Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1?
Hey, if you get a minute, could you move Automaton to Automaton (The Empty Planet) and change all the links. Thanks--&nbsp;<span style="">16:01:05 Tue&nbsp;06 Sep 2011&nbsp;</span> 16:01, September 6, 2011 (UTC)
Hello!

New Logo and DWA
I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.

I've unlocked my talk page. I think it was when my profile was being majorly vandalised I locked it, and the talk page was locked alongside it. So that's it open now. Thanks for the logo. I will indeed be using it. Thanks.
DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and User:OncomingStorm12th, User:SOTO and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but not block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him.

And I'm glad you think the idea to nuke the questions is fantastic. Would you like to become one of the admins? Because even if you're never there, if there's a major problem, it'll always he handy for you to have admin powers there.
He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner User:Najawin) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on the talk page I mentioned earlier, because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions opposite to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion.

We do actually have a policies page, although BC didn't seem to follow these either. He has since had all his powers removed and has been blocked. Now that I've reviewed the policies with just some minor changes in wordings, I'm deleting the pages.
So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?

If you'd like to help, I'm more than happy to make you an admin, but if you don't have time and would rather spend your time here, I completely understand. Thanks again. --The Thirteenth Doctor 17:26, September 6, 2011 (UTC)
To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes.
::And, do you think a bot would be useful? I emailed wikia before and they said that there was no way to delete all of the questions on the site at once, and would have to be done by hand. But, would a bot be able to do that? How difficult would it be to set up? --The Thirteenth Doctor 18:11, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism on the Chloe Webber page.
An anonymous user is using really...questionable and un-encylopedic language on the Chloe Webber page. Already reverted once, and was re-reverted. No idea if this is the right place or person to ask, but oh well. -- Tybort (talk page) 00:29, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. ==A little bit of help==
Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls
Hey there Czech. I'm Jo, and I'm admin of the Left 4 Dead wiki. I must say, this is a really nice looking wiki site. The last major update Wikia distributed really messed up the Left 4 Dead wiki, so I was wondering if you'd be willing to teach me a thing or two about some of the coding used here. Please let me know, I'd like to make my wiki less of an eye sore. Thanks in advanced! 00:55, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
:I particularly liked the templates for protected pages. (The little tabs on the left side of the frame). 01:13, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
::Ah. Hm. Well I as going to use them for featured articles since our previous featured templates overlap over Wikia's stuff on the right side of the frame. Not sure how it messes up old browsers though. Hopefully no one will mind. 01:57, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
:::Oh yes, I can understand how that's an issue. I'm more than certain a few users will complain about monitor size being an issue. But I've still got a few more ideas that might work...Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciated it. :) From one Whovian to another. 02:14, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

More cleanup of the Tersurus --> UNIT years Master
Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing :Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. When the edit completed a big message appeared about "change propagation" and the "job queue". I don't know enough about the code of MediaWiki to know what this really means, or if it will affect anything, but seeing as it appears important and you control the technical aspects of the wiki, I thought you should know. I hope it didn't mess up anything... Chubby Potato <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

After your merger of Tersurus into UNIT years, the locked Template:Masters now needs the "Tersurus" bit to be removed. -- Tybort (talk page) 02:04, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

CC-BY-SA & the New Editor
I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, I don't know either.  NightmareofEden <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I did look briefly into the CC BY SA 2.0, at least one other wiki has it in use. But if you think this isn't enough then I'll send off a report.

I missed the preview button, then I realised it's white, I'd imagine that this is part of the problematic change over.
Good to know. I did just make another post on the matter just before I received your message, so feel free to delete that. I would like to ask you politely to unlock the initial discussion though, as you did ask for ideas. Do Wikia think? Ever? Or do they just keep adding bad features?
Re: Discussions use
Right right, I see!

Although, I didn't like "Wiki skin"/"Oasis". and grew to live with it. Being able to shove away the right hand side thing is good. But not being able to scroll the whole page, bad. I like to have what I'm focusing on in the middle of the screen
Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of not holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that your own quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought you had changed your mind about this. I have no particular wish that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought you were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.

Yes, I shall send off a report, tomorrow, when I'm less likely to rant/swear at them, at the moment I want to mess around and see the extent of their thoughtlessness. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:55, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
But thanks for the explanation, all the same! Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

:I'm going to tackle the less complicated issue, that I already tackled last message and that's of CC 2.0. Don't worry about it, the feature that exists now where you can upload pics or grab them from Flikr (which is incidentally where I got all the images that have the CC 2.0 license on them from) attaches the CC 2.0 licence to it. And while we know Wikia makes some idiotic decisions I don't think they'd make this sort of mistake.
Re: DWM
Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?

:Now onto the bigger more complicated question that I want to avoid.
To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
:Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.

:The switch to Oasis didn't make me want to leave, countless other things didn't make me want to leave.
:Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
::Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder always trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host any images of their covers at all, or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere wish should not paralyse a whole fandom so.

:This does, it's made the editor so unsuable I'm seriously thinking of just going and I dunno, editing Wikipedia where they don't make these stupid design decisions.
::I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.

:I really feel for you, considering I don't know how many days (weeks/months?) that you've spent trying to make this site look as good as it did.
::(For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 23:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

:I think we need two forum topics, one Tech notes/Important messages that is just an announcement for:
Invite
:*Stuff that doesn't work.
Incidentally, this is unrelated to the above matter, but I am still waiting on you for that Slack invite, unless you already sent it and my spam folder ate it up. :*Stuff that partially works.
:*Stuff that hasn't changed.
:*Workarounds.

:Then another forum topic for reports with the same basic headings; Not working, Partially working, workarounds.
Millennia's blue hair
:We should also have a link to the Special:Contact page so people can go straight to them and to Sarah Manley's blog page as well.
I already made a forum post about this, but maybe this is better. Where did the information on Millennia's blue hair come from? It's been bugging many of us in the Deca fandom for quite some time. I see the edit on that was made in August of 2011, while the page itself was made in 2009. Many people have read through Divided Loyalties, even going as far as to specifically search for "blue hair," and have turned up empty. Was this just some fan thing that everyone agreed upon? Thank you!

:Both should be just reports not discussions, maybe a third for I dunno people to discuss it?
Manarchy ban
:I sometimes think frustration is good, in that I hope it will force editors to put that frustration into words and send it to Wikia, or alternatively it will drive people away and therefore show Wikia there's been a drop in traffic because of this new change. Or is this too harsh an approach?
Hello. You might not remember me but my account is called Manarchy. I'm currently using a VPN to talk to you and i wanted to talk about my ban. It's been a couple of years since i even visited this wikia and I realised that I had grown more mature as the years went by. If it is possible, is there any way you could unban my account? I apologise for my actions as a young teenager and promise that I will be more mature on this site. If it is impossible, then i'm just glad to wrap things up with this wikia.

:Monobook is an option (weren't wikia going to turn it off at some point?), but I don't think it's a valid one for us to send anyone to. It should be the very last resort.
Manarchy 01:29 July 7, 2021 (UTC)
:: (Heads'up, I've informed Manarchy of the inappropriateness of their VPN shenanigans. I'll leave making a judgment on the request itself to you, though.) :Firstly I think you need to absolve yourself of all responsibility :). Then make up a big sign pointing towards Wikia central, and then kick back with a cold/hot beverage. Hopefully this will make the headache go away.
Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fix
:I don't think we need to get too involved with the user fallout. As I've said two forums or three, the third would be a venting one I'd say. Wikia central for more information and their forums.
Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).
<br><small>- Kris tha 6'7" <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 23:48, 24 July 2021 (UTC)</small>

:I think if we have things like that in place where people can see what isn't and what is working and that we didn't just turn it on for shits and giggles and that it's another of Wikia's "quirks" of trying to make the sites under its bosom function better for "new editors" (its reason for most changes) while fraking around with the user experience of everyone else. Then I think editors will understand. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:42, September 9, 2011 (UTC)
Re: Some of your recent changes and proposals
Pictures
Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in Fandomdesktop.css was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with Scrooge MacDuck and OncomingStorm12th to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all.
If you're referring to the Silent and Uncle images, then I didn't upload those. I only got as far as Nephew on that page. I added copyright to all of the images I uploaded, as I did that on 30th August, when it was necessary to add copyright using the uploader. 18:29: Thu 9 Sep 2011

<p style="margin-left: 40px; ">Ah, I see. I got the impression that you were referring to photos uploaded yesterday. I'll be sure to use Special:MultipleUpload in future. 21:58: Thu 9 Sep 2011</p>
The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.

Re: Chat
The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.

To answer your question, what I meant by "the code almost worked" was that while it did align the the TOC, it still pushed the rest of the content beneath it. However, I've found that making an extra box underneath the infobox as part of the template prevents that problem. So thanks for helping me!<br /><span style="cursor:select;" title="Dolphanatic"><span style="border: 2px solid #00FF00;"><span style="padding-left:2px; color:#00FF00; background-color:#006600;">Dolphanatic</span></span></span><span style="cursor:select;" title="Talk"><span style="border: 2px solid #00FFFF;"><span style="padding-right:2px; color:#00FFFF; background-color:#006666;">Talk</span></span></span><span style="cursor:select;" title="Talk"><span style="border: 2px solid #FF00FF;"><span style="padding-right:2px; color:#FF00FF; background-color:#660066;">Contributions</span></span>{}</span>
My understanding of SMW was that, if a wiki has it enabled, it is fine for that wiki to use it. Certainly, I've spoken a fair bit with users on the Fandom Discord server about it and I was never told not to use it. While I do prefer Cargo, SMW is very useful and I feel it should be used to it's fullest potential. Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as wales crew and Speedy rename so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually.

In regards to the category comment you left on my page mentioning bots - the main thing I was doing was removing duplicate categories. For example, pages that were in "Category: Stories set in London" and "Category: Stories set in England". If there's a way a bot can go and do this for multiple categories - great. One thing to watch out for, is what Mini-Mitch said on my talk page about pages occasionally needing to be in both a category and its sub-category (eg. The End of Time, where parts are set in London and parts elsewhere in England). If you're able to program a bot that meets these requirements then great. Let me know if you're able so I know I can stop making these sorts of edits.

Basically, six slots would be open for new discussions (we actually have a list of priorities going). In the spirit of Doctor Who: Flux, rather like the Mouri in the Temple of Atropos, all forum discussion passes through these spaces (beyond the scope of talk pages). When one closes, its spot will be opened for another to take its place.

Hi, I'm back to pester you some more with Infobox Actor.  Actually it's a very small bug; when the Official site field and/or the Twitter field are filled in but IMDb is not, the link gets thrown to the left edge of the page like so.  It's not a huge urgent deal since pretty much everyone has an IMDb, but I thought I should bring it to your attention. == Customized Search Field ==
:1. Links to these six spaces;
:2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);
:3. An archive section (with table format, showing resolves/unresolved, and a quick summary of the closing remarks).
All in one place. This will help with moving things over to the Actual Forums. And there will be a strict time limit on these discussions: three weeks until closing time. When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.

This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on).

The thing is, we just wanted to make sure you weren't just about to hit that big friendly button before proceeding. No point in all this, after all, if there won't be time enough for round one before the next stage of forum evolution's upon us again. We were thinking about opening the temporary forums on the Sunday after next, around Doctor Who time That'd be Sunday Jan 23rd, 19:30 UTC. Unless you think you'll have the Newest Forums up and running by then?

Now that I've considered things, I suppose that the reference to the "UNIT era" doesn't really add anything to the UNIT dating controversy page, though I have one question: where does it say the events of DW: The Invasion is set in 1979? == Off-topic megathread for discussions ==

Hi, I noticed you edited MediaWiki:New-look to be "Wikia — sometimes called Oasis – skin". Now, if you look closely, there's first &mdash; (mdash) and then &ndash; (ndash). I assume it wasn't intention to be mixing them like this, thus I'm letting you know of this. (: –Tm_T (Talk) 18:16, September 12, 2011 (UTC)
So I’ve seen a few wikis with off-topic megathreads (Jurassic Park wiki being one example, with the “Chaos Zone”), which are basically discussions threads where users can post whatever they want that is not related to the subject of the wiki (in this case, posts unrelated to Doctor Who) in the replies to that thread. We could put it in the FANDOM posts category, so it’s easier to find, and we can tell users about it whenever a discussion is or goes off-topic. Maybe we could call it “The Void” too, as it is technically outside of “the universe of the wiki”, as the void was outside the universe of Doctor Who. What do you think about this idea? == Template:Wales crew updates ==

Categories related to Torchwood (team)
Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with The Halloween Apocalypse, although the one for Revolution of the Daleks is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at Template talk:Wales crew.

A while back, I removed examples pertaining to the Miracle Day Torchwood allies, enemies and personnel from the categories Torchwood Three allies, Torchwood Three enemies and Torchwood Three personnel. I did state my reason quite clearly: "Whatever we call it, that Torchwood certainly isn't Torchwood Cardiff.", which Redranger241 has since added them all back, with no apparent reason given. Am I seriously missing something? I understand whether it's part of the Institute has been up for debate, but it's not Torchwood Three at all. Should I talk with the aforementioned editor? I'd probably have asked for the admins' advice earlier, but I was just completely baffled by these edits. -- Tybort (talk page) 15:40, September 19, 2011 (UTC)
I gather that User:SOTO has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template.
:Relatedly, people have been adding them to the main Torchwood Three page, too. -- Tybort (talk page) 18:55, September 19, 2011 (UTC)
: Well, even if you have a point of simply changing the categories to simply "Torchwood enemies" etc., Jack's Torchwood is pretty autonomous, so I think it makes sense for the Cardiff branch's history and ideals to be separated as the page Torchwood Three at the very least (and yes, I realise it's usually simply called "Torchwood"). -- Tybort (talk page) 18:08, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Temporary Forums Are Live!
I'm seeing just the text for all the templates in Firefox. I've done the usual; cleared the cache etc. It's made no difference. In Opera and Safari none of the images for the real world templates show through and none of the glowyness (though I seem to recall that being an issue). But both are functioning a lot better than Firefox is at the moment.
Hello!

I also couldn't leave a message for you under Firefox (it just went to "publishing" and then went to preview instead.
Just wanted to notify you that, User:CzechOut's final deadline of "by New Year's Day" having passed, and following in-depth discussion between myself and fellow admins User:SOTO, User:OncomingStorm12th and User:Bongolium500, we have decided to activate Tardis:Temporary forums, come what may. A sitenotice has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update our Administrators on the situation, as well as User:Spongebob456.

Is this just part of the on-going Wikia-based issues that's been going on for the past few days or something else? Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:53, September 23, 2011 (UTC)
As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums if we should get those back in the near future after all.

:Firefox is acting up again. The page banners, such as the spoiler and real world ones appear only as text, and the "protected" banner appears on the page rather than on the outside. I've cleared my cache, but it does not seem to help the problem. MM/<small>Want to talk?</small> 13:07, October 1, 2011 (UTC)
But it has been multiple years since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full year ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. I don't think anyone's at fault, least of all you; it is clear that you've had the Wiki's best interests at heart all through this. But the fact is thatthe time has come to realise that this overly-optimistic strategy of endlessly putting off an imperfect temporary solution in pursuit of a perfect one "soon"… has failed, resoundingly. It is time for a different approach. The Tardis community are owed a different approach.

Adding the same category multiple times
We four elementals behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step is not intended to create more work for them unbidden. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any obligation to do so.

Adding "Stories released in 1973" twice was a complete accident. Bare in mind that is past one o'clock in the morning for me. I have to admit that I was sort of on autopilot as regards adding categories to pages and must have simply forgotten to go to the next page after posting "Stories released in 1973". I can assure you that it was nothing more than an honest mistake. I admit that I may have added the same category more than once to other pages today due to tiredness and/or carelessness but it was certainly not a conscious choice. If so, I apologise but I'm not nor have I ever been a cheater. It's just not in me, frankly.
Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

Hi, thought it would be the best to move this discussion here as its for this wiki afterall. haven't got a chance to check this yet further than it looks working just fine with Opera 10 (mobile), assume the problem is with newer version then? Opera and Mozilla documentation in overall has details of differences, can try locating a some list or collection. –Tm_T (Talk) 10:37, October 2, 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism of DAY OF TH MOON
I am just going through the early episodes of seaosn six and noticed that someone has done some vandalism on DAY OF THE MOON in the opening section.  I believe it to be an anonymous contributor, and will do a full-article edit -- as I had planned and leave it to the tech people to figure out who it is. Just a note to mention that I like the changes you are making after my latest clean-up of the article.  I am very conservative about changing the article's structure, finding enough to do in scouring off the blather. Hi, when creating the pages for The Minister of Chance I had no idea that the production team had seperated themselves from the DWU. ==Firefox issues==
It seems Firefox is perennially broken. Is it Mozilla's often updates, Wikia? Or is it just me? The issues are what's been seen before, templates not working, show/hide issues, basically all and everything. I've done all the clearing and refreshing. I've been hoping these are issues that would be sorted, but it's been going on for at least a week (I think), but I've been holding off annoying you about it till now, hoping it would fix itself. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:02, October 7, 2011 (UTC)

:Thanks for keeping me up to date. While this issue is irritating it doesn't prevent me (or anyone else) from using the site. Also thanks for leaping to the problem so quickly (I was really hoping it was just one of those potholes in Wikia's system that would fill and repair on itself own...I know, that's asking a bit. But I was hopeful it was just a hiccup in the system). I'll keep in mind in future to contact you if it doesn't go away after 24 hours. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:01, October 8, 2011 (UTC)

Dalekese
I noticed you deleted the page about the Dalekese language because "there is no narrative source for this information. information which exists SOLELY in a reference work can't have its own page." In my opinion, that shouldn't be a reason why it shouldn't have its own page because it's a part of Dalek culture as we do have other articles based on information found in the book, but is there anyway we could still add this information somewhere to the wiki as it's from an official source? --Victory93 talk to me 09:06, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
*I see. But The Dalek Pocketbook and Space Travellers Guide is an official reference book by Terry Nation who of course owns all rights to the Dalek universe. So even though most of the information in there might conflict with post-Genesis of the Daleks history, couldn't the subject still be considered for an article?
Also on a further note, the article Silcronian which has been kept which includes information that appears to be only in the book, would this come under a different subject or the same, additionally the book goes into in-depth including diagrams of Dalek technology which only appears in this book. Would they also warrant articles?
Plus further saying on the topic of Polly, could we just simply state somewhere how this is an error and ignore it much like how Wirrn is mispelled Wirrrn or how in Doctor Who: 100 Scariest Monsters Kaldor is mispelled Caldor? I mean they're just simple continuity errors that can be ignored. --Victory93 talk to me 10:05, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

**Oh wait, I think you think that this is unofficial source material. ==Picture==
I thought that the reason why the Season 6 episode pages have not so many pictures is that the images were deleted because of spoilers. Now I get what you meant and thank you. :)

Proposition
I see what you mean by when it's something said in a narrative and not in a reference book. But that doesn't mean we can't include this sort of information. It's pretty obvious that Polly Lopez, Caldor and Wirrrn are errors but it doesn't mean that with one error that the whole book doesn't count.

Lets look at the Star Wars wiki for example. There are of course heaps of things in the Star Wars universe which havn't been mentioned in any narrative material however are discussed in official reference material which on the wiki, articles have been created about it. In addition in the past there has been numerous material which has made an error to already placed continuity, saying something else, or has a spelling error about someone or something's name, but that simple mistake doesn't mean that the entire book doesn't count. In regards to an article on the Star wars wiki, any mistake that has been made in reference material, a note is included at the bottom of the article stating which book or source material has made this certain mistake to let fans know.

In recent Doctor Who reference material, there has been some in-universe information (not in a narrative form) that has given more explanation about the Doctor and the TARDIS which doesn't conflict with existing canon. In the Visual Dictionary, it explains about the dimension which the TARDIS console room exists. The time sceptre which is a structure that floats within that dimension is where the console room sits and other rooms of the TARDIS stem out from that spire.

Here is a proposition I would like to make which I hope both of us can agree on and we could use for the TARDIS wiki. Any information which is found in a narrative (episodes, novels, audios, comcis etc.) is straight away used and even if it conflicts with already established information, we can simply explain how the two might coincide. For example the novel Bullet Time conflicts with how Sarah Jane is still alive but we've included both instances and included an explanation on how they exist. With reference material which includes in-universe information that might not appear in narrative material, if it doesn't conflict with anything, then it counts and we can include it in an article or an article for itself. However if it says something else which conflicts with already existing canon, then obviously that is an error and we simply don't include that small bit of information, however we make a small note somewhere on the article of the material and the subject explaining how that particular information is incorrect. For example on the article Kaldor, I was to add in the behind the scenes section the following statement "In the reference book Doctor Who: 100 Scariest Monsters, Kaldor is mispelled Caldor" and with Wirrn "In numerous material, Wirrn has been sometimes mispelled Wirrrn" which we can do soemthing similar with Polly in her article.
Already this sort of method is used in the numerous other wikis which have come into this sort of situation, I can't see why we can't do the same. --Victory93 talk to me 00:00, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

*Well we wouldn't be including behind-the-scenes material as that is real world material. Just IN-UNIVERSE material which expands on those subjects and characters in the DWU. For instance it is mentioned in the show that the TARDIS console room exists in another dimension but they don't appear to expand on that any further. If you look in Doctor Who: The Visual Dictionary on page 16 on the inside-flap, you'll see that it goes in-depth detailing about this dimension and how the console room is part of this structure called the time sceptre. This is all I mean, reference material which is about the DWU and looks at it from an in-universe perspective, no behind-the-scenes, no interviews, nothing real-world. With the subject of Dalekese in The Dalek Pocketbook and Space Travellers Guide, it merely expands on Dalek culture from an in-universe perspective, not a behind-the-scnes real world view. --Victory93 talk to me 05:14, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

**I have been reading what you've said, and like I've said we would not be including any references which are OUT-OF-UNIVERSE (OOU) but that are IN-UNIVERSE. OOU would be considered behind-the-scenes and we'd be only including anything which comes from an in-universe perspective. --Victory93 talk to me 05:20, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

This isn't about a deletion rationale, this is about in-universe material featured in a reference source. A reference work can be a source of information about an in-universe subject and can expand about it which hasn't been revealed in a narrative. It's possible dividing single works into parts that are valid sources and parts that aren't. For example, the content of a book might be in-universe however an author's note or a behind the scenes section would be out of universe. If you look at the The Gallifrey Chronicles (illustrated guide), it features a detailed history about Gallifrey which is IN-UNIVERSE whilst the publisher's summary on the back of the book is OUT-OF-UNIVERSE.
Using this official page here as an example: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/characters/The_Silence

"The Silence are a terrifying race who invaded Earth at an undetermined point in our history. They have powers of telepathy and can kill using a deadly discharge from their hands. But every Silent has a far eerier ability...

Even if you see a Silent, you won't know you've spotted it as Silence somehow edit themselves from an observer's memory. Glimpse one of these creatures and you may feel slightly unsettled the moment it's out of view, but you won't remember anything about it. If and when you next see a Silent you may have a flashback to your first encounter, but again, when the Silent is out of view your mind will not recall ever seeing the alien.

The Silence were defeated when the Doctor ensured the world saw footage of a Silent apparently ordering people to attack them on sight. This 'command' acted like a post-hypnotic suggestion and humans finally turned on the aliens."

This is in-universe reference.
Whilst this news article:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_110928_01/Doctor_Who_Confidential_The_Finale
is out-of-universe reference.
The Monster Files series which is presented by Captain Jack is obviously an IN-UNIVERSE reference source but there is no narrative to it.
This map here of Skaro featured in the The Dalek Pocketbook and Space Travellers Guide: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/File:The_Dalography_of_Skaro.jpg
It is in-universe material however it appears in a reference source but there is no narrative to it.

This map of Leadworth from The Brilliant Book 2011: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/File:Map_of_Leadworth.jpg
It is in-universe material found in a reference source but there is no narrative to it.

Now do you see what I'm trying to explain to you? The quality of how something is explained, whether good or bad shouldn't be considered a factor, only whether it's explained from an in-universe perspective is what matters. We don't need to create a list on material which we consider good much like how we don't need a list on how each episode is considered good or bad from a fan's point of view.

I mean would it count if the reference was read by Captain Jack, then would it be considered in-universe? It would be Out of universe if it were read by John Barrowmen.

If you watch this video from the video game Wolverine's Revenge as an example of in-universe referencing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3dmm4yBeVY
It is deatils about the character read from the point of view of Charles Xavier. There is no narrative here but it explains a part of the universe from an in-universe perspective which you should know there is no real person named Wolverine, much like how we know there is no such planet called Gallifrey in the real world.

This wiki itself is a great example. This article about the Doctor:
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Doctor
Is a reference source from an in-universe perspective would you not agree? (apart from the behind-the-scenes section at the bottom)

Whilst this article about the documentary Dalekmania:
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Dalekmania_(documentary)
Is a reference source from an out-of-universe perspective, not to mention the documentary itself is an out-of-universe perspective.

Oh, hey, Czech! Glad to hear from you! Sorry about the little misunderstanding regarding the "Chat malfunction". At least I know now. I kind of thought you were snubbing me there for a while, and I don't exactly take kindly to... snubbage. I'll try to "keep my cool" from now on (so long as you don't keep saying all fanfics suck ;-) )

Which brings me back to the reason I sent you a text in the first place: a way to tell Daleks apart by colour without forcing them to "Taste the rainbow." Well, who says they have to be brightly coloured? I mean, in the Dalek civil war, the "Imperial" Daleks were white, whereas the renegades were dark grey. So, eventually, aan inGENious idea began to form in my amazing brain, and I finally came up with a new Dalek chain of command, listed below:

Drone = Bronze (obviously)

"Special Weapons" = Dark Grey

Strategist/ Technician = Silver- grey

Emperor = Black and Gold (kind of like that old 1965 movie "Dr. Who and the Daleks")

Actually, when designing the Dalek Emperor, I took an element from every bit of Who media, canonical and otherwise. It's sort of like the Dalek leader from "DWATD", Dalek Sec (no, NOT Mr. Squishy-tentacles, the other one), and even that horrible shiny gumball machine from the TV21 comics. You see, this is a parallel universe version of the Dalek Empire (hey, they did it with the Cybermen, so why not Daleks?), so I have a whole empty field to work with.

Anyway, if

Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1?edit source

Hello!

I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.

So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?

To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes.

…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. Pages using duplicate arguments in template callsedit source

Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. Chubby Potato 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Something oddedit source

I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, I don't know either. NightmareofEden 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Re: Master discussionedit source

Re: Discussions useedit source

Right right, I see!

But thanks for the explanation, all the same! Scrooge MacDuck 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Re: DWMedit source

Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?

To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.
Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Hm.
I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.
(For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Incidentally, this is unrelated to the above matter, but I am still waiting on you for that Slack invite, unless you already sent it and my spam folder ate it up. Millennia's blue hairedit source

Thank you! ~@starryeyedgazer June 6th, 2021

Manarchy banedit source

Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fixedit source

Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).

Re: Some of your recent changes and proposalsedit source

The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.

The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.

Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now.

I hope that you are now feeling better on the medical front. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 07:41, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Something else that I've just remembered about my use of Fandomdesktop.css is that I wrote a lot of it when Oasis was still the primary skin and I didn't want anything I was writing for FandomDesktop to have side effects on Oasis. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 07:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I'm glad you're back and I hope you're feeling better now. I know you're still fixing up the tech and visual stuff, but I just wanted to let you know that MediaWiki:Anonnotice was oddly displaying a portion of an infobox which I determined to be from Popidius Celsinus. I hadn't even been on that page. It only happens sometimes but it's very strange. Chubby Potato 05:02, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

Temporary forumsedit source

Hey, hope you've been alright with the (gestures around toward the abstract) everything lately. This is actually a message from multiple admin (myself, user:OncomingStorm12th and user:Scrooge MacDuck), though it is me writing this. (Don't worry too much about it.)

So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up temporary forums, so we can still get the essential discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at Tardis talk:Temporary forums, where others have chimed in (including user:Tangerineduel, who also thinks it's a good idea).

Creatures who hold Time in this universe together broken. Time is beginning to run wild. Could really harm the Tardis. So I made a short-term repair.

Tardis:Temporary forums would be the Hub, with

1. Links to these six spaces;
2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);

This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on)[1].

The thing is, we just wanted to make sure you weren't just about to hit that big friendly button before proceeding. No point in all this, after all, if there won't be time enough for round one before the next stage of forum evolution's upon us again. We were thinking about opening the temporary forums on the Sunday after next, around Doctor Who time[2] That'd be Sunday Jan 23rd, 19:30 UTC. Unless you think you'll have the Newest Forums up and running by then?

Happy New Year, by the way!
× SOTO (//) 21:19, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

 1. It will also make sure these will be non-trivial discussions for us to pass over. To be added to the list, a new proposal needs to meet two criteria: It must... 1: be actionable (within the three week time limit, it should be possible to hash out), 2: affect a large number of pages.
 2. Which is to say, around the time we'd start the page for a new episode of Doctor Who. Bottom of the hour, as you once explained to me.
Perfectly alright! I'm in no rush personally, but the community's been calling for things to move forward again. (Obviously, no extra steps would be better.) Glad to hear you're doing well. It's been a while.
× SOTO (//) 03:34, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Late reply, but all good! Glad to see it's being worked on. We'll hold off for now if that's the case, don't worry.

Off-topic megathread for discussionsedit source

GaganTopia 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

: Name a list of wikis I have been banned on and when I was banned on them. And my actions on other wikis should not impact how I am on this one, as I've done nothing wrong here, it's not fair, and I do make edits when I see pages to be edited. GaganTopia 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Talk page number... thingsedit source

The number displayed on the talk page "thingy" on pages seems to be off currently - possible because of a recent Fandom update, so I thought you were the best person to ask. It seems to display "1" for a while after more messages have been added, which certainly throws me off, as I've used this number to confirm if I've received a response in the past. Do you have any clue what could have caused this? (2 screenshots are displayed below for illustrative purposes)

Another issueedit source

Navigation templates, or "navboxes", also have an issue - they're open by default & cannot be collapsed.

There is no legitimate reason to remove the image gallery from the Pilot Episode's article.edit source

I looked up the image rules, and there is no rule stating that only articles of valid stories can have image galleries. People will want to see the changes between the pilot and the broadcast. ApertureEmployee427 23:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Personal informationedit source

Hey, how have you been? User:Najawin recently alerted me over personal/potentially doxxing information being added to one of our pages recently by an anonymous user. Since then, I've protected the page so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it (which thankfully stopped the info being added again), but Najawin further contacted me pointing out that we should probably delete said revisions from the page (which I don't believe is something I am able to do.

Would you mind helping out on this? OncomingStorm12th 18:41, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Just to note, for the technical bit of this getting done, the first edit to add potentially doxxing information was on 26 May 2022‎, and more information was added over time. Nobody noticed it aside from an IP user until this past September when I was checking some old conversations I had and links in them. I promptly removed the info, but someone then added it back. Clearing out the original May edit and all since then is probably the way to go. Najawin 06:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Forums discussionedit source

Hey, I know you've been busy, but I wanted to let you know that in light of the two year anniversary of the forums being down a good deal of the active editors have been having a discussion over at Forum talk:Index. We'd love for you to read it over and join the conversation when you have the time. Najawin 20:06, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Template:Wales crew updatesedit source

I wonder if you might be willing to put me in touch with SOTO, take a look at it yourself, or point me in the direction of someone else who could help? If it's an option, I would love to be able to edit the template myself instead of endlessly bothering busy admins. Again, I'm very sorry to contact you out of the blue about something you used to maintain ten years ago! Starkidsoph 23:45, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

User rights nominationedit source

Hi CzechOut, long time no chat! I'm sure you saw my nomination of Bongolium500 for adminship, but just want to do due diligence and let you know just in case. I'll also take the chance to thank you for your attention to Forum talk:Index – very much looking forward to the fresh start, and very appreciative of your stopping by to take us over the finish line despite the busy time of year :) – n8 () 18:54, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Happy Thanksgiving! It's now been a little over one week since Bongo's nomination discussion began, so we'd be ready for you to weigh in. By the way, any update or new ETA for the forums? – n8 ()

Bongolium 500edit source

Hi Czechout I know I am in the wrong place however for some reason I am unable to comment on the user rights page but long story short i absolutely and wholeheartedly support bongolium 500 in becoming a admin, I know I haven't really contributed anything yet but this is because I am currently trying to learn the rules and how to include the source of my information but I will hopefully be contributing at some point as not only am I a huge doctor who fan but I sometimes work on doctor who as a stunt performer!!!, Anyway I support Bongolium 500 because as a newcomer to contributing on this wikia he is invaluable for the technical stuff in the form of creating new templates I plan to use his help with templates when I hopefully start contributing. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ser0slug (talk • contribs) .

Happy new yearedit source

I Know 2023 isn't here yet, though as I'm near the last day til New Year's Eve, happy new year. User:Sum41Champ

Temporary Forums Are Live!edit source

Hello!

Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

Re: Forumsedit source

Hi. I've accepted your friend request. Having the Forum namespace back in action is certainly going to be very helpful. Bongo50 05:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Heads up about the thanks extensionedit source

Hi. I just wanted to give you a heads up that Tardis is testing the "thanks" extension which Fandom will be rolling out to all wikis soon. This extension allows editors to thank other editors for their edits. The editor being thanked will then recieve a notification. Therefore, while you're actively performing edits, you may receieve a few more notifications than normal. If you notice any bugs, pass them onto User:Spongebob456. Bongo50 19:56, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

Why don't you use your bot anymore?edit source

It hasn't made any edits since september 2020. Sliderhostmimic 18:12, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Request to correct a mistakeedit source

Hi CzechOut I am fairly new to contributing to this fandom but I contribute to another regularly, anyway I have accidentally linked to a category that doesn't exist, I intended to link to the category UNIT United Kingdom however I have accidentally confused myself and created UNIT UK, please can you try and rectify my mistake on my behalf as I know I can't do it without being a admin (I'm a admin on another fandom, so I have inside knowledge of being a admin)

'Which Way Out?' short storyedit source

Hello, I have been looking for a certain Doctor Who story for a long time. I mean 'Which Way Out?' from TV Comic Holiday Special 1976. It's hard to find any information about this story, but I did find that you wrote an article about it on the TARDIS Wiki, so I assume you've read it. I was wondering if you might still have access to this story? I will be very grateful for your answer.
