MI5, sometimes misspelled as M15, was a branch of the British government's intelligence division. As they had their own operatives, it was unusual for them to call other organisations for help.
History[[edit]]
20th century[[edit]]
Major Wheatley worked for MI5 during World War II. He became concerned for Winston Churchill's mental health after he saw a large black dog on an evening walk. He later arrested the Tenth Doctor as a Nazi spy. (AUDIO: Hounded)
In 1964, MI5 believed that the new Prime Minister Harold Wilson was a Soviet spy. (AUDIO: State of Emergency)
In an account dated to January 1965, MI5 agent Captain Blacker was aboard his yacht, where he held the plans to a nuclear device, as well as a report regarding the Daleks (TV: The Man from MI.5) and their attempted invasion of Solturis (COMIC: The Penta Ray Factor) as well as Hans Werger's testimony about the "fierce gun battle" in Germany (TV: The Man from MI.5) caused by Mr Steelman, (COMIC: The Return of Mr. Steelman) indicating some knowledge of these top secret events.
During this cruise, he planned to rendezvous with fellow agent Jimmy Bondson off the coast of Monte Carlo. Before this could happen, however, Carl, the leader of a gang, snuck aboard and shot him 5 times with a Henrietta .45 Supermatic, stole the device's plans, and escaped, leaving an explosive to destroy the yacht. This occurred within view of the ship being driven by MI5 agents Tesland and Jimmy Bondson, the latter of whom donned diving equipment to search the wrecked ship, as they believed he could still have been alive. At the bottom, he found Blacker's corpse and no sign of the nuclear device plans.
As a result, Bondson contacted International Rescue, who were initially sceptical of the call as MI5 had their own operatives, although through a meeting between Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward and Bondson in the Forest of Digne, they decided to help the agent recover the plans. After a successful operation, they recovered the plans, and Lady Penelope returned them to Bondson in the Forest of Digne, before driving away. (TV: The Man from MI.5)
Other sources dated the activities of International Rescue to the 1990s, (PROSE: The Dying Days) the 2060s, (PROSE: Titan Declares War! et al.) and the 2080s. (PROSE: Captain Scarlet in Death Crash! et al.)
In the 1970s, the Security Service was one of the agencies which had its funding reduced by the British government. (PROSE: Where the Heart Is)
Veronica Halliwell was the head of MI5 in 1997. She was ordered to shut down a publishing company which had released an exposé on UNIT. (PROSE: The Dying Days) The following year, Halliwell was assassinated by the Voracians. Her death was investigated by Harry Sullivan, now Deputy Director of the organisation. Michael Hanson, the acting director, had been modified into a cyborg by the Voracians to serve as their agent. (PROSE: System Shock) In 1999, Harry Sullivan still remained in the organisation. (PROSE: Millennium Shock)
21st century[[edit]]
On 26 March 2005, Yvonne Hartman, the leader of Torchwood One, told the Cardiff councillor Helen Evans that she was a member of M15. (AUDIO: One Rule)
Sophie Collins, a representative of MI5, she spoke at the 4th annual conference on Threat Containment and Response at the UNIT Liaison on 26 June 2005. (PROSE: UNIT Conferences)
In 2006, Margaret Blaine, whom Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen killed and used as a bodysuit, was a member of MI5. (TV: Aliens of London)
When the 456 contacted the British government again in September 2009, Floor 13 of Thames House, served as the location of a 456 ambassador transported to Earth for negotiations. (TV: Children of Earth: Day Four) When Jack Harkness announced that humanity would fight, the ambassador released a virus into the air of Thames House, now hermetically sealed electronically so that the virus could not escape. Many, if not all, of MI5 in the building died from the virus. (TV: Children of Earth: Day Five)
In October 2009, after the destruction of the Torchwood Hub, the director of MI5 met with other department heads to discuss how to handle the situation. MI6 and MI5 were exploring the possible buyers for the alien technology gathered from the Hub. (PROSE: Long Time Dead)
In 2023, when a dangerous rift appeared on Tower Bridge, police and MI5 forces were deployed to guard the perimeter and prevent civilians from accessing or witnessing the anomaly. P.R.O.B.E. were then called in to investigate. (AUDIO: Guardian At The Gate)
