The Doctor (particularly in his seventh incarnation) occasionally used Smithwood Manor on Allen Road in Kent as a base of operations. It was often referred to simply as "the house on Allen Road" by the Doctor's companions.

Bernice Summerfield briefly visited the house to pick up money, a ration book, and identity papers on 6 March, 1941. One wardrobe was full of fur coats, and a shoebox full of electrical equipment included a gold brooch and a belt; otherwise, the house was empty of clothes.
