] to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all. |
|
| |
|
| ::Thanks for working on it so quickly.
| | The background was not added by me but rather [[User:SOTO|SOTO]]. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure. |
| ::I'm not sure if the TOC being the colour of the background works, as it makes the TOC look like a template of its own, not sure if it's the result of the colour of the TOC being layered on top of the background or what.
| |
| ::I toyed with two solutions; chuck the NOTOC on the top to just rid the pages of contents as it's not ''really'' needed on the quote page, or alternatively force the TOC to hide on that page by default. The latter I couldn't work out how to do for that page alone though. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 15:28, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
| |
|
| |
|
| :::I just mentioned the colour issue as it seems a large change to the TOC for one page. As we don't generally have templates that run the full width of the page on regular pages (the qotw page is the outlier in this case). That changing the qotw page/the template to suite the TOC might be better than changing the TOC to suite this one page. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 15:44, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
| | The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a [[Template:SourceFilter|set of templates]] into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here. |
|
| |
|
| ::::Maybe that's how the TOC functions, there is a logic to it. Or rather there was a logic to it before Wikia forced the fixed width on pages. I'll stop pestering you and leave you to find a solution. Though there's always my simplistic solution of getting rid of the TOC! (Not ideal, but would fix the problem...). --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 16:22, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
| | My understanding of SMW was that, if a wiki has it enabled, it is fine for that wiki to use it. Certainly, I've spoken a fair bit with users on the Fandom Discord server about it and I was never told not to use it. While I do prefer Cargo, SMW is very useful and I feel it should be used to it's fullest potential. Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as {{tlx|wales crew}} and {{tlx|Speedy rename}} so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually. |
|

| | Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now. |

| :It's not clear looking at what you get on the page and what's written in the MoS. The rule and the reality have become two quite separate things.
| |
| :The TOC's appearance will not be enough of a reason for people to follow the MoS. The rules need to make sense and need to follow through onto the pages in big statements so people can follow the how and whys of the rules.
| |
| :The headings are a different colour and a different font to the main body text, that should be enough for readers to discern a difference. I ''really'' think that the headings should follow how they're typed, while this isn't a change in the MoS it changes how the MoS's rules are shown to have affect on the wiki. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 14:09, March 22, 2011 (UTC) | |

| :::I did actually reconsider what I said yesterday. I was a little too quick to jump the gun, some things I see it churns over in my imagination, I am on occasion a little hasty, so I apologise for wishing to rush to the forums. Also musing on it, consistency is better and what I had forgotten (and is what is clear in the MoS, and it wouldn't have crossed my mind that you'd change it out of spite, your edits are always well considered) is that by having it hard coded we can change it in the future should we need to.
| | So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up [[Tardis talk:Temporary forums|temporary forums]], so we can still get the ''essential'' discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at [[Tardis talk:Temporary forums]], where others have chimed in (including [[user:Tangerineduel]], who ''also'' thinks it's a good idea). |
| :::And, you're right you/your bot has made far more changes than me and my humble fingers and mouse.

| :::As I've said before I have a very (''very'') limited knowledge of CSS (which basically amounts to read in the Community Forums/other wikis, implement and hope I've not broken anything, when on the rare occasion(s) I did something). So I probably wouldn't be able to change it if I wanted to hence my jumping the gun a little on that front.
| |
| :::The only real question I have, would there be a way to ''force'' a lower case? I'm just thinking on stuff like McCoy, where you need a lower case (I don't know the situation where we'd need Sylv's name in a sub-header), but I was watching the credits of ''Silver Nemesis'' and realised that all the credits are in capitals, except that letter of his name, and just wandered if we had the capacity, should we need to, to implement a lower case. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 14:26, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

| ==The headings==
| | Happy New Year, by the way!{{User:SOTO/sig}} 21:19, 14 January 2022 (UTC) |
| I only have one real concern about the new fonts. It's the headings. I personally don't think it's should be in capitals and should remain how it was. I don't understand why it was changed, the only problem(s) we had when the original headings was Users that put the headings in title case instead of sentence case (which most Users changed when they saw them) and the other problem, although I never saw it as one, was the use of continuous sub headings (i.e on the [[Companion]] page). Could the headings have not be formatted to be a bit larger instead of changing it to all cap locks?
| |
|
| |
|
| IMO, the capitalised headings lock dead awful. It looks like it a website for the near-blind. The headings look daft, the tabs along the top (mainly lifestyle and the link to your User page) run into each other as do their links in their drop down menus. (Mainly in Gaming). Also, because of the size of the new ''heading two'' some headings now run onto either two or three lines.

I am still have trouble with the overlays of the ''Lifestyle'' and ''Mini-mitch'' and in the wiki drop down menus. I reset my cache, but it had no effect. I'm using Crome, and I've downloaded Firefox to see if that makes a difference. By continuous sub headings (not the best way I could have put it) I was meaning a page that used all of the headings. | | So I’ve seen a few wikis with off-topic megathreads (Jurassic Park wiki being one example, with the “Chaos Zone”), which are basically discussions threads where users can post whatever they want that is not related to the subject of the wiki (in this case, posts unrelated to Doctor Who) in the replies to that thread. We could put it in the FANDOM posts category, so it’s easier to find, and we can tell users about it whenever a discussion is or goes off-topic. Maybe we could call it “The Void” too, as it is technically outside of “the universe of the wiki”, as the void was outside the universe of Doctor Who. What do you think about this idea? | | Hi Czechout |
| Hi. I haven't done much reasearch, but has the wiki ever considered using badges? I've been looking around wikia and lots of wikis have started using them. If you don't know what on earth I'm talking about, badges are these things like awards and a leaderboard is created for the people that have the most. I'm telling you cos you seem to be a "Wiki Brain" (no offense!). Thanks. [[User:Ghastly9090|Ghastly9090]] 16:06, March 29, 2011 (UTC)
| | I know I am in the wrong place however for some reason I am unable to comment on the user rights page but long story short i absolutely and wholeheartedly support bongolium 500 in becoming a admin, I know I haven't really contributed anything yet but this is because I am currently trying to learn the rules and how to include the source of my information but I will hopefully be contributing at some point as not only am I a huge doctor who fan but I sometimes work on doctor who as a stunt performer!!!, Anyway I support Bongolium 500 because as a newcomer to contributing on this wikia he is invaluable for the technical stuff in the form of creating new templates I plan to use his help with templates when I hopefully start contributing. {{Unsigned|Ser0slug}} |

A [[MediaWiki:Sitenotice|sitenotice]] has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update [[Tardis:Administrators|our Administrators]] on the situation, as well as [[User:Spongebob456]]. |

| | As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be '''easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums''' if we should get those back in the near future after all. |
|

|
| Since you brought the matter up, I should inform you that I have removed all references to that site from the Series 6 page, and replaced them. Has it been added to the list of website that cannot be used as a source. You were right about, most recently they've been using Spotlight CV as an source of an actor, but going back a few months, all they used was IMDB, so i removed these actors form the Series 6 page since no other source could be found. They also use they forums, and other website forums as sources for their spoilers, so you were right to stop linking to it :). | | But it has been ''multiple years'' since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full ''year'' ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. I don't think anyone's at fault, least of all you; it is clear that you've had the Wiki's best interests at heart all through this. But the fact is thatthe time has come to realise that this overly-optimistic strategy of endlessly putting off an imperfect temporary solution in pursuit of a perfect one "soon"… has failed, resoundingly. It is time for a different approach. The Tardis community are ''owed'' a different approach. |

| While I appreciate your efforts, I don't think we need to over automate everything, even if it is a no image tag, the lack of an tag/image category (and the subsequent uncategorised images page) is as good as a no image tag, I mean a no licence tag doesn't mean anything more than the lack of a tag. Our various policies already provide us with the option to delete images without tags, ''and'' the image policy provides instruction about the how, what and why of image licensing and ''and'' the drop down menu and notices around it say pretty clearly what you need to do. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 11:49, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

| I'm really liking the new stub templates - fantastic job! However, they cause a concern for me: White spacing; especially at the bottom of the pages. | At the very start of the book the Eighth Doctor goes to check on the Eye of Harmony and he sees a crystal on the side of the crack in the eye. The crystal is the Master and it gives the Doctor the amnesia that starts the story.
| |
| | |
| "In the stone corner of the closed Eye, something gleamed like a tear. The<br />Doctor leaned forward to study it more closely. It was solid, like a tiny gleaming diamond. Surely it must<br />irritate the Eye, thought the Doctor.<br />Like those gritty fragments children call 'sleep' that they sometimes find in their eyes upon awakening.<br />He leaned closer still.<br />The little diamond started to blaze even more brightly. It glowed and burned and spun itself into a bolt of pure<br />energy that lashed out and upwards and flashed into the Doctor's eyes, searing across his brain.<br />The Doctor staggered back, his hands to his eyes and crashed to the ground. As he fell he heard a mocking<br />voice.<br />'Always one last trap, Doctor. All's ill that ends ill...'<br />Master's mocking laughter ringing in his ears..."

| *Quote of the week. I still feel the more simple solution would be to force the Contents to hide on that page by default. As it's not really needed. But I'm not sure if it's possible to force-hide the contents on one page without it affect others. But on the qotw page it would solve many of our problems.
| |
| | |
| *The question I have with regards to the NameSort template is, with articles it has problems with do you replace the TitleSort (if it's on there) with DEFAULTSORT? I have read through the documentation twice (but I keep feeling like I've missed something obvious, so apologies if that's the case).
| |
| | |
| *I just thought there'd be some logic to the categories / stub categories. I don't think it matters that much, just if you're looking at a page for Konka, it's in the Cat:Foods and beverages (or just Cat:beverages) category and then in the drinks stub. I know some things won't match exactly, but some consistency is nice (or just obsessive…).
| |
| | |
| *Stubs wise, would the solution for Behind the scenes / in-universe be colour? Make the BtS stubs just black & white and leave colourful pictures for the in-universe stuff? That way there's a real contrast between the stubs used for different things. And looking around most except magazine/TV are already b&w.
| |
| | |
| *Canon rewrite. I was about to reference the "Forum:Is DWU canon" but saw you've already jumped on it. As I said I was thinking about going in there and editing things, but I think I'll wait till you've done your major edits (mine would've been more about copyediting, softening some language, editing down something things and other stuff like that). Though considering how many things you're juggling at the moment I think it's forgivable that you've paused on a few projects!
| |
| | |
| *British words. This is somewhat tricky for me, as while I can edit things like this without really thinking about it, coming up with things for you to highlight and change is a little more tricky. But here's some I can think of at the moment (I'll maybe keep an eye on stuff as I edit and come back to you with a longer list).

| |
| :*With artefact I know you said "artifact", but given the need for a ruling last year I went with "artefact" given it appears in more sources. ([[Forum:Artifacts or Artefacts of Rassilon?]])
| |
| *:To quote the Doctor in ''[[...ish]]'' "it's not 'i-z-e' it's 'i-s-e' and it's not 'o-r' it's 'o-u-r'."
| |
| *Should I worry that you're proclaiming that your powers have increased ''exponentially''? That's usually the time when you dial the 'gate and throw a naquadah nuke through...or...talk about rice pudding and use an ancient stellar manipulation device.
| |
| :*There are a few other things that slightly annoy me, but changing them isn't a major thing, it comes mostly from editing in MS Word and even some minor text editing software that turns ellipsis from ... into one character … , I learned this lesson early on when editing ''[[Sometime Never...]]'' (I created a lot of the EDAs offline in TextEdit). Another thing, which verges on pretty obsessive is on the DWM articles and it's almost imperceptible, you can see it on [[DWM 18]], there's two/three uses of the apostrophe/single talking mark. `The Monsters of Doctor Who: The Mandrells’ and ` Story Fourteen – The Lionheart'`. I think in those two examples there's three different pieces of punctuation. I will continue to edit these things out (I had to look through a few DWM articles to find an example) as I've edited quite a few (and you will likely have not even noticed!), it's just the inconsistency that annoys me. But I can live with it, and I can see how giving the bot a job of switching around apostrophes could go drastically wrong very quickly. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 14:35, April 13, 2011 (UTC)

| Are you serious? The guy was adding incorrect information which is classed as vandalism. He continued to add it and you took it upon your self to (quite rightly) block him. | Don't sweat about the whole stub thing. I wasn't offended, I was merely pointing out that it was another recent case of false [word that means accusation but doesn't offend - :)]. I did discuss the edit as I'm sure you have seen on his page, and [[User:Revanvolatrelundar]] also reverted this info. I saw it as obvious vandalism as the user re-added even though I countered it. Therefore, at least in my eyes, I wasn't defying any policy. It's hard not to be offended when I see a flashing "Warning" heading embossing my page when my edits were only to prevent such rubbish making its way onto the wiki. While its obvious you need a third party in edit wars, they are still required to have grasped the situation. Thanks for making this mistake obvious to the user, and sorry if you feel "accused" of anything. Nothing I write is written to target anyone. Thanks----[[User:Skittles the hog|Skittles the hog]]--<small>[[User talk:Skittles the hog|Talk]]</small> 14:48, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

| I can see that you're trying to be even-handed, and of course that is a positive thing. I'm not really sure what stance your taking here. At first you were stating that such edits need to be discussed. They were. Now your saying I took a stance over him. Wrong, none of my comments referenced any admin action. In fact it was your good-self that took said action. I'm a little unsure as yo what you expected me to do? I talked to him and explained that he was wrong. He replied saying he was going to re-add the information.
| |
| | |
| However, here I think is another mistake. I '''did not''' revert his edit again. I merely removed the incorrect facts and reworded his information, okay I still essentially reverted his edit but as he was then blocked I never received his comment on the changes. I think this could have worked out better if you'd of allowed him to voice his opinion. I know policy doesn't say anything about this but you could of at least allowed him to reply to your warning.
| |
| | |
| Okay, the info wasn't so obviously wrong as your crude example of the average vandalist (I know that's not a word), but when I read it, it was rambling on that only two Cybermen were killed. This was obviously not the case and, as he explained, it turned out that was not what he meant. I'm sure you know all this having read the posts, but I though I might just annotate what I saw happening.
| |
| | |
| Just to round of my major point: at no point did I threaten him! Seriously, just because I'm an admin doesn't mean I'm corrupt. Thanks for clearing up that heading thing; I can see how a friendly heading could be seen as some form of bias.----[[User:Skittles the hog|Skittles the hog]]--<small>[[User talk:Skittles the hog|Talk]]</small> 15:48, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

| What I meant by the whole "admin action" thing, was that you seem to be suggesting that I did not allow him to voive his opinion. There's no question that I didn't. I don't know whether this is what you are suggesting in near-enough all of your posts, but it seems that way to me.
| |

| == Unused maintenance images ==
| |
| | |
| There are a few unused image on this wiki that fall under the category of "maintenance". Since I am currently doing a clear out of image, I thought it be best for you to decide what is to happen with these images since it can been seen as your thing.

| #[[:file:Wiki Logo Proposed1.jpg|image one]]

| |
| #[[:file:Gonetopot.jpg|image seventeen]] (Gone to pot, do we still use this?)
| |
| | |
| There are also two old image that used to be on the [[Companion]] page, [[:file:300px-Companions.jpg|here]] and [[:file:Companions ALL.PNG|here]]. I'm not sure what you want done with them, so I'll let you decide. Thanks. 16:02, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

| | |
| ::I don't delete image just because they are unused. I go through them all one by one and delete if they are blurry, under 250px (although I kept some that may be used in the future), if they are way over 1mb , if they are unrelated to DWU. If there is anything I am unsure about, rest assure I will put the <nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki> tag onto the image and see what other User's think.
| |
| | |
| ::If that's not okay with you, I am prepared to go through the images every Sunday night and tag the one I think should be deleted (I'll still delete blurry ones) and then, on the Friday or Saturday if nobody has an objection to the images be deleted I will delete, if there is an objection I will remove the tag and comment on the image about the discussion, so it not up for deletion in future.
| |
| | |
| ::I agree, I find some really good images that are unused, and it is a shame that they're not. I adding some, and if I think any that you could use for the top of the page banners (forgot the name), I will link you. The images listed above are all maintenance either duplicate, very small or blurry and I though you might want to use them for something. Thanks. | | |
| ::::Thanks for the heads ups, I'll keep that in mind. I'll start this Sunday and the deletion (if there is any) can take place between Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon. Like I said, the only images I delete straight away are the really blurry ones or anything that is obviously not to do with Doctor Who, anything else will have a tag on it. Thanks. 18:37, April 15, 2011 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| ::::::Sunday to Sunday sounds good. If you want, that's fine with me. I'll be okay to do it if your bot is busy doing something else. Could this become a policy, that all images that are going to be delete should be tagged and discussed? (Obviously instantly deleting sexual images, etc). 18:46, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

| == Spoilers ==
| |
| | |
| Actually, no it doesn't. The text there states;
| |
| ::''"Users should be aware that discussions in this forum tend to be started quickly '''after the first transmission of episodes''', or the initial release of non-televised stories. Thus, '''if you haven't experienced the latest stories''', this won't be a particularly "spoiler-free" zone. (Not, really, that the wiki in general is particularly spoiler-free, as our spoiler policy makes clear.)"''
| |
| | |
| The [[Tardis:Spoiler policy|spoiler policy]] even states ''"Spoiler information relating to not-yet-released stories must be kept to series or, in some cases, story articles."'' And nowhere on it does it say spoilers can be discussed in the Howling or on any forum. The closest we got to it was in [[Forum:The Howling, getting a little out of control]] where I brought up the discussion of spoilers. However, at the time Tangerinduel said;
| |
| ::''"Spoilers in the forums however seem to often refer to information gathered from '''un-official''' sources. This doesn't fit into the forum's rules as what's discussed in the forum still needs to relate to the content of this wiki.''
| |
| ::''I don't think there should be discussions of "spoilers", what I'm seeing so far is people grabbing info from '''unofficial sources''' and running with the idea."''
| |
| | |
| But the stuff Ghastly posted were from ''Official'' sources and were true spoilers. That's why I asked them not to post them again. Have I missed a discussion somewhere that states spoilers can be discussed there? --[[User:The Thirteenth Doctor|The Thirteenth Doctor]] 18:44, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| ::Eurgh... but it ''does'' restrict it! The spoiler policy says ''"Spoiler information relating to not-yet-released stories must be kept to series or, in some cases, story articles."'' --[[User:The Thirteenth Doctor|The Thirteenth Doctor]] 19:54, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| :::Ok. Can you change it to be more specific. Because if I'm misunderstanding it, then chances are others will too. I'm actually going to bring this up in the panopticon because it is something I feel strongly about. If it is the way you say it is then basically what we're saying to the entire wiki is, if you don't want to be spoiled, don't go to the Howling, because people can write whatever spoilers they want there. And then we'd warn those users that don't want to be spoiled about discussing theories on the article talk pages.
| |
| :::Let me be clear though, I'd be fine with spoilers there if we had another place to talk about theories without the possibility of future episodes being spoiled. That's why I originally brought up the idea of putting things like "Impossible Astronaut spoilers" in the title of the page so people would know where to not specifically go. --[[User:The Thirteenth Doctor|The Thirteenth Doctor]] 22:22, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

| == DWA first line query ... ==
| |
| | |
| Hi! I notice that that the change to the first line of the DWA pages has been changed - could we put it back to how it was? By that I mean the line that gives the magazine title Doctor Who Adventures is the only link on the page to the magazine homepage (which was why I used it in the first place) as the main author of these pages I find it very useful as a springboard to the main page rather than keeping typing in the search or back and forwards through the issues one by one. Thanks ... oh and by the way still not a category set up for Copyright Doctor Who Insider ... when you've got a minute. Thanks again [[User:The Librarian|The Librarian]] 18:54, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

| == Malohkeh and other things ==
| |
| | |
| Hi! just noticed a couple of things
| |
| * The Silurian Malohkeh has the incorect article title [[Malokeh]] and so needs changing
| |
| * And who updates the main page? because the DWA latest comic strip is seriously out of date - I usually supply latest updates cover and comic strips within 10 days of publication if there is anything I can do to help on this! Day before release if I'm quick enough as a subscriber.
| |
| * Perhaps its worth noting that a magazine is now now longer in print and maybe even including a latest publication list rather rather or in addition to comic strips to include other titles like Doctor Who Insider DVD Files (which I know is about to end iminently) but theres the new Doctor Who Monster Invasion card mag thing due any time ... or and the DWM specials while I think About it! Just some random thoughts .... Very sad tonight to hear ELisabeth Sladen has died ...63!! Whoever would have thought it. See Doctor Who does keep us all young :) [[User:The Librarian|The Librarian]] 01:45, April 20, 2011 (UTC)

| Hey, I've noticed that on user blog pages that the post comment box is placed above other comments and cascades bottom-up. This may be a wikia matter but it would make more sense for the post comment box to come below other user's comments and for other comments to be listed top-down. | == Terms of Use Issues ==
| |
| | |
| Hello Tangerineduel,
| |
| | |
| Some issues were recently brought to the attention of Wikia recently that I need to talk to you about.
| |
| | |
| First, while changing the text size and face is okay, the variation of the size on this wiki is causing some elements, like the Random Page and Recent Changes buttons to wrap/appear in places they should not. Please make necessary changes to the font size so the buttons that are a key part of the Wikia skin are in their proper places.
| |
| | |
| Secondly, you have replaced the link/text of "Wiki Activity" to "Recent Changes". I'm sorry, but this is simply not allowed and must be undone.
| |
| | |
| I will be happy to answer any questions you have on this and will work with you to make sure this gets fixed in an expedient but respectful manner. --[[User:daNASCAT|daNASCAT]] http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png <small>([[w:c:community:Forum:Community_Central_Forum|help forum]] | [[w:c:community:Blog:Wikia_Staff_Blog |blog]])</small> 18:58, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

| == Talk page banner ==
| |
| | |
| Just so you are aware; during your period of absence, we had to battle with a lot of speculation on talk pages. I took it upon myself to change the talk page banner so it bigger and it stands out. However, it was a copy of the real world banner, and it therefore has a lot of stuff associated with that on it's page, [[Template:Talk Page|here]] I am hoping you would be able to fix this, as I did not want to remove anything, as I had experimented earlier, and it went a bit... wrong.
| |
| | |
| ==Background==
| |
| Totally understand about your absence, I assumed it had to be something keeping you away in the middle of all the changes and no note left. But thanks for looking to the CSS issue it's something that I didn't really want to even look into trying to rectify.
| |
| | |
| The background I also understand, I really wasn't paying attention when I reverted it, I thought it was just wikia playing up again, it was only after I'd reverted it and a moment after I'd closed the tab I realised it was your name and then, well oops and sorry. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 16:32, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

You can't blame me for copying from the page, and I know you said that, but I am hurt and disgusted about the way you replied (nods to the above). Most of the users that bother to go on the Panopticon have looked at the Series 6 page at some point, seeing as most of the discussions at the present time have some sort of reference to it. The example that I gave was actually taken from the official website. It's hardly a spoiler seeing as not only was it shown on the website, but it was shown on Newsround ''and ''the Radio Times. | ==Discontinuity==
| |
| Yep, sure.
| |
| | |
| Should we just name it "Discontinuity Index"? Or do we need to come up with a DW-esque name?
| |
| | |
| I'm not sure though having a dedicated forum will totally remove the possibility of spoilers, I'm sure someone will get onto the ''An Unearthly Child'' and pick an issue with it that crops up in a 2011 story, probably the Rani returning again; it turns out she was the old woman and has been stage managing the Doctor's life since he met Babs and Ian.
| |
| | |
| I hope the Discontinuity forum will bring back ''some'' of the interesting information aspect of the original "Discontinuity, Plot holes and errors", ''some'' of that was interesting/entertaining. Hopefully un-mixing the Discontinuity from The Howling will restore this (or I'll just stick to the quieter "classic series" stories).

| ===Background images & infoboxes===
| |
| I've done an edit to the background images page.
| |
| | |
| There wasn't a lot that I thought could be cut out (as you can see by the [http://tardis.wikia.com/index.php?title=Help%3ABackground_images&action=historysubmit&diff=583935&oldid=580816 edit comparison]), as it's a fairly technical help page. It's something that only people with experience in Photoshop or similar editors (GIMP is the only other free one that's like Photoshop that comes to mind), so we don't need to simplify or cut it down too much.
| |
| | |
| I think if we cut more stuff it would loose its effectiveness as a helpful page.
| |
| | |
| One thing notable that I did change was the file limit, which you had as 100'''mb''', the limit is 100'''kb'''. I've noticed you've written 100mb elsewhere, was just wondering if you've been reading from a different help page to [http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Theme_designer this one]?
| |
| | |
| The Howling and everything looks like it's going well.
| |

| ::I'd have to say I've never noticed the "Around Wikia's Network" (I don't often scroll down that far), at a guess we'd have to submit an image or nominate an image path from where they can grab the image or something (just guessing). --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 14:49, May 21, 2011 (UTC)

| ==Problems with archiving & main page==
| |
| I've just noticed, in messing around with my talk page, that while I can click the edit button and roll my mouse through the options I get to delete and then it just disappears. At first I thought it was to do with the User archives template I have at the top, but removing it doesn't help (nor does trying it in another browser; Opera in this case), I suspect it has something to do with the Contents box, as it doesn't appear to happen on other talk pages which don't have the Contents box present.

| Also on the main page, at the bottom there's a rogue <nowiki><center></center></nowiki> around the Other wikis and also right at the bottom just above the Languages link it says; Retrieved from "http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Who_Wiki". --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 13:10, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

| == US Presidents ==
| |
| | |
| I'm not really sure alphabetizing the US Presidents is particularly helpful... Aside from being difficult to understand without even decades as context, there's no reason (with the information given by episodes and additional material in-canon) that we can't place the Presidents that have been explicitly named or seen within their time zones. It would be like listing the kings and queens of England alphabetically, there's not really a purpose for it. Alternatively, the people and characters listed could simply be arranged alphabetically in a Category of US Presidents. [[User:Witoki|Witoki]] 04:39, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
| |
| *I do certainly understand the complications (or even question possibility) of chronologically listing all the US presidents mentioned, but if nothing else they could be separated by century. Additionally, it could be a list of US presidents explicitly seen to be president in canon (and avoiding "President Springsteen" references and such). For example, the Doctor spoke highly of Harriet Jones and stated she would be Prime Minister for a long time, but then took her down himself shortly into her term. It's very possible some of the implied references don't actually come true. But we ''see'' President Winters in early 2008 in ''[[The Sound of Drums]]'', just as we see President Lincoln in late 1863 in ''[[The Chase]]''. The wall of text is very difficult to use without some kind of context. [[User:Witoki|Witoki]] 22:40, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

| Your wording seems fine. We don't want it too long or wordy. The only thing I'm wondering though is do italics translate over to the Wikia pages? I can't see any examples of italics in use on their entertainment, gaming or lifestyle pages. The only one a lack of italics really effects is ''K9'', but adding something like 'and the TV series K9' reads very awkwardly. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 16:41, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

| ==Image requests==
| |
| I think it was just people weren't using the page, looking at its history no one used the page from 2007 to 2008 when I deleted it.
| |
| | |
| I think around that time I was going through a lot of the pages to clear up the behind the scenes stuff of the wiki as up to that point there'd been a lot of pages created and then sort of left half way through or several pages that hadn't been updated for a long time so it was just a process of deleting or updating pages.
| |
| | |
| The Special:Import. As to the potential admin part I agree I think we should put it into the questions for potential admins that they should disclose any other wikis they're an admin on, so we can see examples of their work and/or to judge any potential conflict of interest.
| |
| | |
| I'm glad that this never went ahead. Though something that I did question about is the [[Template:Wikipedia]] seen on some articles which were sourced from Wikipedia like ''[[The Tenth Planet]]'' and ''[[City of Death]]'', on the Community forums I asked a while back if we can ever get rid of them, probably not as there's always going to be some info on the page that originated on Wikipedia. | == companions ==
| |
| | |
| | |
| Thanks for explaining the changes, that helps a lot. Upon reading the revised article I noticed that the lists of companions for each Doctor is intended to be written from a narrative and in-universe perspective.
| |
| | |
| [insert sound of can of worms opening here]
| |
| | |
| So where does that leave Canton Delaware? From an in-universe perspective he's got all the earmarks of a companion (TARDIS travel time, three months assisting the Doctor, more than one encounter with the Doctor, and even an invitation of sorts to travel with him). So from a narrative perspective he should be a companion, even if he's not recognized officially.
| |
| | |
| I guess I'm kind of looking for a definitive critera as to how we're going to list companions, even if there isn't one.

| |
| Hey, I know you're really busy with the spelling issues (which is looking good by the way!). But I'd appreciate your opinion on this: [[Forum:Users should be allowed any youtube video on their user page]].
| |
| | |
| As my immediate thoughts to respond were 'why would you want to?'. My concern is if we allowed the same for videos as for images users would just get around the video policy in the forums by saying 'look at my user page'.
| |
| There shouldn't be any issue with users ''linking'' to YouTube (or other) videos, but the question I think relates to embedding the videos.
| |
| I did just want to also reply stating that our user page policy states that it shouldn't be your primary contribution to the wiki, but I didn't feel it answers the heart of the question. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] / '''[[User talk:Tangerineduel|talk]]''' 13:53, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
| |
| | |
| :Thanks for dealing with the initial post so succinctly and far clearer than I would have done.
| |
| :I haven't restored the video, rather just searched for it on YouTube, and I did have concerned about the age of the user, the video was posted 2 years ago.
| |
| :I've had a look at the Wookipedia discussion, and while the COPPA applies to Wikia, not us as admins, Wikia's Terms of Use does apply to everyone who uses Wikia's service as a member.
| |
| :So as the user has signed up as a member they've agreed to be bound by the Terms of Use and "Any registration by anyone under 13 is unauthorized, unlicensed and in violation of these Terms of Use".
| |
| :The user, if under 13 can edit if they're an unregistered user (I think) as, when they're unregistered they're not bound by the Terms of Use, but because they registered then they're obviously in violation of the TofU.
| |
| :We're just really lacking information I think, we're sort of judging based on a 2 year old video on YouTube (the profile of the video says the user is 45). Though looking at [[:File:Doctorpenguin.png|this image]] he's uploaded I think it's possible that he is 13 or under.
| |
| :I've also not had to deal with an issue like this before, so I think we need to push this further up the chain of command, because they haven't yet done anything on this wiki that warrants a block, but they're a member of Wikia, not just this site. Do you want to contact them or should I? | I didn't read all of you post as, if you'd read the discussion you added to, you would have found that I blocked it for [[User:Revanvolatrelundar]], who thought that simply adding the template did so. If you had read his post on my page he comments that it should be blocked for "at least a day", so I assumed it would be around the 24 hour mark and left it up to him to unblock it, something I notified him about. This was simply a case of protecting it for him to un-protect it as he saw fit. | I think you are underestimating the intelligence of the average user. I think anybody could work out why it was locked. | I'm still not sure how your not getting this. The reason was only/purely/just to assist Revan. Their was no other reason, I was just correcting the protection he had intended. | | |
| So your saying speculation isn't vandalism? As for your comment about abiding by wiki rules, you are taking what I said out of context. I was not talking about any wikia policies, I was talking about your suggestion that the article would not be vandalised. Utter rubbish. I don't mean to sound harsh, but your argument seems bent on making me voice an opinion I never had. I protected the page solely for what was supposed to be 24 hours, or whatever Revan deemed it to be. If you want a reason then have "high traffic". At no point was I suggesting I don't have to follow policy, I was stating that I do not have to comply to ''your'' opinion. Reading my post, this was exactly what I had written, so I'm not sure how you were confused.
| |
| | |
| I realise this has angered you (or whatever emotion you may be feeling), but I really had no intention to protect this article for so long. However, I do think that it was beneficial to do so at the time and Revan clearly agreed. So, just to clarify: I protected it ''for'' Revan. I assumed he would sort it out from there and he obviously didn't. | The purple highlighting in the picture is the padding of the .tabs-container. Because the .tabs-container is manually positioned 25px down, the padding overlays the links below it, and therefore they can't be clicked. My solution suggestion was to place the tabs "under" the links. Other solutions could be to simply remove the padding/positioning (i'm not sure why it was added in the first place), or to give the container of the links (#contentSub) a 25px top margin. Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1?[[edit source]]
Hello!
I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.
DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and User:OncomingStorm12th, User:SOTO and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but not block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him.
He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner User:Najawin) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on the talk page I mentioned earlier, because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions opposite to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion.
So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?
To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment.
…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls[[edit source]]
Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. Chubby Potato ☎ 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
NightmareofEden ☎ 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Good to know. I did just make another post on the matter just before I received your message, so feel free to delete that. I would like to ask you politely to unlock the initial discussion though, as you did ask for ideas. Regards,
21:20, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Right right, I see!
Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of not holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that your own quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought you had changed your mind about this. I have no particular wish that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought you were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.
But thanks for the explanation, all the same! Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?
To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.
- Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder always trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host any images of their covers at all, or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere wish should not paralyse a whole fandom so.
- I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.
- (For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Incidentally, this is unrelated to the above matter, but I am still waiting on you for that Slack invite, unless you already sent it and my spam folder ate it up. (If you've misplaced my email address, it's still one of my most recent messages to you on Discord.) Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:57, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
I already made a forum post about this, but maybe this is better. Where did the information on Millennia's blue hair come from? It's been bugging many of us in the Deca fandom for quite some time. I see the edit on that was made in August of 2011, while the page itself was made in 2009. Many people have read through Divided Loyalties, even going as far as to specifically search for "blue hair," and have turned up empty. Was this just some fan thing that everyone agreed upon? Thank you!

Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fix[[edit source]]
Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).

Re: Some of your recent changes and proposals[[edit source]]
Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in Fandomdesktop.css was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with Scrooge MacDuck and OncomingStorm12th to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all.
The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.
The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.
Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as {{wales crew}} and {{Speedy rename}} so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually.
Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now.
I hope that you are now feeling better on the medical front. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) ☎ 07:41, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Something else that I've just remembered about my use of Fandomdesktop.css is that I wrote a lot of it when Oasis was still the primary skin and I didn't want anything I was writing for FandomDesktop to have side effects on Oasis. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) ☎ 07:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello, I'm glad you're back and I hope you're feeling better now. I know you're still fixing up the tech and visual stuff, but I just wanted to let you know that MediaWiki:Anonnotice was oddly displaying a portion of an infobox which I determined to be from Popidius Celsinus. I hadn't even been on that page. It only happens sometimes but it's very strange. Chubby Potato ☎ 05:02, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Hey, hope you've been alright with the (gestures around toward the abstract) everything lately. This is actually a message from multiple admin (myself, user:OncomingStorm12th and user:Scrooge MacDuck), though it is me writing this. (Don't worry too much about it.)
So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up temporary forums, so we can still get the essential discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at Tardis talk:Temporary forums, where others have chimed in (including user:Tangerineduel, who also thinks it's a good idea).
Basically, six slots would be open for new discussions (we actually have a list of priorities going). In the spirit of Doctor Who: Flux, rather like the Mouri in the Temple of Atropos, all forum discussion passes through these spaces (beyond the scope of talk pages). When one closes, its spot will be opened for another to take its place.
[[Tardis:Temporary forums]]
would be the Hub, with
- 1. Links to these six spaces;
- 2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);
- 3. An archive section (with table format, showing resolves/unresolved, and a quick summary of the closing remarks).
All in one place. This will help with moving things over to the Actual Forums. And there will be a strict time limit on these discussions: three weeks until closing time. When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.
This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on)[1].
The thing is, we just wanted to make sure you weren't just about to hit that big friendly button before proceeding. No point in all this, after all, if there won't be time enough for round one before the next stage of forum evolution's upon us again. We were thinking about opening the temporary forums on the Sunday after next, around Doctor Who time[2] That'd be Sunday Jan 23rd, 19:30 UTC. Unless you think you'll have the Newest Forums up and running by then?
Happy New Year, by the way!
× SOTO (☎/✍/↯) 21:19, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- ↑ It will also make sure these will be non-trivial discussions for us to pass over. To be added to the list, a new proposal needs to meet two criteria: It must... 1: be actionable (within the three week time limit, it should be possible to hash out), 2: affect a large number of pages.
- ↑ Which is to say, around the time we'd start the page for a new episode of Doctor Who. Bottom of the hour, as you once explained to me.
- Perfectly alright! I'm in no rush personally, but the community's been calling for things to move forward again. (Obviously, no extra steps would be better.) Glad to hear you're doing well. It's been a while.
× SOTO (☎/✍/↯) 03:34, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Late reply, but all good! Glad to see it's being worked on. We'll hold off for now if that's the case, don't worry.

Off-topic megathread for discussions[[edit source]]
GaganTopia ☎ 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- : Name a list of wikis I have been banned on and when I was banned on them. And my actions on other wikis should not impact how I am on this one, as I've done nothing wrong here, it's not fair, and I do make edits when I see pages to be edited. GaganTopia ☎ 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Talk page number... things[[edit source]]
The number displayed on the talk page "thingy" on pages seems to be off currently - possible because of a recent Fandom update, so I thought you were the best person to ask. It seems to display "1" for a while after more messages have been added, which certainly throws me off, as I've used this number to confirm if I've received a response in the past. Do you have any clue what could have caused this? (2 screenshots are displayed below for illustrative purposes)

Navigation templates, or "navboxes", also have an issue - they're open by default & cannot be collapsed.

There is no legitimate reason to remove the image gallery from the Pilot Episode's article.[[edit source]]
I looked up the image rules, and there is no rule stating that only articles of valid stories can have image galleries. People will want to see the changes between the pilot and the broadcast. ApertureEmployee427 ☎ 23:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Hey, how have you been? User:Najawin recently alerted me over personal/potentially doxxing information being added to one of our pages recently by an anonymous user. Since then, I've protected the page so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it (which thankfully stopped the info being added again), but Najawin further contacted me pointing out that we should probably delete said revisions from the page (which I don't believe is something I am able to do.
Would you mind helping out on this? OncomingStorm12th ☎ 18:41, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- Just to note, for the technical bit of this getting done, the first edit to add potentially doxxing information was on 26 May 2022, and more information was added over time. Nobody noticed it aside from an IP user until this past September when I was checking some old conversations I had and links in them. I promptly removed the info, but someone then added it back. Clearing out the original May edit and all since then is probably the way to go. Najawin ☎ 06:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
Hey, I know you've been busy, but I wanted to let you know that in light of the two year anniversary of the forums being down a good deal of the active editors have been having a discussion over at Forum talk:Index. We'd love for you to read it over and join the conversation when you have the time. Najawin ☎ 20:06, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Template:Wales crew updates[[edit source]]
Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with The Halloween Apocalypse, although the one for Revolution of the Daleks is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at Template talk:Wales crew.
I gather that User:SOTO has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template.
I wonder if you might be willing to put me in touch with SOTO, take a look at it yourself, or point me in the direction of someone else who could help? If it's an option, I would love to be able to edit the template myself instead of endlessly bothering busy admins. Again, I'm very sorry to contact you out of the blue about something you used to maintain ten years ago! Starkidsoph ☎ 23:45, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Hi CzechOut, long time no chat! I'm sure you saw my nomination of Bongolium500 for adminship, but just want to do due diligence and let you know just in case. I'll also take the chance to thank you for your attention to Forum talk:Index – very much looking forward to the fresh start, and very appreciative of your stopping by to take us over the finish line despite the busy time of year :) – n8 (☎) 18:54, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Happy Thanksgiving! It's now been a little over one week since Bongo's nomination discussion began, so we'd be ready for you to weigh in. By the way, any update or new ETA for the forums? – n8 (☎)
Hi Czechout
– The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ser0slug (talk • contribs) .
I Know 2023 isn't here yet, though as I'm near the last day til New Year's Eve, happy new year. User:Sum41Champ
Temporary Forums Are Live![[edit source]]
Hello!
Just wanted to notify you that, User:CzechOut's final deadline of "by New Year's Day" having passed, and following in-depth discussion between myself and fellow admins User:SOTO, User:OncomingStorm12th and User:Bongolium500, we have decided to activate Tardis:Temporary forums, come what may. A sitenotice has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update our Administrators on the situation, as well as User:Spongebob456.
As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums if we should get those back in the near future after all.
But it has been multiple years since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full year ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. The Tardis community are owed a different approach.
We four elementals behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step is not intended to create more work for them unbidden. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any obligation to do so.
Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

Hi. I've accepted your friend request. Having the Forum namespace back in action is certainly going to be very helpful. Bongo50 ☎ 05:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Heads up about the thanks extension[[edit source]]
Hi. I just wanted to give you a heads up that Tardis is testing the "thanks" extension which Fandom will be rolling out to all wikis soon. This extension allows editors to thank other editors for their edits. The editor being thanked will then recieve a notification. Therefore, while you're actively performing edits, you may receieve a few more notifications than normal. If you notice any bugs, pass them onto User:Spongebob456. Bongo50 ☎ 19:56, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
Why don't you use your bot anymore?[[edit source]]
It hasn't made any edits since september 2020. Sliderhostmimic ☎ 18:12, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Request to correct a mistake[[edit source]]
Hi CzechOut
I am fairly new to contributing to this fandom but I contribute to another regularly, anyway I have accidentally linked to a category that doesn't exist, I intended to link to the category UNIT United Kingdom however I have accidentally confused myself and created UNIT UK, please can you try and rectify my mistake on my behalf as I know I can't do it without being a admin (I'm a admin on another fandom, so I have inside knowledge of being a admin)
'Which Way Out?' short story[[edit source]]
Hello, I have been looking for a certain Doctor Who story for a long time. I mean 'Which Way Out?' from TV Comic Holiday Special 1976. It's hard to find any information about this story, but I did find that you wrote an article about it on the TARDIS Wiki, so I assume you've read it. I was wondering if you might still have access to this story? I will be very grateful for your answer.
