Hartnell episodes
Hello!

Related to what you said earlier about stories sharing the same name as William Hartnell-era episodes, there's The Roof of the World (the redirect to the episode) and The Roof of the World (audio story). Little confused about what action to take here, though I'm guessing the current state's non-standard. - 01:59, December 9, 2011 (UTC)
I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.

Similarly, The Traitors and The Traitors (short story). -- Tybort (talk page) 11:57, December 9, 2011 (UTC)
DiSoRiEnTeD1 and I agreed on few things, and a mere glance at his talk page will show that he was sometimes unruly or even disruptive. Nevertheless, I never had cause to ascribe any malice to him until today; he merely came across as rash and inexperienced. DiSoRiEnTeD1 had, a little while ago, come to believe there was some sort of admin conspiracy against hims, and User:OncomingStorm12th, User:SOTO and myself had agreed that it was best to give him strong warnings, but not block him, so as to prove him wrong on this point and show him we were not some cabal itching for an excuse to ban him.

Disambiguating and redirects
He had scarcely shown his face (well, his default user avatar) since then, however. And if he has now left us so definitively… well, I think I and several other users (from OS12th to his frequent talk-page sparring partner User:Najawin) may be owed some closure on the subject of DiSoRiEnTeD1. Najawin, for example, had scruples on the talk page I mentioned earlier, because, for all that he often went overboard in defense of it, DiSoRiEnTeD1 was the main and most steadfast supports of positions opposite to Najawin's (or to mine) in many discussions. Which puts us all in the somewhat awkward position of "winning" by default, without the opposition getting to have a say at the conclusion.

fallen angel should be at either Fallen Angel or Fallen angel. As there's a pre-existing page, moving it myself just makes an error message. -- Tybort (talk page) 15:51, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?

250px
To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes.

I spent about twenty minutes reading the piece you posted to my talk page, an hour thinking about it. Then I went back and reread it, making notes. I'm sure you realize that you asked direct questions, betrayed unspoken assumptions and raised questions without intending to. The matters involve include issues of philosophy, good writing, possibly outdated wiki policy and the question about whether one size fits all -- there are few people here who know how to use a semi-colon and among those who do, there is a tendency to overuse them. Should they, therefore, be outlawed in these pages? That's a question that will underline almost all of this long reply. You may view it as presumptive of me to say everyone else is wrong and I alone am right. Nonetless, that is what I am going to do here, as if I were to say no one should use a semi-colon but me. You're going to say "no" as a matter of public policy and I understand. Nonetheless, I still assert it. While I make my case -- perhaps my Apologia before you order me to drink that tasty hemlock, I ask you to understand that I have written what appears below with a self-aware twinkle in my eye.

Let's start with the general and head towards the specific: the larger the piece, the more tightly it should be edited. Looking at, say, the page on The Doctor, we see it is 45,000 bytes and has probably twenty articles hanging from it, including his name, his age, each incarnation, his scarf...it's huge. Adding more words and pictures should be done only when absolutely neessary. Pictures should be chosen on grounds of utility and aesthetics; happily, we've got a bunch of pictures of him. Them. Whatever. A bunch to choose from. Articles of similar size and importance (I note without comment that the article on Jack Harkness is close to 80,000 bytes; I won't more than mention that I recently chopped out of the page on Amy Pond the remarable fact that she once dropped an ice cream) should be treated with similar circumspection. This is one of my peeves about the article on River Song, about half the length (in part, I immodestly state, because I go through it two or three times a week to trim it). The triptych at the top is good and the shot of her from The Big Bang saying "Yes!" is excellent, but the others are awful, badly composed, shot too dark and with regeneration energy obscuring. We've got enough good pictures of her that we don't need bad ones.
…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 23:28, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

When you examine the tiny articles, however, you are confronted with the opposite problem. We know there are no small parts, only short ones, but when all we know of a particular actor is that he was, say, a Greek in The Myth Makers, is it too much to put a picture of him on the page? What if the only picture I can locate without copyright issues is the one of him on the character page? Yes, I would like a head shot in civvies, but that's all there is. No one is going to bother going back oto the other page, and adding a picture to an article that is 500 bytes is not going to strain anyone's attention span.
Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls
From these extreme cases, I derive a general rule of good writing: long articles should be edited to the bone. Short articles should be granted some leeway so the subject can warn people to stand aside, this one takes big steps.
Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing :Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. When the edit completed a big message appeared about "change propagation" and the "job queue". I don't know enough about the code of MediaWiki to know what this really means, or if it will affect anything, but seeing as it appears important and you control the technical aspects of the wiki, I thought you should know. I hope it didn't mess up anything... Chubby Potato <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Unhappily for you as an administrator, these decisions require judgment, and consensus, two commodities always in short supply and almost invariably opposed to each other. You hanker for hard rules nd bright lines so you don't annoy people by showing favoritism. I don't envy you the responsibility. I, on the other hand, do have judgment and have used it for forty years in making a living by saying the consensus is wrong. While I regret the headaches it will cause you, consensus must be revisted at least occasionally lest the sins of the fathers be visited on the sons..... and more frequently if my judgment says they are wrong. A single photo of an actor in costume in his one DWU role makes the article better than it was without it.Boblipton talk to me 20:01, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
Something odd
I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, I don't know either.  NightmareofEden <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Right right, I see!

Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of not holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that your own quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought you had changed your mind about this. I have no particular wish that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought you were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.

I disagree with them. Boblipton talk to me 21:33, December 12, 2011 (UTC)

Re: DWM
Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?

To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
:Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.

I understand your issues. I have agreed to abide by the rules you have imposed. Boblipton talk to me 22:51, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
:Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
::Hm. I suppose I see what you mean — and I certainly see the sense in maintaining good relations with DWM. I do have to question the wisdom of such a hard rule as "wishes of the copyright holder always trump fair use": what if Big Finish came out and asked us not to host any images of their covers at all, or something of the kind? I could see a publisher of DWU fiction making that kind of pronouncement, albeit not necessarily the Beeb themselves. I can't imagine we could comply with that kind of blanket ban, and still remain a halfway useful Wiki. If they threaten legal action that is another thing, but a mere wish should not paralyse a whole fandom so.

::I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.

::(For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Scrooge MacDuck <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 23:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

They are too simplistic and too rigid. They do not permit me to make judgments and rather than read them carefully and regularly and do the extra work involved in making the decision each time as to whether a particular image falls inside or outside the narrow bright line of what is permitted, it's easier, more productive and less frustrating to avoid adding the pictures. It may seem to you that I see a picture, I add it on. Not true. I decide about a third of the time not to include a picture because it doesn't meet my standards. It's hard enough for me to work out what I think is right, let alone what a doen strangers thought was right three years ago. I believe the time I have to work around here is better served otherwise. == More confusion over what series this belongs to. ==
Millennia's blue hair
Are the stories collected in Wildthyme on Top Big Finish Iris Wildthyme audios? New Worlds stories? Both at once? -- Tybort (talk page) 22:55, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
I already made a forum post about this, but maybe this is better. Where did the information on Millennia's blue hair come from? It's been bugging many of us in the Deca fandom for quite some time. I see the edit on that was made in August of 2011, while the page itself was made in 2009. Many people have read through Divided Loyalties, even going as far as to specifically search for "blue hair," and have turned up empty. Was this just some fan thing that everyone agreed upon? Thank you!

Painting out speech bubbles
Manarchy ban
Do we have a policy on this? Is it okay to "photoshop" an image a little bit to paint out speech bubbles to give us a usable image? Or is it better to leave the image 'as presented originally'? --Tangerineduel / talk 14:42, December 15, 2011 (UTC)

:Righty, that all makes sense.
Hello. You might not remember me but my account is called Manarchy. I'm currently using a VPN to talk to you and i wanted to talk about my ban. It's been a couple of years since i even visited this wikia and I realised that I had grown more mature as the years went by. If it is possible, is there any way you could unban my account? I apologise for my actions as a young teenager and promise that I will be more mature on this site. If it is impossible, then i'm just glad to wrap things up with this wikia.

Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fix
Preload
Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).
I see unable to add any template from the preload option at the side of the page. I click on a red link, go to the preload drop down, select character and nothing happens. Is there any reason why this is and how to fix it? MM/<small>Want to talk?</small> 18:25, December 16, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Some of your recent changes and proposals
Hello. I noticed you reverted my edits on Template:Doctor Who Wiki/Comics because they linked to non-existent pages. I can understand why people would have a problem with that, but surely there is more cause to create these pages - at least as stubs - than to link the page to old stories. The section is called "Latest Comics" and thus it is misleading for it to display old comics. The preceding comment was made by Bigredrabbit (talk to me) 23:20, December 17, 2011 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your detailed breakdown. There are a few things that I would like to rebut, protest and clarify. The stuff in Fandomdesktop.css was only ever intended to be temporary. It was just a collection of fixes to apply over the top of existing CSS. I had plans to write some better, more permanent CSS but this was impractical due to the fact that I can't edit these CSS pages and so had to use my off-wiki contact with Scrooge MacDuck and OncomingStorm12th to get the CSS implemented. Therefore, I deemed the method I used to be most ideal as it's better to have something that works, even if it's not perfect, then nothing at all.

Stubs
The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.
I have, and I will hold my hands up to say I made a mistake. However, I not happy with the policy and will raise a forum discussion at some point in the future. They are important sections and if empty - especially if both are empty, the page should be made a stub. ==Unregistered user edit issue==
The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.
When you've got a moment could you take a look at IP user's talk page; User_talk:41.132.228.79. It looks to be a Wiki-specific issue, though I'm not really sure what. We've got other IP/anon users so it can't be something affecting all anon users.

His edit summaries to the UNIT dating controversy article at first made me think he was a vandal, but [it looks like something as a result of him editing. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:58, December 19, 2011 (UTC)
My understanding of SMW was that, if a wiki has it enabled, it is fine for that wiki to use it. Certainly, I've spoken a fair bit with users on the Fandom Discord server about it and I was never told not to use it. While I do prefer Cargo, SMW is very useful and I feel it should be used to it's fullest potential. Moreover, it's already used heavily in templates such as wales crew and Speedy rename so surely a few more wouldn't hurt. Also, the template being developed in that sandbox was not to automate prefixes but rather to add more detail to citations. This would be a massive burden to have to type manually.

:Nope. I never use the visual editor.
Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now.
:But it must by the IP editor who is using the visual editor that's causing the problems. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:58, December 19, 2011 (UTC)

Basically, six slots would be open for new discussions (we actually have a list of priorities going). In the spirit of Doctor Who: Flux, rather like the Mouri in the Temple of Atropos, all forum discussion passes through these spaces (beyond the scope of talk pages). When one closes, its spot will be opened for another to take its place.

When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.

This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on).

Off-topic megathread for discussions
Uncategorised images
So I’ve seen a few wikis with off-topic megathreads (Jurassic Park wiki being one example, with the “Chaos Zone”), which are basically discussions threads where users can post whatever they want that is not related to the subject of the wiki (in this case, posts unrelated to Doctor Who) in the replies to that thread. We could put it in the FANDOM posts category, so it’s easier to find, and we can tell users about it whenever a discussion is or goes off-topic. Maybe we could call it “The Void” too, as it is technically outside of “the universe of the wiki”, as the void was outside the universe of Doctor Who. What do you think about this idea? GaganTopia <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
We have a fairly high number of uncategorised images. Since we will most likely have a large amount of images upload over the festive period (mainly images from the new special, as well as from new users who stick around). I'm wondering if you want to ran the bot through the uncategorised images and just delete them or if it would be best to add the licence tags to them.

I'm thinking this is best down before the 25th/26th, since that is the most likely time images will be added and deleteing the uncategorised ones now will save time in the future. == REF books. ==
Hi Czechout
I know I am in the wrong place however for some reason I am unable to comment on the user rights page but long story short i absolutely and wholeheartedly support bongolium 500 in becoming a admin, I know I haven't really contributed anything yet but this is because I am currently trying to learn the rules and how to include the source of my information but I will hopefully be contributing at some point as not only am I a huge doctor who fan but I sometimes work on doctor who as a stunt performer!!!, Anyway I support Bongolium 500 because as a newcomer to contributing on this wikia he is invaluable for the technical stuff in the form of creating new templates I plan to use his help with templates when I hopefully start contributing. Ser0slug

I have read over Forum:The Unspecified Cyberman Debate, and noticed your argument about how REF books shouldn't be counted as canon, because they are written from an out of Universe perspective. 100% agree with you, but I have but one REF book that I think is an exception to this rule.
Happy new year
I'm sure you know of it, it's a little infamous book called Doctor Who: Cybermen. This was my first Doctor Who book, interestingly enough, and I am know it VERY well. You see, the thing about the book is, it's cut into three sections. Section one is called CONCEPT: Cyberman as idea. The second is  called Archive: a history of the cyber race and the third is called Program: the Cybermen on TV.
I Know 2023 isn't here yet, though as I'm near the last day til New Year's Eve, happy new year. User:Sum41Champ

Now the first section goes into how the idea for The Tenth Planet and the original Cybermen came about. It looks at the growing popularity of robotics in England that lead to such an idea. The third section goes into the writing, casting, and filming of the episodes that went on air, along with looking at comics, possible future Cybermen (that would inspire Real Time (webcast)), and also looking at an unproduced Fifth Doctor story entitled Genesis of the Cybermen.

Now I know what your thinking, dosent sound very "in-Universe," right? Well, it's the middle section that goes as the afore mentioned "exception."
Temporary Forums Are Live!
Hello!

The second section, entitled Archive: a history of the Cyber race. It is, in fact, written in an "in-Universe" fashion. It presents itself as a human (likely in the future) investigating files from "the great Arc Hives" involving Cybermen. It goes through the existing episodes in chronological order, starting at The Invasion and ending at The Five Doctors, AKA document (0). It never references episode names, rather giving nick names to each case, such as "First Invasion of Earth (Document1)", as apposed to leading it "The Invasion." It never references actors, casting, shooting, or designing, but instead goes through the entire book as if the Cybermen were real, the hole time staying in the character of this human going through "CyberDocuments." It makes a final note at the end (in the 1989 edition that I have) that a new CyberDocument has been discoverd and is being analysed, and that it suggests a shocking further reach of the Cybermen's grasp on the galaxy, obviously referencing the yet-to-air story Silver Nemesis in an in-Universe fashion.
Just wanted to notify you that, User:CzechOut's final deadline of "by New Year's Day" having passed, and following in-depth discussion between myself and fellow admins User:SOTO, User:OncomingStorm12th and User:Bongolium500, we have decided to activate Tardis:Temporary forums, come what may. A sitenotice has been set to inform the community of this development, and I am taking it upon myself to personally update our Administrators on the situation, as well as User:Spongebob456.

So to conclude, this book is written from pages 31 to 84 in an in-Universe fashion, and thus should be counted as canon. All other pages should go as most REF rules do, but the middle section, in my opinion, should be counted as just another novel, as it is written in an in-Universe fashion. Sorry to write the novel on your talk page, I hope to hear from you soon! OS25 (talk to me.) 08:17, December 28, 2011 (UTC)
As the name implies, we hope the Temporary Forums will remain — well — temporary. Any work on reactivating proper DPL Forums will still be welcome and appreciated; this system is a further fine-tuning of the setup Bongolium500 had proposed in December 2021, which it means is designed from the ground up to be easy to transfer into the actual DPL Forums if we should get those back in the near future after all.

Infobox mentions
But it has been multiple years since the Wiki has had a venue for changing policy and forming community consensus on important matters. Bongolium500 and SOTO put forward the first draft of the Temporary Forums a full year ago — and were convinced to retract it by a promise that the real Forums would come ‘very soon’; and here we are. I don't think anyone's at fault, least of all you; it is clear that you've had the Wiki's best interests at heart all through this. But the fact is thatthe time has come to realise that this overly-optimistic strategy of endlessly putting off an imperfect temporary solution in pursuit of a perfect one "soon"… has failed, resoundingly. It is time for a different approach. The Tardis community are owed a different approach.

Hi :)
We four elementals behind the Temporary Forums would like to reassure the rest of the admin team that this necessary step is not intended to create more work for them unbidden. Four are, if it comes to that, plenty enough to keep the peace a Forum with no more than six threads running at a time; we would be thrilled to see the rest of the team embracing the Temporary Forums, but please don't feel any obligation to do so.

Just wondering, in an Infobox Character, the "mentions" section doesn't seem to show. Do you think you could fix this. Thanks Layton4 talk to me 11:25, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

my apologies for leaving what should be a private message here
Please accept my apologies for leaving what probably should be a private message here. I think it inappropriate for you to ask Tybort something like "Why do you object to this when boblipton isn't opposed?" I can't tell if I am being presented as some sort of crazy bad example, some higher authority or a bizarre hybrid of the two, but in any case, please stop. I despise appeals to authority -- whether to elevate or to prevent the huts from sinking into the swamp. Tybort is not a troll, he is one of the people who like to fill out the details in which I have no competence, and if he thought deleting those pages was a good idea, then he had good reasons. Perhaps they were not sufficient reasons for you. but I resent being used as a bludgeon to whack them out of him. I turned down your offer to make me staff -- and aren't you glad now?! -- because I did not wish this arbitrary sort of authority. In the future, if you wish to bludgeon someone trying to be helpful out of actually thinking, please do it in your own name, not mine. In the meantime, since this is being posted on your talk page because of a lack of a useful way of sending you a private message, please feel free to delete it. I know it's contrary to wiki policy, but I don't care. Boblipton talk to me 02:26, December 31, 2011 (UTC)

commas
About eighty percent of the problem of discussing English grammar is that the language used is actuall meant to discuss Latin or Greek. It must be forty years since I've heard the term apositive referring to anything but blood typing. While I appreciate your issues -- and you will notice that in my comments to Mitch, I told him I would give him time to think about this until the normal course of random edits made me hit this particular example again. I appreciate the occasional useful tip I get and thought he might appreciate this one.

I can see why you encourage people to use commas when they are in doubt, but I am not in doubt. Certainly, I spend a lot of time correcing errors that are too subtle for many of the contributors to grok:not just the difference between  subordinate clauses and defining clauses which may or may not require a comma, but the difference between a comma and a period. Subtlety is a relative matter, of course, but this is not a subtle matter to me, any more than all those edits in which I cut the pointless linking clauses. Probably I will get around to the issue in the course of one of my rants, but this is well down the list of gross errors.  Or maybe I'll just link to youtube and Victor Borge's skit on phonetic punctuation.

In the meantime, perhaps you can help me with a subtle error that I cn't seem to overcome:  I have been trying to put IMDB links into actors and crew using the  template.  I keep getting the 404 message.  Perhaps you can clarify what, if any steps, I am missing. Whatever happened to DiSoRiEnTeD1?edit source

Hello!

I know you have bigger fish to fry at present, and I am also sorry to begin your new talk page on such a glum note, but — User:Najawin has just alerted me, on a talk page, to your recent blocking of User:DiSoRiEnTeD1 for sockpuppetry.

So, after all that, and because your blocking-summary was rather vague (and you did not, or at least have not yet, posted a more fully written-out rationale on his talk page)… my question is just — what happened? What precisely did he do? When? Where?

To be clear, I am not asking for any kind of reduction to his ban, or questioning your decision; if he did indeed break T:SOCK, there is nothing more to be said on the matter in terms of his actual punishment. My questions are just that — curiosity. And perhaps a hint of sadness that it came to this, after all the tiresome drama and the accusations and the reassurances. DiSoRiEnTeD1, at least until this sockpuppetry business, was never a troll, and is owed, perhaps, a little respect as he goes.

…But as I led with, all these rather nebulous feelings of mine are nothing urgent, and I know you have other things on your plate. Get to this when it's convenient for you, and don't hurry yourself on my account! The UCP, home page and so on are clearly more pressing uses of your limited time. Pages using duplicate arguments in template callsedit source

Hello. I know you've been busy but this looks possibly important so I wanted to let you know. After seeing Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, I created the page with an explanation as to what it was, as there was some confusion. Chubby Potato 09:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Something oddedit source

I have been noticing a recent surge of either multiple IP users or one user with a fluctuating IP creating some truly bizarre spam pages consisting of pure nonsense and usually being horribly garbled copies of existing valid maintenance pages. Also exhibiting some similar behaviour and overlap of interests to some earlier vandals coming over here from some truly strange wiki apparently about old people of all things to insert ageist remarks into pages about Peter Capaldi and sexist one into pages about Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, I don't know either. NightmareofEden 12:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Re: Discussions useedit source

Right right, I see!

Well, honestly — I agree with you, on the usefulness of not holding policy-making threads in Discussions! It's just that your own quite detailed post seemed to me like a Forum post, and so I thought you had changed your mind about this. I have no particular wish that we do this now, so long as it is agreed that we do it later; I genuinely thought you were the one who wanted it handled in Discussions, there.

But thanks for the explanation, all the same! Scrooge MacDuck 22:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Re: DWMedit source

Just saw your message at User talk:LegoK9: …what's going on, here? Since when do copyright-holders ring us up and ask us not to include an image on the Wiki? What about fair use and all that? So long as we are reproducing the images for a documentary purpose, there isn't supposed to be much they can say — is there?

To be clear I assume you have a good reason, but I'm wondering about what kind of a weird precedent this is setting, and how it should be applied in future. Scrooge MacDuck 19:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Well, yes — but here I can't see how we could possibly be talking about questions of privacy. These are not candid images of private individuals, found in a derelict corner of the web and unfairly signal-booted. These are images that are even now widely reproduced in Doctor Who Magazine. DWM is widely sold among Who fans — and more widely read, perhaps, than our own Wiki.
Furthermore they are not images of a real person, but publicity shots of the Doctor. If DWM asked us not to reproduce a particular publicity shot of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, would we be forced to delete it to "protect Capaldi's privacy"? Scrooge MacDuck 23:06, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Hm.
I am speaking in general terms, though. The point is well-taken that in this case we have other publicity shots of that Doctor, from that year, in that outfit. It is not at all essential that we retain this particular one on the Wiki, so we might as well keep DWM happy.
(For the record I have seen a comparable case on another Wiki on which I am an admin; but that case involved a picture of a real person, not a 50-year-old publicity shot of a character; and furthermore it was not a picture readily available to the whole of the fandom in a magazine.) Incidentally, this is unrelated to the above matter, but I am still waiting on you for that Slack invite, unless you already sent it and my spam folder ate it up. Millennia's blue hairedit source

Thank you! ~@starryeyedgazer June 6th, 2021

Manarchy banedit source

Overall Century layout + Century timeline template fixedit source

Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this wiki, though I do currently own Eminem Wiki, so I have used the Wikitext language before, though I am certain there's a few things I'd need to learn. I've attempted to understand (and fix, though I haven't made any changes permanent) through the creation and usage of the template Template:TimelineRevised and (originally) Template:Order of Centuries (which should be deleted), with no success. I noticed that (ex. 1st century) the listed centuries are duplicated in the list (as the categories themselves as well as the pages for the individual centuries are listed).

Re: Some of your recent changes and proposalsedit source

The background was not added by me but rather SOTO. I believe the reason it was done through CSS was because it was more complex then a single image but I'm not entirely sure.

The issue with screenreaders is to do with collapsibles and I'm sorry to admit that I rolled out a set of templates into the theory namespace a few days ago. I'm not sure how you may want to proceed here.

Tooltips was a route I was considering a long time ago but I haven't been for a while now.

I hope that you are now feeling better on the medical front. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 07:41, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Something else that I've just remembered about my use of Fandomdesktop.css is that I wrote a lot of it when Oasis was still the primary skin and I didn't want anything I was writing for FandomDesktop to have side effects on Oasis. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 07:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

I hadn't even been on that page. It only happens sometimes but it's very strange. Chubby Potato 05:02, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

So while you're been busy working on the new forums for the UCP, with the return to the actual Forum namespace no doubt around the corner, a number of users have suggested we set up temporary forums, so we can still get the essential discussions out of the way, in the meantime. We think this is a good idea. We've actually been developing a discussion at Tardis talk:Temporary forums, where others have chimed in (including user:Tangerineduel, who also thinks it's a good idea).

Creatures who hold Time in this universe together broken. Time is beginning to run wild. Could really harm the Tardis. So I made a short-term repair.

Tardis:Temporary forums would be the Hub, with

1. Links to these six spaces;
2: A list of future discussions ("Next Up", agreed to on the talk page);
3. An archive section (with table format, showing resolves/unresolved, and a quick summary of the closing remarks).

All in one place. This will help with moving things over to the Actual Forums. And there will be a strict time limit on these discussions: three weeks until closing time. When this time is up, if a discussion has not reached a conclusion, it'll be closed as unresolved (marked yellow in the table), and taken to the bottom of the list, to be revived later.

This is all to make sure we get the maximum gain (actual resolution) out of a small number of discussions at any one time (to ease the load, creating a smoother transition, with only a small number of pages to move over into the New Forums, later on)[1].

The thing is, we just wanted to make sure you weren't just about to hit that big friendly button before proceeding. No point in all this, after all, if there won't be time enough for round one before the next stage of forum evolution's upon us again. We were thinking about opening the temporary forums on the Sunday after next, around Doctor Who time[2] That'd be Sunday Jan 23rd, 19:30 UTC. Unless you think you'll have the Newest Forums up and running by then?

Happy New Year, by the way!

 1. It will also make sure these will be non-trivial discussions for us to pass over. To be added to the list, a new proposal needs to meet two criteria: It must... 1: be actionable (within the three week time limit, it should be possible to hash out), 2: affect a large number of pages.
 2. Which is to say, around the time we'd start the page for a new episode of Doctor Who. Bottom of the hour, as you once explained to me.
Perfectly alright! I'm in no rush personally, but the community's been calling for things to move forward again. (Obviously, no extra steps would be better.) Glad to hear you're doing well. It's been a while.

Late reply, but all good! Glad to see it's being worked on. We'll hold off for now if that's the case, don't worry.

Off-topic megathread for discussionsedit source

GaganTopia 20:41, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

: Name a list of wikis I have been banned on and when I was banned on them. And my actions on other wikis should not impact how I am on this one, as I've done nothing wrong here, it's not fair, and I do make edits when I see pages to be edited. GaganTopia 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Talk page number... thingsedit source

The number displayed on the talk page "thingy" on pages seems to be off currently - possible because of a recent Fandom update, so I thought you were the best person to ask. It seems to display "1" for a while after more messages have been added, which certainly throws me off, as I've used this number to confirm if I've received a response in the past. Do you have any clue what could have caused this? (2 screenshots are displayed below for illustrative purposes)

Another issueedit source

Navigation templates, or "navboxes", also have an issue - they're open by default & cannot be collapsed.

There is no legitimate reason to remove the image gallery from the Pilot Episode's article.edit source

I looked up the image rules, and there is no rule stating that only articles of valid stories can have image galleries. People will want to see the changes between the pilot and the broadcast. ApertureEmployee427 23:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Personal informationedit source

Hey, how have you been? User:Najawin recently alerted me over personal/potentially doxxing information being added to one of our pages recently by an anonymous user. Since then, I've protected the page so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it (which thankfully stopped the info being added again), but Najawin further contacted me pointing out that we should probably delete said revisions from the page (which I don't believe is something I am able to do.

Would you mind helping out on this? OncomingStorm12th 18:41, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Just to note, for the technical bit of this getting done, the first edit to add potentially doxxing information was on 26 May 2022‎, and more information was added over time. Nobody noticed it aside from an IP user until this past September when I was checking some old conversations I had and links in them. I promptly removed the info, but someone then added it back. Clearing out the original May edit and all since then is probably the way to go. Najawin 06:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Forums discussionedit source

Hey, I know you've been busy, but I wanted to let you know that in light of the two year anniversary of the forums being down a good deal of the active editors have been having a discussion over at Forum talk:Index. We'd love for you to read it over and join the conversation when you have the time. Najawin 20:06, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Template:Wales crew updatesedit source

Hi! Terribly sorry to bother you, but for about a year now I've been, I think, the main person filling in the "Wales crew" template for new episodes (starting with The Halloween Apocalypse, although the one for Revolution of the Daleks is also mostly my work), and I've been logging the new variables they need added over at Template talk:Wales crew.

I gather that User:SOTO has been basically in charge of the template for some time now, but after a very courteous initial reply I haven't received any more communication from them and the template appears unchanged – understandable as they're very busy! I also tried leaving a message on their talk page a few months ago, but no dice... which is why I'm here, as from the talk page it looks like you used to deal with that template.

I wonder if you might be willing to put me in touch with SOTO, take a look at it yourself, or point me in the direction of someone else who could help? If it's an option, I would love to be able to edit the template myself instead of endlessly bothering busy admins. Again, I'm very sorry to contact you out of the blue about something you used to maintain ten years ago! Starkidsoph 23:45, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

User rights nominationedit source

Hi CzechOut, long time no chat! I'm sure you saw my nomination of Bongolium500 for adminship, but just want to do due diligence and let you know just in case. I'll also take the chance to thank you for your attention to Forum talk:Index – very much looking forward to the fresh start, and very appreciative of your stopping by to take us over the finish line despite the busy time of year :) – n8 () 18:54, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Happy Thanksgiving! It's now been a little over one week since Bongo's nomination discussion began, so we'd be ready for you to weigh in. By the way, any update or new ETA for the forums? – n8 ()

Bongolium 500edit source

Hi Czechout I know I am in the wrong place however for some reason I am unable to comment on the user rights page but long story short i absolutely and wholeheartedly support bongolium 500 in becoming a admin, I know I haven't really contributed anything yet but this is because I am currently trying to learn the rules and how to include the source of my information but I will hopefully be contributing at some point as not only am I a huge doctor who fan but I sometimes work on doctor who as a stunt performer!!!, Anyway I support Bongolium 500 because as a newcomer to contributing on this wikia he is invaluable for the technical stuff in the form of creating new templates I plan to use his help with templates when I hopefully start contributing. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ser0slug (talk • contribs) .

Happy new yearedit source

I Know 2023 isn't here yet, though as I'm near the last day til New Year's Eve, happy new year. User:Sum41Champ

Temporary Forums Are Live!edit source

Hello!

Happy New Year, happy editing — and happy contribution to the New Forums!

Re: Forumsedit source

Hi. I've accepted your friend request. Having the Forum namespace back in action is certainly going to be very helpful. Bongo50 05:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Heads up about the thanks extensionedit source

Hi. I just wanted to give you a heads up that Tardis is testing the "thanks" extension which Fandom will be rolling out to all wikis soon. This extension allows editors to thank other editors for their edits. The editor being thanked will then recieve a notification. Therefore, while you're actively performing edits, you may receieve a few more notifications than normal. If you notice any bugs, pass them onto User:Spongebob456. Bongo50 19:56, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

Why don't you use your bot anymore?edit source

It hasn't made any edits since september 2020. Sliderhostmimic 18:12, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Request to correct a mistakeedit source

Hi CzechOut I am fairly new to contributing to this fandom but I contribute to another regularly, anyway I have accidentally linked to a category that doesn't exist, I intended to link to the category UNIT United Kingdom however I have accidentally confused myself and created UNIT UK, please can you try and rectify my mistake on my behalf as I know I can't do it without being a admin (I'm a admin on another fandom, so I have inside knowledge of being a admin)

'Which Way Out?' short storyedit source

Hello, I have been looking for a certain Doctor Who story for a long time. I mean 'Which Way Out?' from TV Comic Holiday Special 1976. It's hard to find any information about this story, but I did find that you wrote an article about it on the TARDIS Wiki, so I assume you've read it. I was wondering if you might still have access to this story? I will be very grateful for your answer.
